Register? For what? Surely they won’t ruin a good thing here….
Then again, I’m sure they will….oh well, if so, it was good gabbing with you all over the last year and a half….
Hmmm I think something must be up with registering accountant because everything I try is taken and some are with -,_ etc.
August 29th, 20124:10 pm
if Castro can keep defending anywhere near what he has this season, that could turn out to be a great deal for the Cubbies
August 29th, 20124:11 pm
This is the one park where Hanson could have success with those fences being farther away from the plate than Heyward when he hits.
I see no reason why anyone who is sincere here would have any trouble with registering, its not like they are asking personal info
August 29th, 20124:12 pm
Kat, it seems that all our names are already taken….by us. how is that gonna work out I wonder
Medlen is half Hanson’s size, but is a TON braver. That’s hilarious!
August 29th, 20124:13 pm
Not sure though to what extent the Castro deal would affect a Prado deal, but could be a starting point.
have dodgers claimed Joe Mauer yet?
“I see no reason why anyone who is sincere here would have any trouble with registering, its not like they are asking personal info”
I’d rather not register. Just one more screen name and password to remember. Plus we’d lose some of the crazys. A little crazy is always good.
August 29th, 20124:14 pm
Nope FREDI does not believe in CGs. BELIEVE IN THE MEDS.
me neither Heisen

Now drinking iced coffee to counteract pre-noon beer #suckstobeold
MFin04, did you include yourself in that group?
nolie hmm I dunno. And I tired all —- and ____ with various numbers and they say all are taken. Hard to believe.

August 29th, 20124:17 pm
It is good a west coast team is going to let us have a early night game tonight. Thank you SD.
I am ALL FOR losing every crazy that we can lose.especially the ones who come on here under dozens of different names and say the same stupid stuff. (now that might be crabby )
and its not like it is an important site, just use the same password as some other one
Uggla can drive a fan crazy, but I do like the guy as a person. Even from the tv I can tell he’s as real a person as there is. Maybe if he didn’t care so much about other people’s feelings he would use his talents as a hitter more consistent. I bet he presses trying to please people. I’m a people pleaser myself.
CB – WE ARE ALL CRAZY/DELUSIONAL. Just depends to what extent.
August 29th, 20124:18 pm
Just registered. I had a dickens of a time with the CAPTCHA. I mnever have had that problem anywhere else.
I’m fine with registering. They didn’t ask any personal info, except date of birth. If it gets rid of multiple names, and identity theft on the blog, I’m all for it.
Those pick-offs by Medlen last night were awesome!! Should’ve had another one in the 1st inning, but the umpire missed it. I can’t remember the last time I was so mezmerized watching some pitch. When Medlen is on the mound, I get my snacks while the offense is hitting, LOL.
August 29th, 20124:19 pm
Y’all better register some names with eee’s too. Don’t think I’ll go easy on you if we do have to login.
thats all it could be Kat, try Katt maybe
Apparently I’m already registered but can’t remember my password. They tell me that my name and my email address are already taken and that I seem familiar.
VJ, you and Cab get us another win tonight, brother.
I know Kat is headed back to NYC, is DS1 going tonight too?
Enjoy the game guys.
testing, testing, test, test, can you hear me now?
I’m gonna register and change my name soon if I can figure it out
I just can’t respect the Dodgers. You go and try to buy championships and fans and it’s tacky. That’s pretty much what they’re doing, but they can, so they’re doing it. Fake ass team.
August 29th, 20124:20 pm
not sure you are gonna be able to register multiple names Soph, seems that would make it pretty useless.
I heard that chatt
August 29th, 20124:22 pm
nolie @4:17 – I agree, and don’t consider that crabby at all.
I’ve always hated the pin stripers and the dodgers with the possible exception of Jackie Robinson
The A Bomb
August 29th, 20124:23 pm
Gotta get some of you SoCal visitors to stop overpaying for food and to get you to real food not far away. Not the commercialized crapola.
August 29th, 20124:25 pm
Beckett is washed up though. Hanley is nothing but a virus who cares about himself only. Crawford is always hurt and apparantly not that good when does play anymore.
RE multiple names…what if it’s more than 1 person using the same e-mail account? We do at our house.
noles, you better have at least 6 eee’s on the one you register then!
August 29th, 20124:26 pm
was just wondering what struck you that way earlier raleigh since I am actually in a pretty good mood all day
Register where? And why? I’m here, same as always, no problem.
What am I overlooking?
August 29th, 20124:28 pm
Dodgers only effectively added AGon. Who knows what Crawford will be and Beckett is done. They may have actually hurt themselves. I know people are critical of Braves for not going out and getting the high price guys but how is that also working out for Detroit & the Angels? The model of 2-3 max paid superstars works in the NBA but with MLB you win with depth and balance.
I wonder if you can change your name if you want to later?
What’s really funny is when some idiot uses multiple names, starrts talking to him (her)self, and then forgets to change the name….or when DOB calls them out.
What’s really NOT funny, is when someone steals your identity, and uses it top talk trash.
thanks for the blog DOB – love watching Meds pitch.
Any old photos of Meds with the little girls backpack on for old times sake?

