Hello everyone! Nice win today. Baseball is a strange game. You think the Braves would lose to Nats, and they win two. Glad to see the Braves win. Good series, and much need ed one.
Hi ward. the bad news is that the Nats pretty much gave us both of those wins
the good news is, who would have expected them to play that poorly against us?
All, talk tomorrow, and Braves are due for a Nats Sweep. Time to take care of buisness, and beat the crap out of them. Peace my friends, and “Go!!!!!Braves!!!!!
MIKE MINOR….Have the pen ready, this could be a tight game. Although after the past two, there should be a laugher in there somewhere. Maybe some kryptonite for GONZALEZ and WARD rules…..we get the sweep.
DOB – Great blog on Medlen…but it begs the question “How come Frank & Fredi could not see this” perhaps the Braves would be vying for the division title instead of the wild card had Medlen been starting the whole season. Medlen’s greatness may never had been realized if not for an injury or 2 to others.

Don’t really care whether it’s by accident or design, I’ll take MEDLEN right now, every time out. If all the pitchers had his attitude combined with his ability, the other guys would perk up. When KRIS is on the bump, the whole team is high on MEDS. HEH!
The other guy’s I see with that will to win on the mound for the BRAVES are TIM HUDSON and BRANDON BEACHY. DELGADO maybe.
We were lucky to win yesterday. And the will to win?
HANSON gets the start, and it’s KEYSTONE KOPS out there in the field not the least of which was TOMMY himself. Even after the second, we were dropping flies and balls at the plate. I’m a believer in the energy exuded by the starting pitcher catching on with the entire club.
I would think that after the past two games anyone who wants to could see the difference attitude makes in a club.
Great game yesterday! Wow, i didn’t think the highlight of my sports day would’ve been the Braves game, but they beat the Nat’s twice in a row! The UT-FL game was garbage last night. Thought this was going to be our year to break the losing streak, but oh, well. I’m really dreading when UT comes to play “between the hedges.”
It was good to see the Braves win in a playoff-style environment, and against an elite team. They’ve found ways to win the last two days, and it’s refreshing. Maybe, just maybe, this team’s really going to get hot down the stretch and into the playoffs.
Two great (if bizarre) one run wins against the Nats, gaining ground on almost everyone we need to gain ground on and the overnight conversation is about if Arkansas is bad or not? Seriously? After last weeks fiasco, 52-0, even against Bama, is bad. Really, really bad.
Disgusted,
I’ve always regarded Richt as a good stand-up guy. He’s battled through a lot of adversity, and I’m glad for his sake he’s got a really good winning program. Wasn’t too long ago that everyone in Athens was calling for his head.
Great W by the Dawgs — they are not BUMBS anymore. You will never hear me call them BUMBS again.
Hah! Just wait til the 2nd half to start watching, the Dawgs have struggled in the 1st half all 3 games.

