How many people at the time of the Uggla-Infante trade actually knew that Uggs was going to have this epic slump…. if anyone knew, please let me know; I’ll privately send you my email address, and you can email me back the winning ticket for Wednesday night’s Mega Millions. Thank you.
@USNAVY — Truth is that none of us knew & 99 pct of the fan base was ecstatic about that trade at the time. Uggla has been disappointing but I still think he can be the Marlin version of Uggla. Its not like he has bad legs or is old.
And the same with Mc Louth deal. At the time is looked right & genius, Wren was unlucky on that one.
You just never know. I do not blam FW on either of those 2 deals.
Only FW deal I strongly disagreed with was the Texiera to LAA, did no like Kotchman or Marek, would have preferred the draft picks and take their chances on them.

After 7, It’s the Phillies 7, and the guy who’s in the lineup instead of Uggla, 3…phoenix
so dan coulda played and it would have made no real difference, we are gonna lose anyway
Grandpa gave away his Season Tickets
Phillies will pass the Braves
September 2nd, 20127:55 pm
It must be a team rule that nobody is supposed to hit in the month of September and it must be a team rule that the Braves have to roll over and play dead for the Phillies when they play in the month of September.
I liked the Uggla trade, at the time. Didn’t love it because I felt Martin was very good at 2B and Wren should have gone after an outfielder. But, considering how little he gave up, I was on board with it and thought, like many, Frank had made a great deal.
September 2nd, 20127:56 pm
Tomahawk — I would take Pagan for 2 yrs but do NOT want to overpay even if we get desparate.
And I hope that FW (whom I still like as a smart baseball man) not to get caught up in those hide and go sucker games with Scott Borass.
I’d be happy if we just said screw the Borass clients. They are a disgrace to Hell.
Anybody interview JS on the poor play of the braves especially in light of last season’s collapse as well
NO MORE FREDI
Feel free to jump on the FIRE FREDI bandwagon. We have room but mine started in 2011 for the record.
WHY IS ROSS STILL PLAYING??????
September 2nd, 20127:58 pm
I thought te problem was all Uggla and as soon as he sat out a game we would win it
Remember when everyone on here was ready to have sex with Wren because of the Cubs trade? Still feel the same way? None of his deals ever work out. Yes Bourn is killing it this year but to leave Atlanta and get paid.
Agree brava – I thought the Uggla trade was a good one at the time
The real winner is Liberty Media ,35,000 in the TED today and over 2million for the season. After payroll cuts next year bottom line will be looking great.Liberty might decide to keep the Braves after all.
September 2nd, 20127:59 pm
I agree. Pagan would be a good acquistion. He plays a respectable center field and he gets on base at a solid clip.
September 2nd, 20128:00 pm
Still feel the same way?..NMF
yeah cause Johnson has been so terrible
The A Bomb
Pagan and Headley — 2 switch hitters — I keep saying it. And they would be cheaper.
Nolie — We really have to have the good Uggla back — I do not know if we will see that this yr but for 13 I am not giving up hope.
He busts his azz plays better D than some of us thought & you know what he can do when he is right.
I do not want to give up on him and I’d like to see the good Mc Cann back but this team is =frustrating to watch in this collapse now.
I do not think this team breaks out of this — This Sept is likely to be worse than last.

Bourn trade was a great trade, even if he leaves after this year. Getting 1.5 years of bourn and a draft pick for what we gave up is a steal.
It also showed the braves the importance of speed. If not Bourn, I expect us to look at pagan and victorino
No way Yawnish is a bench player next year. Guys on the bench need to be able to pinch hit – He can’t hit.
He needs to be playing in Gwinnett everydaynext year in case Simmons or Uggs get hurt. 205 with Uggs is better than 205 with Yawnish = Uggs will run into 14-20 HRs next year
We would be winning if it wasn’t for the 1st inning.
The physical pain must be relatively high for the Braves….seems many guys are hurting. This may have more to with this ‘bad streak,’ than Fredi’s managerial missteps [???]: moreover, when you have several players who make more money than a Manager…Is it not best to do as Fredi and treat them as a treasured herd of sheep?
A-Bomb — Pagan we can get but Headley, I think SD likes him alot too. Oh well, FW can try. That is all U can ask.