August 29th, 20124:29 pm
The only real difference with the new comment system is that you need a real email address now instead of a fake one. No biggie.
I think the multi usernames are only limited by the email addresses you supply. But it is a start.
The In-Game Goobers will have to go to alot of trouble just to rant and attack other posters.
Yeah… but you can change you’re online name whenever you want in that new system… It also allows profile pictures.
I don’t know raleigh, we do too though they all have different EMail accts in AOL. guess it will depend if they just use Email ot tie it to the IP address, which would limit others from posting on the same network. if they just use Email , it won’t change much for us or for the crazies.Just hafta see
August 29th, 20124:31 pm
Whatever the heck it is you guys are talking about, I’ll figure it out whenever I get bumped off of here and see a prompt or whatever…..
lowercase phil – some of the AJC blogs have updated to where you have to register/sign in to comment. Some here are assuming the same will happen with DOB’s blogs so they’re registering by clicking on the register/sign in button in the top right corner of the AJC homepage.
“What’s really NOT funny, is when someone steals your identity, and uses it top talk trash.”
Lol. Nah that is fun. That is when you know you’ve gotten under someone’s skin pretty bad that they have to still your moniker. Lol. People love the word moniker.
August 29th, 20124:32 pm
Larry A – Just here for a last post. I put Hanson it with Sheets, because you still don’t know until Beachy comes back? Should be an interesting off season though. I think we should keep Francisco on the bench next year, because I would like Prado to stay at 3rd, and Braves to spend big money on big LF. bat…..Forget the starting pitching. It will be fine. Once again all have a good one, and talk tonight! Peace Out, and “Go!!!!!Braves!!!!!”
So, just to see what the buzz was all about, I registered.
My take is, if AJC doesn’t get their act together, this will kill the blog, if they enforce registration.
First, in Mozilla Firefox, the captch image didn’t show. It told me to enter the text in the image, but there was no image.
Switched to IE, and went thru the process again. This time, the captcha image was there, but (of course) unreadable. Decided to hit the speaker, and have it play it for me. Sounded like something out of The Exorcist, as it played a continuous stream of various voices uttering unintelligible words. No two words were more prominent than any others, so it was no help.
Killed that, refreshed captcha and was able to read the next words. So, finally got that done. (as others have noted, captcha is always a PITA, not just here)
Then, the email that was s’posed to come to me took about 10 minutes to arrive. Not a big deal, I guess, but not exactly confidence-inspiring after all the other issues.
Got it done, though maybe not needed.
Again, I’m not opposed to some type of registration, but that alone will thin the ranks a lot. And if the process isn’t more efficient than I found it to be, you’ll lose a lot more due to that.
Nolie – I just restarted my modem and got a different IP addy from my ISP – and I’m still logged on to AJC, so it appears that it’ll be username/email, not IP address.
August 29th, 20124:33 pm
Lets go Braves & Marlins!
i havent had to register either. im confused.

