I totally agree Mark. But look around and find other .300BA SS players in the ML.
Simmons in A Ball .293
Simmons MLB .296
Also in basically 1 months worth of work was good enough to get him to 2.4 WAR. 6th on the list of ML SS’s. Which is .4 better than Jeter.
Marlins just scored 3 in the top of the 10th vs. gNats.
September 7th, 201210:39 pm
if we sweep the nats it might mean the winner of the wildcard game plays the reds…
September 7th, 201210:40 pm
Think hes gonna be special for sure
Great to be discussing how good a Brave is gonna be rather than guessing who in the world are we gonna play here or there huh?
Semper Fi Braves Fan – you know you’re talking to the Mark Van Winkle of stats, right?
September 7th, 201210:43 pm
Nats just don’t die… LaRoche doubled to start the inning, Morse drives him in with a single.
Cishek (2.40 ERA) pitching for the Fish
September 7th, 201210:44 pm
I am a googling fool on stats too…
I only get angry when McCann and Hanson’s names are mentioned. Jonny Venters evokes anger on most nights this year too for some reason.
Now a double for Desmond, 2nd and 3rd none out. Gosh Dammit.
September 7th, 201210:45 pm
And apparently it needed to posted thrice… >.<
“Nats just don’t die”
Silver bullet or a wooden stake ought to do the trick.

As posting these words it’s merely the 3rd inning of the Friday night game at Citi Field vs the Met’s. As bad as it pains me to say, the Bravos are far removed from being the Met killer’s they were say even 2-3 years past. Even farther removed is the met-killer of the one-and-only number 10 Chipper. In fact, I am posting these words, a mere seconds after Chipper went down swinging to fan with bases loaded. If Chipper was the Hall of Famer most feel him to be in a big key situation such s this, Chipper should have been able to do no less than get his bat on the ball to hit a sacrifice fly, if not better? Indeed, Chipper seemingly is about as far removed from being a met-killer as the teams who calls Queens New York home is removed from the stadium known as Shea Stadium. While obviously Chipper has left Braves fans with several big life-lasting memories such as two walk off home runs during 2012, it has become even clearer when all is considered Chi;pper has little left to bring to the table, even his past solid defensive process has shown over the past six weeks as several plays which Chipper failed to put a glove on, it’s obvious his reflexes have slowed a bit. Even more obvious is the fact the Braves are not going to catch Washington in the standings, and to be a wild card in 2012 is about like rolling dice, as the odds of winning and advancing on a win one game or out format rests on much more luck that talent, especially when most other teams will send to the bump one dominating ace starting pitcher while the Braves only close to sure thing is Kris Medlin? Indeed, fans of the uniforms with the Tomahawk Chop, as much as it pains me to believe, while the fat lady isn’t singing yet, but she is certainly warming up her vocals, and the man who holds the strings to the curtain hasn’t lowered it yet, but sure is close to dropping the curtain on the 2012 season!
where did this mullethead come from?
I hope the nats tie it up and they play 35 innings tonight…
September 7th, 201210:47 pm
any other people having trouble with their posting since the the new AJC look???? Or is it just my computer, really slow to post
September 7th, 201210:48 pm
not just you monty…
September 7th, 201210:50 pm
That was first 2-extra-base-hit game for Uggla in 78 games, since his 2-homer game at Miami on June 5.
Afterward, he said, “I’m back.”
Loaded bases, 1 out and Bernadina at the plate. These guys sure seem to bring the drama late in the games, much like the 2010 Braves.
September 7th, 201210:51 pm
Siddown, Bernadina! 1 more to go…. unfortunately, that 1 is Werth
I admit I’m old school.
1, 2, 8 hitters OBP with very few Ks – can take pitches and put ball in play with 2 strikes.
3, 4, 5, 6, 7 hit the ball. BA, extra base hits and rbis matter – can;t do that well taking 2-0 FBs. Still fewer Ks the better – I hate Ks
DOB- Asking where he’s been and make him promise to never go there again!
I’ve always had trouble off and on with this silly site, more throuble than every other site I use combined, and that is a lot of sites
Monty, I was having issues.. started using Google Chrome and the issues went away!
September 7th, 201210:52 pm
I’ve been slow to refresh the page.
September 7th, 201210:53 pm
Thanks Fish! Gain a game on those stinkin’ Nats.
there is no stat with as high a correlation to runs scored than team OBP.
September 7th, 201210:54 pm
well guess I’ll just take the nats losing…
alright then maybe it’s not my computer after all
September 7th, 201210:55 pm
Finally, The Braves gained a game.
gNats are like Zombies, they just keep coming
I wish Chrome could fix it for me… that’s what I’m using and it’s slow. Wasn’t slow until they updated the site and have the login system (on other blogs). I’m fast to all other pages.
September 7th, 201210:57 pm
2 years ago the Braves lead the league in OBP, were middle of the pack in Averages. They were middle of the pack in runs scored.
I’m fast to all other pages…TOBF
I am too, much faster, but I always have been. It may be a bit worse for me than it was, but it has always sukked
maybe they’ll work out the bugs
September 7th, 201210:59 pm
Whats your most useless and irrelevent stat? Mine 2 out rbis!
Just means someone else failed to get a hit also to drive in runs, 27 outs in a game – one no more important than another.
September 7th, 201211:00 pm
one season does not a correlation make, and hardly in the middle of the pack, we were fifth.
and if you look you will see that the top 6 scoring teams all had the top 6 OBP, pretty much that way most years. never said it was a linear relationship
So the Braves are 6 out and Strausburg has one start left Monday vs. Mets.
September 7th, 201211:03 pm
when its sleepy time down south…
Uggla shows up, first time in 92 days or so….
Nice game though!!
September 7th, 201211:04 pm
Maybe this will be the night that the BRAVES break out of their funk. How ’bout them Fish!! Finally a BRAVES win and a Gnats loss. Go figure.
If we can sweep the Nats and play real solid the rest of the way, we have a small chance… it’s small, but still there. Gotta play the games to see what happens.
September 7th, 201211:05 pm
Pitching has got to step it up…
3rd in the NL in wins, 4th in MLB
September 7th, 201211:07 pm
Sweep the Nats?
Let’s be somewhat realistic….
Try we get swept instead.
September 7th, 201211:08 pm
Its always sunny in phil….
When you consider what we have had to deal with offensively this year the record is really remarkable.
September 7th, 201211:09 pm
Postgame quotage from Bravos
Optimism? Series is at home…
September 7th, 201211:12 pm
Nats have been playing really solid baseball all year, and they are seemingly getting stronger as the season goes on. Winning the series would be a tall order in itself, but hey we can hope!
September 7th, 201211:13 pm
Haven’t bothered to read all 700-plus posts here so don’t know if it’s already been mentioned, but how cool would it be if the Mets fans were to break out in a CHIP-PER, CHIP-PER, CHIP-PER, etc., chant…you know, instead of the LAR-REE one?
September 7th, 201211:17 pm
Chipper has very poor numbers in Citi, they are prolly sad to see him go now…..
September 7th, 201211:21 pm
pirates made 7 errors…….wow!
the Ghost of Chipper Jones

