Disgusted, I agree on a Bourn contract. He’s gone anyways. I just have him waaaay down the list of blame right now.

To the positives – we ARE leading the wild card race. We have two guys, Huddy and Medlen, who at any time can shut any offense down. Our lineup at any time can make other pitchers have the runs. JHey is looking like a superstar on the way. FF didn’t have a sophmore funk. The pen is still one of the best in baseball. Also I think the callups today can only help out.

It’s not that Bourn will be too expensive, it’s more that the Boras factor means he will want more years that we would be comfortable with.

A 4 year contract? I’d pay for that. I bet they will fish for 6 though.

Pagan also is having a career year, but he might could be had for cheaper and for 3-4 years.

CTB – One of the positives about the season (post season or not) is that the team has done better than alot of people expected.

At worst we should have 86 or 87 wins and while that makes us short for post season, it is second place & not the 4th that many pundits had us in.

Its up to those in charge to step it up and get us a little better and we can be a consistent post season team again.

We should still be mad about last yr.

With Uggla we thought we were getting 260/350/480 30+ HR 90+ RBI which is what he produced on average playing with the Marlins. He’s far away from those numbers…

208/340/373 really? That’s horrible compared to what he was and at this point hopefullky he can atleast be the 2011 Dan Uggla from here on out. Atleast he hit 36 homers and hit 230

The keys to this season were Heyward and Uggla.

Factor in McCann and Uggla and it makes it tough.

Anything you get from the SS is a bonus. I never was an AGon fan and Simmons, even though he looks like a bit of a .280 line drive hitter, showed that a good glove is what you want at SS.

I have my dugout seats for the last home game. I was hoping to usher Chipper out with one last tase of playoffs, but, I’ll settle for an $80 beer tab and the memories I guess.

Pagan would be a decent option, but nothing special. He’s only a average defender as well and that might be too kind considering he’s a negative for dWAR the past 2 seasons. But he would steal some bases and hopefully provide a OBP better than 340.

I do like the moves Wren has made for the bench. Janish, Baker, Overbay, and Johnson are all solid additions. With Baker’s ability to hit LHP I really hope Wren considered signing him for 2013. Same for Johnson. Resigning David Ross is a no brainer as well.

We’d have a bench of Ross, Baker, Francisco, Janish, Johnson. Pastor would be the next in line at AAA.

Uggla finished August at .207/.324/.424, with 5 2B, 5 HR and 15 RBI for the month. Puts him pretty much smack in the middle of all ML second basemen, offensively, for the month. (and hit what should’ve been the game-winner last night.) Got on base (or hit a HR) 37 times in 27 games in August. And his defense has been slightly above average for the year.

I’m not suggesting he’s playing up to his salary – he’s not. But I think the constant theme that Uggla is killing us is just a mass delusion on the part of the blog. It’s compounded by having no bat at SS for now.

Factor in the possibility that he does recover and produces big numbers for a stretch, and there’s just no reason to bench him for more than a game now and then, IMO.

Janish was nice, but it makes you wonder why they did not got with Simmons out of spring training. The glove was absolutely MLB ready. They run run pastor out there and then all of the sudden, it’s all about the glove and bring Janish in. It’s that kind of waffle thinking that concerns one.

Hinske got paid and went soft. That sucks.

Also, they should have left Pastor in AAA this year to get his super util on. Sitting on the bench in Atlanta did nothing to further his future role as a sub.

It’s kinda like Uggla went along with the team approach about taking walks but instead of adding that to his game it replaced hitting for power. He’s only hit 17 home runs… Not even half of last season’s total… The only thing that is solid is his OBP which is a massive 132 points better than his AVG.. But then his slugging is only 34 points higher than that… Which is 100 points lower than his career number. Oh and he’s playing positive defense for only the 2nd time in his career.

My favorite time as a braves fan was that stretch from 91 to 95, I was not disappointed in the 92 series cause Toronto was more seasoned and ready for the next step & in 93, they spent the stretch chasing down SF and just ran out of energy vs that one shot wonder Philly team.

We really really should have gotten it done in 96. Had they held on to the 96 series they would have gotten more historical respect as a great team even if they did not win one more.

I say for the level of talent we had we should have 3 big banners up there instead of one.

Uggla won’t hit 30 this year but if he gets reasonably hot he can make a bid for 25. And drive in over 80.

Jeff R – If, you had to ask, my post failed.

CB – Thanks, but see above. I’ll have to dust off my Hokie jokes. heh
