NO BREAKING BALLS! Dammit!
Nite folks. Gotta lot of work to do.
September 5th, 201210:00 pm
Great pitching…ugly offense – but I’ll take the result…
WTG, Craig!!! Boy, did they need that one!
that is the way to end the ballgame!!!! With the heater.
Minor finally gets the win he has deserved so often
YES! Braves win Kimmeh with a 4-out safe (that’s so wrong). Minor gets the win.
And best of all, we win without having to drive in a run…. Sweet.
not too upset about walking Giambi
So, horrible attendance two nights in a row and the people who were there came a bit close to seeing something few see in person in a lifetime of being a baseball fan!
Hard to win scoring only one run. Impossible to win scoring zero runs! A two-hit shutout and the Braves win 1-0! Minor got one unearned run in support and gave up nothing!
1-0 on an unearned mac dp blown grounder…
We’ll just have to live with it….
Nice job, baby face
Game would have never ended if it weren’t for the gift run. Nevertheless, win is a win is a win.
September 5th, 201210:01 pm
Freddi gets a tip of the cap tonight!
Be nice to score 2 or 3 though and he would not have to resort to what he had to do!
Wow, WHAT A JOB by our pitchers, especially Minor!!
Good job Mike…
winner winner, chicken dinner.
It took 299 games, but Gonzalez FINALLY made a major league managerial move.
September 5th, 201210:02 pm
Attendance has sucked all over the east.
West is different.
School means nothing. It’s culture.
September 5th, 201210:03 pm
A 4 out safe? What the heck?
FIRE FREDI GONZALEZ
Good job…. Fredi? I can’t believe he actually used Kimbrel in the 8th. He did balance it out by going back to Uggla and Mccann. We pick up one on STL. Now we need Tom Layne to dominate LA.
Great job by Fredi tonight, as well.
September 5th, 201210:04 pm
Been an avid baseball fan for over 30 years and I’ve only witnessed no-hitters watching games on TV — two of them Braves games that I watched from the start. Both were Merker’s efforts, the first a combined no-hitter.
Come on, people! Support the team, especially if you live in the Atlanta area.
School means plenty…
Kevin McAlpin @KevinMcAlpin
84 of Craig Kimbrel’s last 133 outs have been recorded via strikeout, including 68 of his last 104. #Braves
September 5th, 201210:05 pm
nice win. good job MIKE, still not much hitting. What is wrong with these guys? I can’t believe they are really this bad.
Replace Minor with Teheran….easy call.
September 5th, 201210:06 pm
Mac should get some love for the win too…. he hit the ball that got thrown away. He was blazing up the line and caused the defender to rush the throw. Actually, that play goes to Fredi for going in fast and hard at 2B.
Mac did make some really important blocks late though.
Can’t wait until tomorrow’s get-away game. I bet that both McCann and Uggla are laying again. Fredi thinks that two games were enough to show he has balls. Way to go Fredi, you really showed everyone what a tough ass you are.
September 5th, 201210:07 pm
Nice win! And here I sit.. still chatting with SONY.
Who’s in charge of waking up the sprinkling of fans who probably got their tix from an office buddy or neighbor? The Braves unlike bars who have drivers for drunks have drivers who have fallen asleep watching whatever you want to call what they just watched. God they are boring once September hits. Shouldn’t use the word hits in a Braves sleepathon.
exactly phil, we can not continue to start a guy who is sooo poor at garnering run support.
almost anybody could do that better than Mike has ….
Dr. Kenneth Noisewater
September 5th, 201210:08 pm
good game by minor. BUT SERIOUSLY????!!!!! 0 runs last night & 1 run tonight??? To quote Green Day: Wake Me Up When September Ends!!!!!!!
Andre looks like flamer.
September 5th, 201210:09 pm
Talking Chop @gondeee
Every batter in Lynchburg’s starting lineup had at least one hit. Starter Gus Schlosser, 8 shutout innings.
Bring up those hitters….
It’s called choking by the offense. The last two weeks they can’t even hit average pitching they are so tight. Man, what will they be like if they actually make the playoffs? Totally frozen at the plate? Won’t even be able to get the bat off their shoulders and then pee pee in their pants?