Yeah, really bad. Why four games back they even allowed six runs, and seven in their last five. Lousy really!
September 8th, 201212:08 am
Internet access at work was awful tonight, so I relied on the phone until the 7th, then had cab record the end for me since my last student did not allow easy following – so I just finished the game, and was relatively pleased…

I hate everyone connected to New York…anyone born there should be dealt with in the most unpleasant way possible…
Except, of course, for me…
September 8th, 201212:34 am
and my family…
September 8th, 201212:35 am

Dodgers fail to score (0-9 RISP – I tried to explain to Vin that’s no big deal), but Giants capitalize on bases loaded situation…
September 8th, 201212:47 am
Posey K with bases loaded – sorry McFann missed that…
September 8th, 201212:48 am

I went to Foley’s (now Chipper’s) Bar to watch the game…all waitresses were using Chipper t-shirts! it was unbelievable…and it has a fantastic baseball memorabilia collection…
September 8th, 20121:06 am
any other good baseball bar in NYC anyone can recommend?
Can you just send me $2000 – $40 = $1960 ?
Save us both a step, make it a little easier. You can even keep $50 if you want. Make it $1950 and we have a deal ?
September 8th, 20121:17 am

Re: 1:00 am…….Yes I eat my soup on the terrace; Usually Campbell’s—hence I named an insect I crossed paths with–Terrace Campbell. Quite the ‘bug’ that little fellow. I got the impression he has visited my neighbors too.

Also: Please add the word Pesos after the numerals, 100–2000. Thanks!

“I always held New York to a higher standard than anyplace else.”
September 8th, 20122:24 am
pretty obvious that ross will go down the stretch.
September 8th, 20122:30 am
September 7th, 2012
That was first 2-extra-base-hit game for Uggla in 78 games, since his 2-homer game at Miami on June 5.
September 8th, 20122:32 am
yeah ,but is upside screams the alternatives.
September 8th, 20122:34 am
Braves players nor fans show the passion of San Fran. Major swagger (maybe more than the Nats) and their fans show up to pester the other teams instead of sitting there quiet getting fatter like Braves fans at Turner. Just saying.
September 8th, 20122:35 am
ross should roll in there every game. i heard the same excuse from macc last season.
‘i rushed back blah, blah.” you don’t have a extra base hit since july.
Here Comes Honey Boo Boo

Hello everyone! Great game, and now 11games to 90 wins………Good to see Uggla hitting, and we could sure use his bat. Don’ tknpw if he’s back, but good to see him get going. Be happyb to see Simmons back too. Could use that wonderful speed.
September 8th, 20122:57 am
Rooting for Brewers to push the Cards back some. Seen enough Cards.
September 8th, 20122:59 am
Just Saying – Keep on just saying, which is meaningless……
September 8th, 20123:01 am
With Simmons, and his great speed, should help the Braves down the stretch, when he gets back. Speed never slumps……

Still have a ways to go, but I’m happy with the pitching, and the timely small ball hitting. Would I like offense yes, but I’m O.K. with the solid pitching for now. All, I’ll talk soon again, but just laying low, and staying calm. Peace my friends, and “Go!!!!!Braves!!!!!”
