Just a day off for Bourn, with good matchup of Johnson vs. Detwiler.

Fredi plans to use the remaining days off to rest a couple of guys like he’s doing with Bourn (and McCann) today.

Simmons was fine when he tested his foot during BP and infield drills

What is the sence of resting players when you are playing the division leaders you are trying to catch? Resting them for WHAT? The WINTER? FREDI MUST GO if he does not win tthe best of five series.

Okay the hopes of Braves Country rest on your low to the ground shoulders, Meldeen. Don’t screw it up

Whoa Meds!

What a day for Medlen to be less than sharp. Hanging pitches, not finding the strike zone, behind in counts. That aint Medlen. Pair that with no offense and this could get ugly.

Hope he can settle down before any damage is done.

I’m not going to “dis” Chipper, he’s a first round (better be) HOFer, but he has to know that the pitcher is the one in trouble. Grounding out weakly to 2nd on the first pitch means he wasn’t looking for a pitch he was just swinging. Freddie is a perennial first pitch swinger and the best thing he can do is hit it foul. Look for a pitch, know the pitcher is in trouble, if you get what you are looking for then drive it somewhere. Not a weak ground and a weak pop out.

Freeman trying to ambush all the time is kind of silly. He’s so young and wil get better, but still. Just because CJ swings at the fist pitch a lot doesn’t mean you have to. He’s Chipper. He’s done things few have ever or will ever do.

Medlen should start the WC game, no question about it. He’s the closest thing the Braves have to a shut-down pitcher right now.

Huddy is a big-game guy, but he’s been hit and miss, hurt and kinda hurt. Maholm, nah. Hanson, no way! Minor? Meh, no.

Gotta go with Medlen. Screw Hudson’s ego, if they don’t win that game, that’s the season.

McCann and Ross both have 1 HR for every 20.4 AB, Ross is batting 266 vs Mc”s 230, Ross is 3rd on the team in SLG behind Chipper and Heyward. My point is why the love affair with McCann, why isn’t Ross our starting catcher, he is much better on defense, and has a much better arm. Dont pick up McCann’s option, let him go and put that $13mil toward some real offense next year.

this is why you rest Bourn:

The speedy center fielder hit .177 (14-for-79) with one extra-base hit, five runs and a .495 on-base-plus-slugging percentage in his past 22 games before Friday…Reed Johnson in the lineup against Nationals starter Ross Detwiler. Johnson was 5-for-9 with a homer against the left-hander before Friday, while Bourn was 1-for-13.

Braves are lucky they didn’t get Heyward and/or Fredi tossed on that play. Similar to Bryce Harper play in Miami couple weeks ago, when he slammed helmet and it went in general direction of first-base ump, who overreacted and tossed Harper in game when he already had two homers.

I don’t buy that Ross could produce every day, but posting career numbers isn’t a very good argument. Henry Aaron had great career numbers but I doubt he would hit .100 today.

About time to do something drastic, out of the box, out of the ordinary, like bunt two or three batters in a row to see what happens. Nothing else is working. In fact, I would have bunted both CJ and FF in that first inning the way it’s been going. Would not have been any worse than it was. Just doing the same ol’ tired thing ain’t workin no mo. Small ball, manufacture a run or two, anyway, anyhow. Swinging for the fences is not a way of life.
