How many people at the time of the Uggla-Infante trade actually knew that Uggs was going to have this epic slump…. if anyone knew, please let me know; I’ll privately send you my email address, and you can email me back the winning ticket for Wednesday night’s Mega Millions. Thank you.

@USNAVY — Truth is that none of us knew & 99 pct of the fan base was ecstatic about that trade at the time. Uggla has been disappointing but I still think he can be the Marlin version of Uggla. Its not like he has bad legs or is old.

And the same with Mc Louth deal. At the time is looked right & genius, Wren was unlucky on that one.

You just never know. I do not blam FW on either of those 2 deals.

Only FW deal I strongly disagreed with was the Texiera to LAA, did no like Kotchman or Marek, would have preferred the draft picks and take their chances on them.

I liked the Uggla trade, at the time. Didn’t love it because I felt Martin was very good at 2B and Wren should have gone after an outfielder. But, considering how little he gave up, I was on board with it and thought, like many, Frank had made a great deal.

Bourn trade was a great trade, even if he leaves after this year. Getting 1.5 years of bourn and a draft pick for what we gave up is a steal.

The key to the Uggla and McCann situation is if Fredi keeps them on the bench tomorrow. Never liked the Uggly trade. Omar was always there…, he was and is a spark plug…., he played the game as it is suppose to be played…. Uggly looks like a 11 year old girl swatting at flies! There is a reason teams give up players and it is not always about the cash! He is a head case. Sutton said one time a few weeks back, when we would pitch to a timing type batter who had lost his timing…, it was like Christmas….., you could do anything you wanted to him. After they lose their timing…, the next thing to go is their sense of where the strike zone is. Right now, Uggly can not see the strike zone…., he has no clue where it is…..

Braves fan who puts team over the individual player

September 2nd, 2012
8:06 pm

The Braves need to let Bourn walk in free agency, unless he’s agrees to something in the range of $10-$11 mil a year.

Either McCann’s agrees to an extension in the range of $10-$11 mil a year (his history of injuries, plus the demands the catching position puts on his body as he ages…makes any contract a big risk)…..or the Braves pick up the $12mil 2013 team option, with the intention of trading him this off season.

Sign Hudson to another $9 mil a year contract (3 years)..or let him walk.

Let Chipper retire (in other words, dont give into the temptation and pick up the 2103 team option). We need a replacement for someone who has some life in him this time of the year (and who can play 150 games a year.

Trade Uggla and his contract (along Tommy Hanson) to the Dodgers in the off season (where maybe playing with Hanley Ramirez will revive his career)…..and use the money to go after a real right handed bat who wont stick up the place on a daily basis. Hanson is due a raise in arbitration (the Dodgers could use some more starting pitching).

Non-tender Jair Jurrjens.

Have Prado play 2nd (assuming he’s willing to sign a reasonable extension before he’s a free agent after the 2013 season), Simmons plays short, Freeman 1st….use the money from trading Uggla and Chipper retiring (as well as Lowe’s $10 mil coming off the books) to sign or trade for two right handed power bats to play left field and 3rd base.

The Braves have the prospects to make a trade…as well as the payroll flexibility.

2013 line-up

1. Bourn (assuming he signs a reasonable contract)
2. Prado
3. Heyward
4. Right handed power bat 3rd/left field
5. Freeman
6. Right handed power bat 3rd/left field
7. McCann (unless the right trade presents itself)
8, Simmons
9. Beachy, Medlen, Hudson, Minor, Maholm (Sheets, Teheran..only if someone’s hurt).

Despite choking once again in 2012……there is a lot of hope in 2013…if Frank Wren and company are smart about the above moves.

I did not like the trade at the time.

Not because I thought Uggla would be this bad, but rather, I called it the Uggla opportunity cost.

At the time we had Freeman, Prado, AGon, Chipper

Infante could play 2b, 3b and LF. Stability at the super sub, in fact he made the All-Star as one. Chipper could ease out with Infante covering him at 3b.

So the infield was on lock. The money we spent on Uggla could be better spent chasing outfielders which are easier to find.

I like Juan ok, but JJ Hoover and Aroldis are gonna be hell on wheels next year. Mike Dunn has been a bust, nothing lost there.

The Braves are a poor mid-market team, somehow, so spending the money on Uggla looked like a “value” signing, but is pretty expensive for this team.

Miami was able to trade for Infante this year, I might have offered Uggla to them for free.

Look at the Hawks and the Red Sox. Sometimes you just gotta pull the plug out of the drain to refresh the bathwater.
