I do agree Wren has focused more on pitching and defense and athleticism in terms of drafting. You just think he would have added some solid hitting prospects. Cause when you look at most our top position player prospects the only question mark is will they hit.
Something alarming to me is that for example Todd Cunningham is rated our 13th best prospect, but Keith Law and a good amount of others believe he’s not even a future 4th Outfielder.
Terdo rated our 8th best prospect is also in alot of overhyped prospects list, the 23 year old struggled big time in AAA this season.
We really lack hitting in our system.

Va Braves — We do seem to have a problem with the hitting prospects who for some reason do not do what they are projected to do once they get to the higher level of the minors.
We got lucky with Heyward and Freeman though Freddie did struggle the yr he was in AA.
I don’t know about Terdo and Salcedo — we need to start seeing real results from them.
I am not sure about Cunningham and Lipka. Why can’t ome of these guys grow after they hit the AA level.
Also note that Jordan HGH Schafer turned into a flop upon a fop look how highly rated he was.
And look how disappointing most of those Baby Braves were. Guys like Mc Bride, Boyer, James, Davies, etc, Frenchy and even Kelly Johnson — they turned out to not be so good.
Also mention Joey “Grand Slam” Devine — First round waste of a pick.

I’m not looking to be an ass here but that is remarkably silly comment. This would have been Heap’s first free agent year and he would have busted the Braves butts financially over the last three years, and this one, had he not signed the longterm deal.

I beg to differ. Heap would have been a free agent this year. Teams would have seen the oblique injury as no big deal most likely and if the shoulder problem did not show up on a physical he would have signed a long term deal with someone in the off season.

That would work for the Braves. If Bethancourt is the real deal, he’s likely not in Atlanta until 2015. So, maybe he could caddy for McCann in ‘15.

With only 20 some odd games left, if there is a rain delay they will wait a good while before deciding to postpone it or play a double header tomorrow. This is the last trip to NY this year and you don’t want to have to deal with flying into the city for just one game. So with a 4 PM start, expect a lengthy delay if the weather warrants.

I see what you mean, Bat. Given the way arb negotiations have gone recently, the contract was a bit less than a wash for Brian. That said, I still would not offer the option to him next year. This team has severe hitting issues, and two OF spots must be filled by LEGITIMATE MVP-LIKE hitters, while being weighed down by the albatross that is Uggla.
All of a sudden, I am slightly warming to the notion of an Upton playing CF. Hell, why not both – one in LF and the other in CF.

Simmons will rejoin Braves on Monday, with no restrictions. I’d expect him to play right away, and probably every day.
He’s rehabbing again today for Lynchburg, which starts its second-round playoff series.

Looking at Terdo’s numbers this yr — seems he is more of a line drive type of doubles hitter with maybe fair power. But his HR stroke is not there for now.
Maybe a 15 HR 30 double guy with a respectable OPS but not a stud middle of the lineup guy.
Hope he can do better in AAA in 13. He has maybe two more yrs to make something of himself. If he does not have it by 25 or 26 at the latest, ferget it.

Sheets to throw a sim-game (3 innings worth vs. Braves pinch-hitters) on Monday. Didn’t seem too thrilled at idea. But, hey, they aren’t ready to bump any starter or go back to 6-man rotation. So there’s not other options, since no minor league teams playing except for Class-A playoffs.

@Jeff R , it might make sense for B Mac if he wants to play it conservative and safeguard himself aganst further decline.
Of course the Braves would have to make a respectable offer, I say at least 2 yrs of what Yadir Molina is making. I do not think that he would get a 5 or 6 yr deal right now. His shoulder needs to be fixed.
He could take his time and would not necessarily have to be ready to start 13 if that is what it takes for him to be right.
It depends if Brian wants to gamble with it. If he has down 13, than that will cost him. I would like him around till 15 and we really do not know if Bethancourt can hit. Could be more of a second string defensive C type.

I know we don’t supposed to talk about politics on here, but to be honest I don’t know every little detail about everything. Only thing I know is why would any middle/lower working class person (which is basically the whole country, lol) vote for Romney when he wants to take more money from us? I mean I’ve heard stuff like if Romney is president you can expect to see an average of 30 to 50 bucks less a per paycheck for a week…. To me that alone is enough to not care about any other topics and run the other way. How does taking more money from people who are already living paycheck to paycheck and so on help? I’m only 25 years old and don’t know much about it, only thing I know is that however my money and income is effected is my #1 topic and main concern. Cause honestly it seems no matter what were all screwed in the end. RANT is over. Sorry.

Yea, we really HAVE to exercise the option for Mac and get him healthy and right in the off season & if neede be, beyond April.
I’d rather have a healthy Brian begining in June then a part healthy Brian in April and have him wear down fast. I do not want him back in the lineup for next yr till he is right.
If he is right in ST, then great — but we NEED him HEALTHY. The healthy B Mac is a stud player.

I predict JOE TERDS will be awsome in AAA next season. To his credit, he went down wallowed about a bit, then righted his ship, and hit for high average, albiet sacrificing a little power.

I really see BMac getting healthy and playing well again because if he doesn’t he’ll hang up the spikes. Guys way to competitive and has experienced success too long to go through this type year another year or 2.

Jeff R — That is why if the Braves offered a 2 yr extension in addition to the option, it might make sense to Brian. How much should he be offered, I don;t know depends on negotiation. He is making what about 12 or 13 mil now.
As long as they do not insult him I see it as feasable.
If he has a real rebound 2013 and goes free he will get real $$$$$$$$$$$$ hard to tell with baseball salary inflation. With the new TV money teams are going to be spending. And we will not likely afford to keep him.

Agree… and this is possibly a lose-lose situation for us. If he does poorly again, he isn’t coming back. If he does well, it’s his walk year, and he might test FA. This would make it harder for us to re-sign him.

Remember those three big time prospects…teheran, delgado and vizcaino, all top 100 in the country…and the other power arm named tommy hanson………. and guess what…minor, beachy and medlen came out of no where…they were not flashy, didn’t throw 95 plus…but what a surprise, and they are for real.
you are talking that the braves have the best closer, great relivers, guys that hit for power and wil get better (freeman, heyward, uggla, Mccan) and great profesional hitters like simmons and prado.
sign a big time pitcher… and you might end up with the best roation/group of pitchers in baseball.
And that’s how you win playoff series…like back in the day with 2 or 3 power hitters and 3 or four great pitchers…not even a great closer.

I sure hope it doesn’t get rained out! Tomorrow will be all about Football!!! Which by the way is a fat flipping joke too. Can’t wait to watch all these ref’s who have no business on a NFL field studder and have a field meeting for every flag thrown. Pretty sad, we get to watch the worlds best Football players play football with clowns calling the games. So much for that high standard they set. It’s becoming quite a joke, you can’t hit no one anymore, every week players are getting fined for doing there job description, you can’t touch QBs, There’s no more exciting kick returns, every season they make it harder on the defense by adding new rules and BS…To me the game is headed to 2-hand touch or flag football within 10 years at this pace.
So worried about safety and profits, want viewers and ticket buyers, but don’t wanna fairly pay professional officials who are the best at what they do… Every athlete get’s paid millions and knows the risk in playing the game of football, that’s why you get paid more than any normal person makes in a lifetime in 1 season and so on. Roger Goodell is a complete joke.
