And Kris Medlen just cooly throws the next two outs as if it never happened!
I’m going to say it — the only difference between Medlen and Maddux is 20 years of excellence. Medlen has all the character and control of Maddux. He just has to do it for 19 more seasons!
Once again, I’m with you Disgusted. I’ve been advocating for Uggs all the way up till mid August, as he’s shown he can turn it around before, but right now he needs to swallow his pride and put in the man hours in the batting cage and video room.
Cubs have Darwin Barney at 2nd. He should win the gold glove this year and if he doesn’t it’s because he didn’t hit 40HR (offensive numbers are not supposed to be included but…). I don’t think the Cubs would displace him for Uggla.
Stizz — I believe that Uggla will and come back with a bang in 2013.
I would be intrigued at a possibility of Uggs for Soriano is the Cubs would do it. Soriano is maligned and his OPB is so so but the guy still gets you HRS and RBIS & is having a decent yr this yr. And Soriano is only signed untill 2014.
Nolie, I never saw a retort to my comment earlier. It’s probably because you can’t make an argument. You’re too busy making one or two sentence posts so that you can be high up on the frequency chart lol.
Hugo, I never said you would be looking for expensive players, just productive ones who do their job, which is what Uggla is not right now.
And to your point, check out the 40-man roster. Not many guys are over $3.5 mil.
If you take Chipper’s, McCann’s, Hudson’s, Jurrjens (not sure where he is contract-wise), and 3.5 million of Uggla, that is roughly $43 million of the payroll. If Bourn is interested in staying, that’s a lot of money to pay him and find him some friends to play left field and third base next season. I’ll swap McCann for a cheaper defense-oriented catcher. I’m afraid B-Mac’s best days are behind him, his bat is slowing down and the eyesight issues and injuries are not helping.
Folks, two hits but five walks! Good situational hitting yes, but also by moving the runners along who got the walks, it makes the difference we see here.
I would be intrigued at a possibility of Uggs for Soriano is the Cubs would do it. Soriano is maligned and his OPB is so so but the guy still gets you HRS and RBIS & is having a decent yr this yr. And Soriano is only signed untill 2014.

agree Trey on Medlen. The one thing that keeps the Braves looking good is the Nats inexcusably sitting down Stephen S. No science or data in that decision. Medlen is fresh for the stretch run
Plus, Darwin Barney is young, cheap and a solid defensive second baseman. Where would the Cubs put Uggla, in the outfield? Uggla thinks of himself as a second baseman. Not a fit, I believe.
Surely there’s room for Uggla at some barely-major-league outpost like Toronto, KC, Minnesota or Houston. Braves have done a good job dumping Francoeur, Schafer, Escobar and Kelly Johnson. They move on, taking their .225 batting averages Uggla would fit right in, although he’d have to crank it up a few notches to get to .225.

Oh, I believe the Braves could dump Uggla – if they’re willing to eat most of his remaining contract. What remains over three seasons? Something like $36 million? Not exactly pocket change.
there is no magic inning limit nolie on what the elbow can handle after Tommy John.No medica data. THe best you can get is a concensus opinion which you will not have in this case either. No significant different between 2 and 4 starts which would carry him to the end of the season.
If the Nats team doctors wanted to limit Stephen S., they should hav limited him early – either 5 innings per start for the first 2 months, started him in the bullpen, or use Lannan to skip Strasburg 4-5 times through the season so they cold hae him at the end of the season or in the post-season.
I like you thinking. I believe someone like Houston would take a flyer if the Braves paid a big chunk of the salary. Houston gets a huge reward if Uggla plays like he did for Florida, the Braves free up money, even just a little, to get a bat or two to compliment the new core and/or sign Bourn if possible. And I think Uggla would look like a better hitter playing half his games in that bandbox in Houston and in the more offensively-geared AL.

Thank goodness FG finally sat Uggla before the season was lost. At least if they dont make playoffs now, FG wont have to answer as to why he let Uggla continue to play everyday and that be one of the reasons for the teams collapse. FG may have saved his own job.
All of you talking about trading Uggla are forgetting one thing. Who is going to replace the power? That’s why they traded for him and put Prado in LF. They figured they’d get 30 HR from one of them. Won’t happen if they have to depend on Prado or Johnson for 30.

Hugo, what event in Braves history has there been a player they paid $15 million per year with the lowest average among everyday position players in the majors? From a guy expected to hit cleanup during his time here.
And currently the Braves are paying $10 million of his $15 million salary to the Indians to let Derek Lowe lose ballgames for them instead of Atlanta. And Lowe was almost as big a dumpster fire last year as Uggla is now.