September 2nd, 20128:03 pm
The key to the Uggla and McCann situation is if Fredi keeps them on the bench tomorrow. If Ross is hurting start Boscan,it would be a sign that Fredi is trying to lead the team and not giving in to his under performing stars.Heck isn’t Prado the emergency catcher ,stick him back there, that might motivate McCann to put down the box of Krispy Kremes .
No way Yawnish is a bench player next year. Guys on the bench need to be able to pinch hit – He can’t hit….Mark
you mean like Wilson? They have already said that they are seriously looking at his as a sub ala Jack
September 2nd, 20128:04 pm
That wild card lead is shrinking fast. Yikes!
Any of our young pitchers would succeed in that large ocean air ballpark. Delgado OR Teheran plus another prospect or two — might pry Headley.
So what you are saying above is trading for Headley (trade starting with Delgado) and the signing pagan. Put Prado at 2B and trade Uggla for soriano who will play LF?
September 2nd, 20128:05 pm
What the hell? I would think Janish is a lock for the bench next season. He’s done GREAT.
Brian @ 8:01 — You are right about that cause we did not give up much for him.
And he has been a great player for us except for down the stretch. Did not do much last Sept and looks like he is a guy who is going to let us down in Sept again.
We need guys on this team who believe that the month of September is on the schedule. I doubt we win 5 games this month.
Never liked the Uggly trade. Omar was always there…, he was and is a spark plug…., he played the game as it is suppose to be played…. Uggly looks like a 11 year old girl swatting at flies! There is a reason teams give up players and it is not always about the cash! He is a head case. Sutton said one time a few weeks back, when we would pitch to a timing type batter who had lost his timing…, it was like Christmas….., you could do anything you wanted to him. After they lose their timing…, the next thing to go is their sense of where the strike zone is. Right now, Uggly can not see the strike zone…., he has no clue where it is…..
September 2nd, 20128:06 pm
I see I was right earlier when I said I would come home and read about the loss.
Five in a row tomorrow.
Go Cards, Pirates, and Dodgers!
Brian — ANYTHING that would help Gonzalez NOT make moves in the lineup helps this team in so many ways.
I figure he’ll be back just to piss us all off.
Braves fan who puts team over the individual player
The Braves need to let Bourn walk in free agency, unless he’s agrees to something in the range of $10-$11 mil a year.
Either McCann’s agrees to an extension in the range of $10-$11 mil a year (his history of injuries, plus the demands the catching position puts on his body as he ages…makes any contract a big risk)…..or the Braves pick up the $12mil 2013 team option, with the intention of trading him this off season.
Sign Hudson to another $9 mil a year contract (3 years)..or let him walk.
Let Chipper retire (in other words, dont give into the temptation and pick up the 2103 team option). We need a replacement for someone who has some life in him this time of the year (and who can play 150 games a year.
Trade Uggla and his contract (along Tommy Hanson) to the Dodgers in the off season (where maybe playing with Hanley Ramirez will revive his career)…..and use the money to go after a real right handed bat who wont stick up the place on a daily basis. Hanson is due a raise in arbitration (the Dodgers could use some more starting pitching).
Non-tender Jair Jurrjens.
Have Prado play 2nd (assuming he’s willing to sign a reasonable extension before he’s a free agent after the 2013 season), Simmons plays short, Freeman 1st….use the money from trading Uggla and Chipper retiring (as well as Lowe’s $10 mil coming off the books) to sign or trade for two right handed power bats to play left field and 3rd base.
The Braves have the prospects to make a trade…as well as the payroll flexibility.
1. Bourn (assuming he signs a reasonable contract)
4. Right handed power bat 3rd/left field
6. Right handed power bat 3rd/left field
7. McCann (unless the right trade presents itself)
9. Beachy, Medlen, Hudson, Minor, Maholm (Sheets, Teheran..only if someone’s hurt).
Despite choking once again in 2012……there is a lot of hope in 2013…if Frank Wren and company are smart about the above moves.
We need to replace Hanson too — don’t hang on to that BUMB too long and make the same mistake as with JJ.
Hanson is number one on my S list for now.
We could also move EOF for Bourjos and a prospect or try to move avilan to the angels.