Never had any sympathy for Petrino after what he did to Atlanta. I have sympathy for the Arkansas program after what he did to them this year, though.
@TOBF at 10:36 p,m, That pretty much sums up the way most metro Atlantans feel about Bobby Pincchio.
In a roundabout way, I do think Petrino did us a favor walking away from the Falcons — as it turned out we would up smelling like a rose getting Coach Mike Smith. I know he was classless, but so what, Petrino only messed up the Falcons brand for one yr and we have not had a losing seson since.
We have never had it so good under Mike Smith and Matty Ice.
@USNAVYOF ATL —- I agree with that 9:07 post — cannot be said any better about Coach R.
I usually just clown around when the team is losing but I am a Coach Richt fan — best coach we had and if he does win a Nat Championship he is in Coach Dooley territory. It still may happen, but LSU and Bama are a wall of steel, iron and anything else of strength that is immovable.
I have to give credit to Tommy for settling down after that second inning, but he still has to find a way to go more than 5 to be the pticher we hoped he would be.
Maybe being a mid rotation SP is the best he can do — I will lay off him for a while — they guy does try though he seems like he could be in a tad better shape. Just looks a little fat and does not move off the mound as well as the average pitcher.
Disgusted,
I wouldn’t say Petrino “walked” away, more like “ran.” And some folks in Knoxville want Dooley fired, and replaced with said runaway coach. Hilarious.
Lew,
good point. Without actually having seen that game, my guess is Arkansas’ defense probably spent about 80% of the time on the field, and just got flat-out worn out.
Disgusted,
Brewers were hot at home, too… I don’t know, but it seems like lately the Braves ran into teams as they were getting hot. On a side note, I listened to the games on XM, and it was good to hear good ol’ Uecker on the radio.
navyvol- If they had their starting QB, Bama still would have score 52 points
A better QB for Arkansas would give poorer field position for Bama. 28 points resulted in the 4 drives that started in Arkansas territory, including one on 3 and one on the 6.
Not saying it would’ve made the difference, but it wouldn’t have been as big of a blowout, and probably not a shutout.
Heck, even the fish are starting to worry me. They knocked around the Nats staff in DC like a bunch of rag dolls, and they’re playing the Reds tough, too.
Woulda coulda shoulda. How many times have we heard here that injuries are no excuse? It was still a reallybad game any way you spin it. And I’d say exactly the same if it were the Dawgs – just like I did last year when they sucked at the beginning of the season.
What? Take the division? Definitely possible. Making up 5.5 games in 15, especially when the Nats have all playoff hopefuls (Dodgers, Brewers, Phillies, Cardinals) is doable.
I wasn’t trying to make excuses for Arkansas, but when you’re playing against a Semi-Pro powerhouse without your starting QB, it sure doesn’t help things.
Couldn’t write that script any better, especially after how last season ended.
Man, I never thought about that. Going from blowing a big lead at the end of the season to making up a big lead and taking the division. That’d be something
If the Braves play well the last sixteen, all will come right at the end. Either the Nats fold like a pile of laundry and the Braves win the division, or the Nats bow up and a weaker team wins the second WC.

Zack Greinke with another strong outing last night for the Angels – 8.1 IP, 5 hits, 1 ER, 2 BB’s, 3 K’s.
In 10 starts as an Angel, Greinke has the following line: 69 IP, 62 hits, 29 ER, 9 HR allowed, 22/54 BB/K ratio, 3.78 ERA.
In his last 5 starts: 37 IP, 24 hits, 7 ER, 9 BB’s, 26 K’s, 4 HR, 1.70 ERA, .185/.236/.308 oppo. slash line.

Bottom line is that we were not good enough vs the Brewers in that series but were good enough in this one.
That is how it goes. I’ll take it.

Lew,

My feeling on Petrino is because his successor has been so so much better, it was a blessing that he was only around for one sorry yr.
In my book, the Falcons history was born in 2008. That is how long it took for us to have a real football team and real history to fall back on.
Before that it was losing with a few temporary 5 hour energy drinks that did not last.

Heck, even the fish are starting to worry me. They knocked around the Nats staff in DC like a bunch of rag dolls, and they’re playing the Reds tough, too.

Disgusted,
Didn’t Reeves get them to a SB in ‘97? Why doesn’t that count?

Woulda coulda shoulda. How many times have we heard here that injuries are no excuse? It was still a reallybad game any way you spin it. And I’d say exactly the same if it were the Dawgs – just like I did last year when they sucked at the beginning of the season.

So, maybe, just maybe, if the Braves sweep the Nats today, dare we speak the unspeakable?

Lew,
are you an Arkansas fan?

What? Take the division? Definitely possible. Making up 5.5 games in 15, especially when the Nats have all playoff hopefuls (Dodgers, Brewers, Phillies, Cardinals) is doable.

I wasn’t trying to make excuses for Arkansas, but when you’re playing against a Semi-Pro powerhouse without your starting QB, it sure doesn’t help things.

jeffrey d,
you just spoke it…which means you jinxed us. JK.

A sweep might just send the gNats into a spiral…. kinda like that sweep to the Cardinals last year.
