I watch Giants games as much as possible because I really like Kuiper and Krukow.

The energy in that park is off the charts. Last I checked SF is pretty expensive and kids have school.

I read Chipper’s Tweet last night. Telling.

its abour us having so many LHed hitters the last few seasons, many of which are important starters like McCann, Heyward, Freeman, and Bourn none of whom hit lefties as well as righties, nor does Uggla over his career either

We have to face it. We’re just not a great sports town. It has nothing to do with how much the team wins or loses. Atlanta has become a carpetbaggers town. African-Americans don’t attend baseball in large enough numbers for us to draw 35,000-40,000 every night. Pro sports isn’t our entire life in the South like it is in NY, Philly, and Boston. SEC homers rule the South.

The last time the DODGERS drew under two million was in the mid 1970s so tiger’s statement was incorrect.

Braves are middle of the road in attendance — but the PROMOTIONS department along with front office should have recognized the September attendance pattern and addressed, They dropped the ball.

Giants are No. 4 but everyone swims out of the bay onto the field?

No — they come from outlying areas — San Jose, Santa Rosa etc….

Braves’ promotion folks aren’t doing a great job of getting people to come in a pennant race.

the biggest issue with me & going to braves game is the freakin TRAFFIC. i went to the chipper bobble-head night- 2 hours to get there (from Lenox & GA400) and 2 hours to leave (between waiting in the parking lots). city of atlanta is just plain stupid on to use traffic flows when it comes to sporting events. granted, there was a preseason falcons game, but still. they close certain roads or only make them one way. an absolute nightmare driving to turner field. going to a falcons game is a lot easier, especially with marta there.

Bourn on team scoring 1 run, enough for Minor and ‘pen tonight:

“Yeah, sometimes just enough is enough. Mike and Owen and Kimbrel, they held it down for us. We’ve been struggling with runners in scoring position lately, but through a season you have streaks where it happens like that. At the time we’re still getting wins while it’s happening. So when we break out of it, we’ll really be on a roll.”

Chipper, with all due respect, when your team is (not) hitting the way it is, it does not inspire fans during this recession/despression to pony up the dollars to watch the Braves – especially on a week when schools started all over the region. With the exception of Sunday’s theatrics, the team has played uninspired, lackluster, treading-water-while-sharks-circle baseball for the past few weeks. Given the team’s efforts in late August/September the last few seasons, fans have become fatalisitc about team chances, and seem to be waiting for the other shoe (spike?) to drop at some point this month.

For the purists on this forum, what I am about to say will rankle them. While pitching wins more than its fair share, chicks and dudes dig the long ball, mammo’s, etc. They want to see slugging, clutch hits, big rips, and baserunners running around bases like scared jack rabbits. Even Monday, seeing the Braves “blow up” and score six runs on five “meh” hits does nothing to inspire locals to spin the turnstiles.

Four hits today. One run. Only spectacular pitching against a second division team kept the sharks at bay for another September day. However, four hits tells me that there’s blood in the water.

Venice Jim

Looks like 18-11 in 2011 (rough count) – I think we are safe on it not being 28-2…

Though the Rockies have had a pretty bad year, I would hasten to mention that they are a pretty darned good hitting team. Even with the splits in favor of Coors Field, they still have some very capable hitters.

So holding them to 0 runs and 2 hits is still a very good performance from our staff.

Just sayin……