I think avilan is looking better and better
September 2nd, 20128:07 pm
I did not like the trade at the time.
Not because I thought Uggla would be this bad, but rather, I called it the Uggla opportunity cost.
At the time we had Freeman, Prado, AGon, Chipper
Infante could play 2b, 3b and LF. Stability at the super sub, in fact he made the All-Star as one. Chipper could ease out with Infante covering him at 3b.
So the infield was on lock. The money we spent on Uggla could be better spent chasing outfielders which are easier to find.
I like Juan ok, but JJ Hoover and Aroldis are gonna be hell on wheels next year. Mike Dunn has been a bust, nothing lost there.
The Braves are a poor mid-market team, somehow, so spending the money on Uggla looked like a “value” signing, but is pretty expensive for this team.
Miami was able to trade for Infante this year, I might have offered Uggla to them for free.
Look at the Hawks and the Red Sox. Sometimes you just gotta pull the plug out of the drain to refresh the bathwater.
Can’t count on beachy in 2013
Bourn is not gonna get anything near 10-11 mil
September 2nd, 20128:08 pm

Good luck with that one — Dodgers cannot take on everybody’s money.
Hanson I would ship out of town in a minute but Uggla I still am not giving up on him.
Someone will pay Bourn 16-17. Just watch.
most people that liked the Uggla trade thought he was going to at least hit 30 plus homers….if he fails to do this (and he will this season) he is of no use to this team throughout a complete season….
September 2nd, 20128:09 pm
Good job, Peter
September 2nd, 20128:10 pm
Peter Moylan is looking good. At least that’s a positive.
Avilan is looking real good… might be able to replace EOF, allowing us to trade him in a package for CF help… like Jay or Bourjos. That 3.5 mil or so in salary cleared also helps us get Greinke.
Charlie sure got the best of Freddi in that 7th inning. I would bet anything Reed Johnson with three RBI will not be in lineup tomorrow. Some say players are AAAA and will never be MLP well Constanza could never get past AAA. Ken Rosenthal on his rumors named Manual as one of seven managers on the hot seat . Hell he won a WS a few years ago why the hell didnt he have are. loser on there. If Ross is as bad as they say he is take his sorry ass out. When McCann hit in July so did he. Cards and Dodgers will be coming for us but we dont have to worry about Pirates. Yes Moylan is there a surgery that you havent had yet.
They got Uggla because they could not find an OFer with pop. Offensively in real life there is no difference between Ulla at second and Prado in left than Prado in second and Uggla in left, and Prado is a better LFer than he is second baseman too
September 2nd, 20128:11 pm
Look the worst part about Uggla is now we’re benching him against tough LEFTIES when in essence we got him to crush lefties out of the 4-hole and break up the lefthanded monopoly so intelligently put together by Wren.
This is not a good sign.
If used crrectly, Moylan may be a useful addition to the bullpen.
September 2nd, 20128:12 pm
we’re benching him against tough LEFTIES when in essence we got him to crush lefties out of the 4-hole ….ABomb
though he never really has hit lefties near as well as righties
Just as long as it isn’t the Braves
September 2nd, 20128:14 pm
what happened to wasting a pitch? geez, putz with a meatball down the middle to gonzalez to lose the game in la, kimbrel the other night. 0-2 counts thought the pitcher had a advantage?
September 2nd, 20128:15 pm
Nice day at the ball yard for Johnson.
Chip and Joe are full of crap about the bullpen ,do they forget the 0-2 double that Hamels hit off of C-Mart .I know Maholm got charged for the runs ,but they were scored off the bullpen.
Reed Johnson needs to play more.
Kimbrel was trying to waste on at head height, just didn’t locate it where he wanted
Wouldm’t be the first time I disagreed with Braves amnagement of the bench or who starts.
Yawnish has been the consumate professional – He has excelled at what he does well. But, in this day and time, I wouldn’t agree with using a defensive replacement that hits poorly taking up a spot on the roster. Would they take Simmons out for defense? I think not and if Uggla were to ever come around and hit some he isn’t so terrible in the field we need a guy over there for him.
September 2nd, 20128:16 pm
Reed has been a very good addition.
This is where you hit for Janish. Burned Baker though. Unbelievable.
