Of course, we can always fast track J.R. Graham and see him throw 97-99mph out of a set-up role……

But I’d be very much against that, as I think he should be tried as a starter until he breaks. ;)

DS1 and phil, we should be more concerned with how often a hitter is getting on base and how many total bases plus walks they have and less concerned about how often they make a particular kind of out.

Great minds. ;)

Seriously, I really want to see that kid succeed as a starter. Pocket Rocket. What a nickname. 3 sub-6′0” RHP’s in the rotation? Hah!

For Hurricanes NHL season and playoff tickets…Any games they don’t play (ie lockout games, playoffs that the team never plays)…If paid for, the $$$ is add to my account, to be used for later tickerts….HOWEVER, if I prefer a cash refund, I simply request it, and they refund the $$$.

Some see him as a reliever long term, but that’s just because of his nasty two pitch arsenal. He’ll work fine as a starter and I think they keep him there to start next year. Perhaps even in Gwinnett to start the year. Like I said, our Triple-A rotation is scheduled to be Teheran, Delgado, Gilmartin, Spruill, Graham/Hale….

Of course, there is no way that’s happening as I’m certain one of those guys is going in a trade this winter. No reason for them not to be.

FW needs to pick his trades from the list consisting of Delgado, Spuill, Graham, or Hale. Gilmartin is a ‘nole and needs to stay, and Teheran is our “top” prospect.

Efrim

I’d like em to move Hale to the bullpen. He has a pretty good FB/SL combo. Could work well and play up in the pen. Plus, his ceiling as a starter isn’t very high. He’ll turn 26 in 2013.

seriously, though. there are sooo many relievers on the free agent marketand there will be alot available for trades. o’flarety will be the most expensive arm in the ‘pen next year, and it would be worth trying to see what we could get for him. i bet he could get us a nice outfielder if we put him in the right package.

It would be great if Graham has made it to Atlenta as a starter by 2014…Huddy, Hanson, and Maholm may all be gone. Be nice also to have a power arm, if for no other reason, to shut up the “no one is worth a damn unless they throw 95+” crowd.

Yeah, I know; I’m just messin’ around. They’ll probably trade some young pitching this offseason, anyway, and will need him for starter depth.

I won’t deny it, Teheran and Graham breaking in catchers’ mitts would delight me to no end (assuming they could actually pitch while doing it). And, hopefully, Beachy can get back to 93-94 at some point in his recovery.

It’s not so much wanting Verlander x 5 on the staff, just need some guys who can get it up there better than 90 on a good day.

Beachy’s velocity should return. It would be nice to have another hard throwing righty such as Teheran or graham to go along with Beachy, Medlen, Minor, and Maholm/Gilmartin long term.

keylargo How many guesses would it take to come up with Buckner as having as many hits as Chipper?

chipper doesnt have as many hits as you would think, but its because of his plate discipline. he may be tied with buncker in hits, but he has more than 3 times the number of walks. part of that is his good eye, and part of it is his power. pitchers tend to stay away from him.

Agree. I’m not for giving anyone $20mil, unless our payroll is 105mil. Greinke would sway me, but I’d probably say no. I don’t think Greinke is getting 20mil/yr though. 14-17mil is more likely. He does like us, so maybe we get a little discount…

I also doubt we’re getting Headley… it’ll cost waay too much. The Padres wanna keep that dude, it’s gonna cost a lot to trade for him.

My rationale for Greinke is simple. We need a stud SP, a LF, and a CF. We can’t trade for all those. CF and LF are underwhelming in their FA class outside of Bourn. Same with SP. However, Greinke won’t be as bad an investment as one in Bourn would be.

Also, we desperately need a power LF. It’s gonna take quite a few prospects to get that. Try to get Shields or some other top SP, and we’ve done some damage to the farm. Get Greinke, and we can trade for that LF, and use some “pieces” to get a CF. Seems more efficient to me.

If there are any questions about my position, save them for later please. I’ll be back by 6;30. Peace.