September 5th, 201210:11 pm
The fans are remembering last SEPT, they are fed up with this team. Hope they will at least turn up at THE TED for CHIPPER’s night.
38,000 in L.A. last night — school does exist everywhere.
It’s culture. Embarrassing. Players notice that.
Yes, nolie….minor sucks the life from the offense. Sad, really.
But seriously, what’s with the bats?
You must mean replace Hanson with Teheran… (though I’d prefer Delgado).
September 5th, 201210:13 pm
Atlanta ain’t LA…..
September 5th, 201210:15 pm
I’m picturing Uggla frozen at the plate with pee running down his leg. Thanks for that visual, Finklestein.
phil — have this discussion with SOMEONE every year. You’re right — Atlanta ain’t LA — only 4.17 million people and they can’t draw 20,000 in a pennant race. OK.
A top high school football game or a demolition derby would draw more. Culture.
Tension still abounds….everyone has the no hit disease…but it counts the same as a 15-0 slugfest.
September 5th, 201210:17 pm
Will the BRAVES be playing thier home games in CHARLOTTE in a couple of seasons? They did leave MIL.
Attendance is about the same as last few years
nah, the Braves have been hot and cold offensively all year. Count it a blessing to win a few while they’re not hitting, and bet that the bats will come around soon.
It’s culture too…i have to agree.
But we’re also boring as hell to watch for most folks. I hear it a lot.
@The A Bomb…….What about a Tractor Pull Event?
Totally frozen at the plate? Won’t even be able to get the bat off their shoulders and then pee pee in their pants?
Well, your post is exaggerated, but the first 4 guys that came to mind were Constanza, Boscan, Hinske, and Juan…. Those guys might be the ones to do that!
September 5th, 201210:18 pm
Nice one from Dale Murphy.
Dale Murphy @DaleMurphy3
Wow… nice win for the #Braves ! What a game by Minor, and closing it out? Well, you know what to do.. http://pic.twitter.com/HCgD6yHF
In Charlotte? If so, i won’t be watching.
Brave New World
September 5th, 201210:19 pm
These days, Minor sucks the life from the other team’s offense as well. GO BRAVES!
September 5th, 201210:20 pm
Good nite all…
What is wrong with Uggla? Seriously. I don’t mean his hitting. What is with that blank, confused stare that he has?
September 5th, 201210:21 pm
Our mighty Braves just mustered 1 unearned run vs the NL’s worst pitching staff and went 0-11 w/RISP. Gonzalez gave up a guaranteed run in the 8th when he had Bourn swing away (another K) vs bunt /Constanza at 3rd and one out. Looks like they have entered their Sept. swoon a little early this year . Even a 2nd wild card spot might not be enough to get these enemic hitters to the postseason. Only the Braves go into a team wide slump at the most crucial time of the year. Unless they start hitting soon, they will forever be regarded at master choke artists.
I don’t blame anyone for not going to games. When I lived in Atlanta, went to maybe 5 a year, just to get a taste. Other than that, it’s too much effort and cash to watch a baseball game. Sorry, it just is. And not that I was broke; but frankly I could find much better ways to blow $200. Add to that the transportation/parking… it amazes me that 3 million go thru the turnstyles every year. More power to ‘em.
@TheOnlyBravesFan……Re: 10:06….I totally agree. Good Post!!!
Time for the Braves to start hitting to match the great pitching.
Guess nobody wants to spend their pennies on the Rockies game. I sure don’t.
I tip my cap to Gonzalez. Record that for posterity.
Finally did something.
September 5th, 201210:24 pm
Mike…we area 2.3m a year attendance…andwehavedrawnmorethan 2m more consecutive years than anyone
September 5th, 201210:25 pm
Attendence tonight just about thwe same as last night, just under 17,000, however way less than half that really there, no one in outfield stands. SAD
This attendance is so much of a pattern that maybe the brilliant ticket office should make weekday games in September half price and food and parking the same to fill the joint.
This has been going on for too many years for the Braves NOT to address this. A seat filled at half price is better than a seat unfilled.

MikeInFl – Kimbrel’s 8th inning. Pitcher’s Pressure Quotient?