Fire Fredi and keep these bums. Poof! Instant WS champs.
Been begging for Johnson for two years at least
September 2nd, 20128:18 pm
Here’s Uggla’s chance to put up or shut up.
Uggla just feels like the Lowe signing. We had to do something, so we… well, look the Marlins were willing to trade him within the division.
Prado (staph year aside) is a .300 hitter. Infante had a pretty nice line drive stick too.
What about this guy? Maybe we could work an Uggla deal for him? LA is locked up in the OF until like 2017.
You’re right nolie — BUT — he’s here to break up the lefties and present a threat.
Speaking of the godson, here he comes (all upset).
I understand Mark, but they have usually gone with a great defensive BU SS, and with the scoring going back to previous levels, my guess is that they think that is still the way to go.
September 2nd, 20128:19 pm
Freddi sure loves his Uggla let him PH hell want not try a lefty once against a lefty with are bench it couldnt. Maybe hes hoping he will hit into DP . Freddi you are the MAN>
September 2nd, 20128:20 pm
Uggla is going to be batting angry. Let’s see how this goes.
haha. I love it. Uggla was lifted for the lefty. Which he should have been.
September 2nd, 20128:21 pm
This is really gonna get interesting.
Ah, Fredi takes out Uggs for Overbay.
Geat Philly Pitching prohibiting Bravos’ hitters this series….except Reed J.? Please Fredi, refrain. No real solid excuse for this ‘mini crash.’ It happens in MLB…I grant you, but this stuff, wow, I think it’s more mental than anything else.
As the acclaimed ‘head case’ ambles to the plate—with high hopes to smack another ‘dobbie?’ No, wait….strategy suggests a change now —-relax Dan.
going to Lyle?
oh no! Uggla is just a decoy now!
September 2nd, 20128:22 pm
I wonder how Uggla is feeling right now?
kimbrel wasn’t trying to locate high BTW, watch the replay. he should have been but mccann set up outside.
Wouldn’t be surprised but next year when we need a pinch hit rbi and the last guy on the bench is Yawnish its gonna be ugly. The worst part of that scenario will be that Yawnish will be put in a siyuation that he will have trouble being successful in and it wont be his fault
September 2nd, 20128:23 pm
I would not want to be the chaw in Ugg’s jaw right about now…
CHOMP CHOMP CHOMP
Hey! Freddi’s finally figured out how to use Uggla! Makes a fine decoy…
Probably an accident though…
That was not a strike.
Good eye–good…..oh, bye!
“….I mean, what more can you ask for than to get a top education while playing for the best team in the country?”
“You know UVA is going to stay one of the top programs because they always get so many great pitchers. Hopefully, when the time comes, I can do my part to help the team as well.”
TYLER ALLEN news article POWHATAN TODAY
Been practicing my cliches with my grandson. He’s doing pretty good if i do say so myself.
September 2nd, 20128:24 pm
Well, that was very productive. Nice Job!!
That called strike 3 wasn’t too bad outside, just in the other batters box….
This ump is pizzing me off now.
Overbay had no intentions on swinging the bat. Pathetic.
Well, at least someone stepped up and struck out…
September 2nd, 20128:25 pm
Here we fo with the ever-changing strike zone again . . . .
Overbay had a legitimate beef with the called third strike.
SS that can hit and play D are expensive, so you make a choice. PH a guy once in a while who doesn’t hit, or have to play a guy in the field who can’t defend well. They have gone with defense since 91. and I tend to agree with that
Fredi…are you monitoring the Ump behind home plate?
The ump is crazy! So, don’t swing and let him drive you crazy! Brilliant.
September 2nd, 20128:26 pm
Freddi just added added gasoline on fire…Uggla will demand to get out of Atlanta unless they win a (1) playoff game and I am not sure that will be enough…and pretty sure that any happening anyway
why would he swing at a pitch that he thought was well outside?
September 2nd, 20128:27 pm
You don’t swing at balls when you need baserunners.
Wonder what Uggla thought being lifted for overby
Gee, i really thought picking up another teams average player would make our team amazing.
September 2nd, 20128:28 pm
Because the ump has not been reliable. You play with fire, you get burnt. No need to cry about it.
