With the braves extra slow lineup, Milwaukee’s infield was playing so deep it looked like they were playing seven outfielder’s.

make sure the one-gamer is between two teams that are inferior to other playoff teams.

The Braves have an extra slow lineup? Bourn, Prado, Heyward, Simmons? I know Jones, Freeman, McCann and Uggla aren’t the fastest guys in the world, but I think it balances itself out.

ncscoots, it doesn’t take power rankings to realize the Rays or Yankees are better than the Tigers or White Sox, yet the Tigers and White Sox are going to be in a better position than the Rays or Yankees to win the AL Pennant and the World Series.

Even folks who didn’t play high school ball can realize that, OMG and UKUGA. ;)

The Braves have named right-hander J.R. Graham their minor league pitcher of the year and outfielder Todd Cunningham their minor league player of the year.

Cunningham had a heck of a year. indeed. I still have trouble finding anyone that sees more than a 4th outfielder, though.

The Braves minor league pitchers and players of the year at each level were (respectively): Cory Gearrin, Ernesto Mejia (Triple-A Gwinnett); Sean Gilmartin, Joe Leonard (Double-A Mississippi); Gus Schlosser, Nick Ahmed (high-A Lynchburg); Navery Moore, William Beckwith (low-A Rome), Mauricio Cabrera, Carlos Franco (rookie Danville), Luis Merejo, Jose Peraza (rookie Gulf Coast League), and Michael Flores, Johan Camargo (Dominican Summer League).

I love that name – Gus Schlosser.

Basically which team would win more over 162 games, if they played similar-quality schedules.

If the Rays or Yankees played a schedule similar to that of the White Sox or Tigers and the Rays or Yankees were in the AL Central, based on all the information we have at our disposal, the Rays or Yankees would win the Central more easily than the White Sox or Tigers.

Very true that the ratings for say the World Series are down from where they were 25 years ago. However, you need to look at the cume for all the playoff games to really understand how the game is marketed to the masses

Since they were going to let Soriano walk anyway, what’s it matter what they did or didn’t get for him?

So again: Move the goalposts much? “Budding SuperStar” is now “on the way up?” And, why are you posting his TB season, when the discussion was the trade from Atlanta? How is that pertinent? No mention of his injured-again, mediocre age-31 season?

Soriano accepted Arbitration and we got stuck with a huge salary. So we had to trade him to whatever team was willing to take on all of his salary. We hoped he’d reject arbitration and sign with someone else and then we’d get a draft pick.

Shaun make good sence in his 4:35 post. The playoff system in baseball is contrived, there are to many divisions, problem is a team that has a better record than a division winner might have to play the silly one game play-in game. Seems MLB wants to make thier playoffs as close to NFL playoff system. I would like to see each league go back to east, west division, winners meet, then those winners go to WS. If there must be four teams in playoffs in each league, west winner could play second place team in east and east winner could play second place team in west and continue from there.

George_George -

Well, MLB is going to fix that for you. Within a few years they will do away with the “play in” and replace it with a couple of brand new teams to form 4 divisions with 4 teams each in each league. They have not decided yet how greedy to get with wild cards, runner ups, also rans, etc. but you can be sure they will have at least 16 division winners in to start. Who knows, if the Republicans get back in the White House and fix the economy MLB might figure we’d go for all division winners and and all runner ups and start the party with 32 teams.

McLouth had a torn abdomen, which for some reason yet to be explained, the Braves let him play with. He has surgery, works his azz off in recovery, then gets back into the condition a pro athlete should be in. And you’re surprised he is doing good.