Take your time. Dave won’t have the quotes for a couple of minutes.
Young Minor is coming into his own as a very good pitcher. It’s fun to watch.
Kimbrel’s first-ever save of more than 3 outs, only 3rd such appearance. Said it was fun and he’d been wanting to do that all season (enter in eighth)….
Bourn had a Yogi moment, regarding team scoring 1 run: “Sometimes just enough is enough.”
Kevin McAlpin @KevinMcAlpin
Kimbrel: “of course it was fun, I’ve been wanting to do that all year”
Semper Fi Braves Fan
September 5th, 201210:28 pm
I guess the 3 hits between Reed Johnson and Ross were just making the every day starters look bad. Managers can’t have their bench players showing up the multimillionair crybabies on the bench.
September 5th, 2012
I am sure LAD never drew under two million.
Got the slide rule out, Couch Tater. Stay tuned…
September 5th, 201210:29 pm
If this was an athletic, exciting and productive team–the atmosphere would obviously reflect favorably and, even in Atlanta…..I say we draw a solid 30k. The way it is as far a offensive prowess and wild card implications of current games….IMO, there seems to be a take it or leave it mindset towards the Atlanta Braves of 2012.
the Ghost of Chipper Jones
“…..Craig Kimbrel struck out Jordan Pacheco with two runners in scoring position to end the eighth inning and then struck out three of four batters in the ninth for his first career save of more than one inning. It was his first appearance longer than three outs since April 2011…..” DOB’s latest article
That wouldn’t have been necessary if the offense was doing it’s job. The pressure the hitters are puting on the pitching staff has got to end. They won’t be able to hold up under it.
September 5th, 201210:30 pm
Love that Bourn quote, DOB. Great stuff and yes, very Yogi-ish.
September 5th, 201210:31 pm
I am sure LAD never drew under two million.
The last time the Braves drew under 2 million was 1990. And they are over 2 million this year (currently 16th in MLB attendance)
September 5th, 201210:32 pm
Maybe it’s my imagination, but it seems the past few MINOR starts that he’s been getting more ground-ball outs than usual.
Ok, Kat, that’s better for our guys…
I wonder how good Minor will be. It’s hard to tell for me, but I think he can be a great #3 guy for a long time.
September 5th, 201210:34 pm
FCS, attendance again?? started by somebody who lives 2000 miles away? sheeesh
September 5th, 201210:35 pm
@Brava…Re: 10:27 post. Mike has had some hurdles this year…and he has improved….and, the lack of run support hasn’t dimmed his zeal.
September 5th, 201210:37 pm
Boy, if Minor and Medlen turn out to be our “aces” the blog might completely implode
Got the slide rule out
Mike – I hope it’s an Official Joe Simpson Head First slide rule.
*Stolen from the movie Major League*
Lou Brown aka Fredi: Well, you can run like Hays, but you hit like s***. With your speed, you should be hitting the ball on the ground and be legging them out. Everytime I see you hit one in the air, you owe me 20 push-ups.
Willie Mays Hayes aka Bourn: Hey, no problem!
[pops a ball up]
Willie Mays Hayes aka Bourn: S***.
September 5th, 201210:38 pm
Kevin McAlpin @KevinMcAlpin
Fredi (on Minor’s run support): “finally we got him some run support, I mean, what else does he want
September 5th, 201210:39 pm
Obama nominated. what a surprise….
I’d love to be able to go to 2 or 3 games a year but it just costs too much for me to blow that kinda money when I can sit here in the AC fix a little grub and chill out. I can drink all the Sweet Tea, Lemonade…for a fraction of the cost…
September 5th, 201210:41 pm
how many here actually know how to use a slide rule? other than the ‘don’t go head first’ slide rule I mean
2176 miles nolie.
September 5th, 201210:42 pm
Does baseball reference have hitters lh/rh splits by season? I’m really curious to see exactly what all this LH starters against the BRAVES is about.
There is a lack of shared prosperity in the Atlanta area….so many can’t make it.
September 5th, 201210:43 pm

The last time the DODGERS drew under two million was in the mid 1970s so tiger’s statement was incorrect.
