“So, there are people here who think a runner should always hold up at 2nd on a single towards the right field line?”
If it actually is to the right field line, heck no, go to third, but if it is pretty much directly to the right fielder then yes you hold up, especially with the 3-4 hitters coming up.
Rather he would have made it but it took a perfect throw to get him. Ball was hit behind Teeen so he is doing what the 3rd base coach calls for there.
I’m old school – Never make the 1st or 3rd out at 3rd but in that spot and with it being the second out I would have brought him to third also. Of course, the way it turned out, I’d gotten him thrown out too!
“So, there are people here who think a runner should always hold up at 2nd on a single towards the right field line?”
Why is this country all about hyperbole? No one says the runner should ALWAYS hold at second in that situation. If he has average speed and the fielder is picking up the ball when the runner hits the bag, he’s probably gonna be meat if he runs. (like Prado) Lets turn it around on you. Suppose a ball is hit down the line and fielded with Brian “piano on his back” McCann running. Should HE always go because the ball was hit down the line?
We need to do some little league “1 and cover” kinda a stuff and show our guys to get to the base to receive throws to make tags on runners rather than having to reach and not make tags. Thats 2 tonight
