McCann is day to day with tendinitis – updated

Brian McCann left Saturday’s game with tendinitis in the area on the inside of his right knee where the hamstring muscle attaches to tendons. He is day-to-day.

“We’re going to go day to day, hopefully Monday or Tuesday he could crank it up again,” Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said.

McCann caught for two innings and grounded out in his only at-bat before being replaced by David Ross in the top of the third inning.

“I tweaked it on the road trip a little bit, but it didn’t affect me to do anything,” McCann said. “Then today I was having a really hard time squatting.”

McCann said he would receive treatment Sunday and see where he is.

He has also battled shoulder problems this season, receiving two cortisone shots for a cyst and frayed labrum since Aug. 7.

Or he could play and worsen the injury. Smart to pull him if he’s got a hammy issue. Those can be nagging. Need to get him healthy before he plays. Maybe he won’t be 100%, but if you get an injury, I agree with immediately sitting him because you don’t know how bad it is.

Anyone who has ever played sports, has probably had a pulled hamstring and knows the worst thing you can do is play on it. Rest it. Let it heal. Then play. It’s not like Ross hurts the team when he plays, anyway.

A cause for concern, since a hamstring issue can compromise Brian’s speed and athleticism. Pssshh

Being first and bragging about it shows a complete lack of focus.

Chipper has again played in more games than McCann who is 15(?) years his junior. And people knock Chipper for always being injured……

Let’s see Boscan start tomorrow and give Rossy some rest. Dude may surprise you and with Simmons back and Chipper starting they afford to do it and bring in Rossy late if the need to PH for him.

McCann is really hurting. I know it is frustrating, imagine how he feels as an elite catcher that really needs his offense. The dude is not dogging it, he is just beaten up.

I had a severe case of that injury for several years on the left leg, and it has taken that long to be able to run without pain again. And I am 38 years older than McCann. Better to rest it right now.

So? He is doing nothing for the Braves. Reminds who of last year?

Catching is the most physical demanding position in baseball. I look at it as a 2 man job. The body just will not hold up catching the number of games Mac has caught over the years. Unfortunately Mac is beginning to make Chipper look like an iron-man. But it is September so spray some windex on it and get better in the offseason.

No problem. Let him rest until February.

Makes me start to wonder if the Braves will accept their $12M option ($500K buy-out if they do not accept the option) on McCann next year. He may have surgery on his shoulder in the off-season, and I think the decision on whether to retain McCann must be made within 5 days of the end of the World Series. So, there may be significnt risk in accepting that option. Maybe instead the Braves try and sign McCann to a long-term contract instead of agreeing to the option year. A contract with perhaps a lower base salary but an excalator for games played.

Do not pick up the option or pick it up and trade him.

It makes sense to rest Mac now. The Braves have a very small chance of winning the division, but a very good chance of winning a wild card spot. Why take the chance of worsening his injury for these games so that he is unable to play in the post-season?

Sit him down for the rest of the year and let him get everything that is bothering him fixed.

Hope the Braves part ways with Mac. He is on the decline and will hold this team hostage with injuries like Chipper has past five years.

Whilst I tend to agree with the feeling that BB players are hothouse flowers the McCann injury is on a different level. Hamstrings are not to be taken lightly and maybe the Braves would do better to rest him for the remainder of the regular season and hope he’ll be needed and fully fit for the playoffs? He would be a great loss to Atlanta and they shouldn’t push it……

Better see what Chipper thinks about McCann, since he will be player manager next year.
