nolie: when Moylan walked the lefty, I almost had a stroke! Fredi is pretty lucky today, in the midst of a good karma wave. His idiocy leaves much to be desired.
James Shields with another huge game. ERA down to 3.71 in the incredibly difficult American League East. Can’t really think of a better pitcher to go after this offseason than him, if we choose to do so.
And Tommy Hanson being non-tendered and having no trade value is about the most ridiculous notion I’ve heard on here. He’s still a solid pitcher.
Ah, I forgot to see how my boy was doing. Good to see that he’s doing well. My only fear is that now the Angels will try harder to re-sign him. He’d be our 2nd best pitcher right now, cuz Meds has been unconsciously good.
Well, Tommy has had 2 decent starts now… if he keeps it up, maybe we can get Cain for him? Though I really wouldn’t want Cain (injuries). Hanson is still gonna have a worse year than last year, continuing his declining trend. Decent #5 pitcher, at this time.
Uggla was coming back before he got benched… he had a nice little streak going before that.
I’ll take Greinke for 5/85
I would too… would be hesitant to take it to 6 for just over 100, or even 5 for 90, but even those aren’t all too bad. We keep our prospects and get a solid pitcher. I imagine that Greinke will get something in that range, can’t see him being paid over 20mil.
With this lineup, one piece depends on another. If Uggla’s resurgence is truly legit. If McCann’s shoulder can take to cortisone and stay pain free down the stretch. If Heyward & Freeman can respond positively to Uggla’s & McCann’s uptick. If Simmons can start hitting out of the box tomorrow and turn the SS position into a hitting positive. If a Reed/Costanza LF platoon can prove useful. If the LF platoon can allow Prado to spell Chipper at 3B down the stretch in order to keep him fresh and relatively pain-reduced. If Bourn can have a better September than he did last year…
We need to sweep the nationals next week if we are to have any shot at the division. It is a must sweep series for us and ofcourse we can’t lose ground this week to the Nationals. If we go into next Friday down 4.5 and proceed to sweet the Nationals then we would be 1.5 games out with 15 to play.
Man, you know things are going well when there are only 5 pages of comments…

Agree… oh, and btw, the SP that I would like the Braves to sign this offseason, had a few stretches like the one Shields has had, last year. He had 1 good 8 game stretch of dominance, and 2 5-game stretches of dominance (all with better ERAs and similar IPs, oppo. stat lines). Greinke ain’t a bad pitcher y’all. A borderline #1, but a solid #2. We need a pitcher like him next year.
I just gotta say what a HUGE win for my Niners. To go into Lambeau Field and lead from wire to wire against the Packers…doesn’t get much better than that.

You got off to a bad start with CHIPPER in ST, but I must AGREE with the above, you have been excellent with your coverage. I never bothered with twitter till CHIPPER did.
they are good because they can usually outscore everyone. But they can’t run the ball to save their lives (Aaron Rodgers was their leading rusher with 27 yards today- although, in fairness, the Niners had the best rush D last year) and if they play a great D, like the Niners, they have problems because they really can’t stop anyone either

DOB:
I’d just like to say great coverage on Chipper. Excellent angle’s and perspective all season long. Nobody can complain about the lack of coverage given to the Braves icon by the local paper.
It’s been done and done in an extremely professional manner. You’ve brought the fans so close to the action, especially fans who don’t live close to Atlanta but are die hard fans.
This is a significant moment in the history of the organization and you are capturing it perfectly for us all.
Thanks. This is starting to get tough for all long time fans.

PS
I must say Chipper joining twitter his last season has been extremely special for all of the fans as well.
You get another totally different side of Chipper on the TWITTA

You got off to a bad start with CHIPPER in ST, but I must AGREE with the above, you have been excellent with your coverage. I never bothered with twitter till CHIPPER did.

cabravesfan,
Happy for your ‘Niners, except I picked the GB Defense on my fantasy team. BIG FAIL!

….and the Falcons kicker. I have two kickers on my team. Unconventional, but they got me a lot of points this week!

What kind of reception did Chipper get in his final game in NY? Couldn’t watch here in VA.

usnavyvolfaninva-
You really picked Green Bay’s defense? They were not particularly good last year and were not particularly good today…

Yeah, I really didn’t do my homework prior to my draft. Just didn’t have time. I just figured “Hey, it’s Green Bay….they gotta be good…” whooops!

If I had a choice between Grienke & Shields for the off season, I’d take Shields.
The inconsistency and social anxiety stuff on Grienke is a red flag for a mid market team.
And I would not touch Hamilton at all.
Cannot afford an expensive mistake.

I learned my lesson about Green Bay’s defense last year. They totally let me down week after week. Went with the Niners D this year.

usnavyvolfaninva-
they are good because they can usually outscore everyone. But they can’t run the ball to save their lives (Aaron Rodgers was their leading rusher with 27 yards today- although, in fairness, the Niners had the best rush D last year) and if they play a great D, like the Niners, they have problems because they really can’t stop anyone either