nolie – Truthfully, my friend, I don’t remember, and don’t feel like going back. I ‘m sure I was just kidding with you, anyway. I would never disrespect you on purpose.
Samantha, are you on here sweetie?
Are you registered?
August 29th, 20124:36 pm
Animus, that would make sense as most IP service providers charge extra for a static IP address. Yours probably changes every 72 hours whether you restart you modem or not. 72 hours is a standard lease time for most DHCP servers, then a new IP addresss is issued.
August 29th, 20124:38 pm
I hope it doesn’t kill the blog… Not like you have to give up much info.
August 29th, 20124:39 pm
Just a day off for Freeman, so could get another right-handed bat in lineup.
Lefty hitters vs. Padres starter Stults: .129 (8-for-62) w/ 2 extra-base hits, .154 OBP and .380 OPS; righty batters: .280 (49-for-175) w/ 14 exta-base hits, .333 OBP and .750 OPS.
August 29th, 20124:40 pm
M-V-P….Most Valuable Prado…the guy is amazing. True baller! Isn’t it interesting how the addition of Reed Johnson has given Fredi some flexibility to rest players and play righty/lefty pitching matchups. That tells you how poor the Braves bench was (and past Johnson/Ross/Francisco) still is, when you can’t count on a becnh player to give you a spot start! This should serve the team well in September as guys can catch a breather when needed.
Thought Topce: So I’ve heard some talk of Craig Kimbrel in the conversation for the NL Cy Young? That can only happen if there are no clear dominant starters, which I guess in the NL, there’s not. The NL has some great closers with Kimbrel, Chapman (CIN), and the Hammer-guy (PIT). All are having great years. Braves seem to be better about adding runs late in games, so the save chances have decreases. Much rather have a 4-5 run lead in the 9th, than 1-2. If Kimbrel could get closer to 45-50 saves I could see a possible Cy Young, but with the number of games remaining, I don’t think he’ll get that many chances, and no need to tire his arm out for that!
Maybe now we will be able to tell the REAL Ward from FAKE Ward.
nolie – The crabby remark was when you were having trouble with that “captcha” thing. You said something like “This site is pyssing me off..”
I’m sure raleigh was messing with ya.
August 29th, 20124:41 pm
Hanson is 4-0 with a 2.01 ERA in five starts vs.Padres, inc. 3-0 with a 1.42 ERA in three starts at Petco Park.
Well, it would be nice if DOB could answer the question about whether registration will be needed on this blog. DOB,kind sir?
August 29th, 20124:42 pm
Kat, it seems that all our names are already taken….by us. how is that gonna work out I wonder _ nolie
I registered as Bat Masterson. It wouldn’t let be list my age as 159 years old, though.
August 29th, 20124:43 pm
“Hanson is 4-0 with a 2.01 ERA in five starts vs.Padres, inc. 3-0 with a 1.42 ERA in three starts at Petco Park.”
Yeh because the 390 foot homers he loves to give up don’t go out in this park. Good for him.
I registered as raleighbravefan, with no trouble, except for the CAPTCRAP.
August 29th, 20124:44 pm
At least it’s not a 9pm game tonight
August 29th, 20124:45 pm
Well, time for me to go. Let’s go Braves.
i dont see where i would register if i wanted to.
Will registering now help later when it isn’t even necessary here?
I HATE “improvements” like this….
It says my email already exists. Waiting on the email to tell me my password or help me reset it.
August 29th, 20124:46 pm
changed my name from bf54 to chipontheroad so expect my blurbs of inane drivel to stay the same
hope big red learned something from Kris last night
August 29th, 20124:47 pm
“Yeh because the 390 foot homers he loves to give up don’t go out in this park. Good for him.”
Someone mentioned earlier that the balls carries during day games at Petco.
High Socks Mondays
First, I love Medlen and am thrilled he is having this kind of success. Even when he was rehabbing from Tommy John and he was sitting on the bench, he felt like an integral part of the spirit of the team.
Second, DOB – This is a brilliant piece of writing. Your writing is always good and your reporting is top notch, but this is a particularly well-done piece. Great lede, great use of quotes, and great stats all pulled together in significantly less than 24 hours. I realize my opinion doesn’t really count, but if I were a journalism professor, I would give this article an A+.
August 29th, 20124:48 pm
“At least it’s not a 9pm game tonight”
Well that just gives us more time to vent after Tommy Hanson goes all Tommy Hanson on us. I do hope he pitches well, just am not going to hold my breath.
August 29th, 20124:49 pm
Medlen was great last night! Simply great! Maddux like. Why was he held back is my question? Why all that “stretching” at Gwinnett silliness? Oh, well–they finally got it right.
Uggla finally did something. Will last night’s HR finally wake him from his long slumber?
August 29th, 20124:51 pm
Medlen will be NL pitcher of the month for August, really going out on a limb here!

This is what a new blog would look like:
This DOB blog is still an old blog.
That didn’t work at all….my name is taken, probably by me or the uppercase phil that appears now and then….
What a shame that ruining this thing is apparently at hand. To heck with em.
August 29th, 20124:53 pm
Don’t be at all surprised but what the next step will be to start charging for digital subscriptions. I know that’s what the Tennessean in Nashville recently went to. You can read the headlines on all the articles, including sports, but you can’t click on any articles to read or comment on them. I know they were already in trouble with their subscriptions, as they are about as liberal-biased as the AJC in their news coverage, etc. Also, they have started limiting posting comments except through a facebook account. They use to have comments galore, but now have dwindled to hardly nothing at all. A friend I had there who still works there says they screwed up big time. I have no problem with registering with limited info, as it’s already that way on several sites I’m on such as the Indy Star, AZ Republic, Knoxville News\Sentinel, and others.
yeah I know you was messing, just wondering if I was coming across other than I meant which happens once in a while
better than night game, that’s all
August 29th, 20124:54 pm
Page not found, Count.
So glad this is an earlier game
August 29th, 20124:55 pm
I really want to see Hanson come out aggressive tonight. And why can’t some people understand the reasoning behind Meds starting the season in the bullpen? The lineup for the game is a little unusual but maybe it will work just fine!
August 29th, 20124:56 pm
What a shame that ruining this thing is apparently at hand. To heck with em. — phil
Oh, we’ve had a handful of folks who’ve done more ruining than any sign-up procedure ever could.
And what, does registering make it a little harder for a few folks to be vitriol-spewing misanthropes? Because we sure wouldn’t want that.
(Note: I’m not referring to the vast majority of good people here; I’m referring to a handful, and they know exactly who they are.)
August 29th, 20124:57 pm
Sundrop is of course exactly right…..we will soon have to pay to stay here….as inevitable as the rising of the tide….
August 29th, 20124:58 pm
So do you have to register or not?
I hope so D O’B on that misanthropes deal
This is what a new blog would look like.
