CaptMudd – Of course it’s OK to disagree. What I am saying, is that even if the offense is in a terrible slump, that does not mean the players didn’t give their best effort. Even if they made errors and mental mistakes, doesn’t mean that they don’t care enough. And even if they lose, it doesn’t mean that they didn’t really, Really REALLY want to win and try to win.

Throwing out F Bombs is not playing with emotion. It just shows immaturity and embarrasses and reflects on family and their values or lack of.
People take their small children to games as a family outing to have fun and to make memories. The players that disrespect themselves, their families and every fan present take away from those experiences.
I grew up watching Aaron, Carty, Evans at Atlanta Fulton County Stadium. My Dad didn’t have to explain childish behavior from those guys to me or my brother.

I thought about you while I was there. There were quite a few exchanges between the judge and some miscreant about understanding such and such. One involved a guy waving his right to a speedy trail. The judge asked the guy to explain it to him then when the guy finished the judge “yes that’s right, only completely backwards”
Another had to do with understanding have no contact with someone, nor trespass, nor be in the vicinity of. That one was quite lengthy and I suspect the “be in the vicinity of” will be the guys downfall.

We’ve got a fairly easy 31 games ahead of us. We draw 10 out of divison games vs. the Pirates, Brewers and Rockies.
And we face the Nats only 3 more times – although it’d be nice to have more head to head vs. them at this point. But purely from a one-game WC standpoint, we should be good.

back to above where people are talking about trading relievers……….
It would not surprise me one bit if EOF or Venters is traded in the offseason. An obvious trading partner would be the Angels who desparately need relief pitchers (especially lefty relief) and have a surplus of OF and young starting pitching prospects. A deal for Bourjos and a lower level prospect would work

I was frustrated last night, because the Braves needed to at least win the Padre series, and now they made things tougher on themselfs, and the way Hanson pitched. Depends on how much they improve. Bourjos in 2011 did almost have 40 XBH with 22 SB and a solid 765 OPS. If he can get closer to that production it wouldn’t be so bad. Too early to tell on Simmons with the bat, no one expected him to hit this well starting out.

i don’t think they should be over fair criticism but also don’t mind their fans who think they can make no mistake and sometimes defend them when these people themselves have admitted some mistakes and explained how they learned from those mistakes. tho i have to admit that i partake in the guilty pleasure of teasing some of those fans, may be once a year, just for fun. no biggie. just another side of the coin that has some people thinking that people like Wren and Fredi have zero baseball knowledge.

Thank goodness for Medlen, Minor, Maholm, and Hudson. With Sheets ailing (I should’ve known better!), Hanson stinking up the place, and JJ a veritable waste of a 40-man roster space, I would not hesitate to bring as many arms as possible to fill up the bullpen – I MEAN ALL HANDS ON DECK FOR SATURDAY & THE REST OF SEPTEMBER!!! – and insert Delgado as a sixth starter until Sheets comes back.
When Sheets comes back, I would have Delgado take Hanson’s place, and have Hanson & JJ in the bullpen the rest of the way. Dump JJ in December; trade Hanson for… something.
The bats? Brothers and sisters, it’s gonna be a LO-O-O-O-O-O-O-ONG September.

Bourjos does have that great 2011 campaign to hope for though… he put up a .271/.327/.438/.765 line over 147 games (502 ABs)… 26 doubles, 11 triples, 12 HR, 22 steals.
He didn’t walk much and struck out quite a bit, but just the hope that he can hit near those numbers again is reason enough to at least kick the tires on him. Didn’t play much this year (88 games, 167 ABs) but he’s only 25 and has just 1 season in the bigs. I would consider it if we don’t get Bourn… better than Pastornicky/Cunningham or even Constanza out there.

cricket and Efrim, I think most GM’s, front office personnel, baseball analytic people, baseball scouts, et al., are pretty smart and most seem like pretty fascinating people. These days if someone doesn’t have a very high level of baseball intelligence, he or she probably isn’t going to be in those types of jobs. Nowadays if a baseball person is not pretty darn brainy, whether he/she is a GM, scout, stat person, he’s not working in a front office.
I suspect in the past who you knew and whether you played mattered more than it does now. Now that’s not good enough, though it can help. Now that world seems to be much more of the brains in the game than ever before. In the past it seems like the baseball intelligentsia was largely working outside the game. These days the industry seems to know as much and more than anyone outside the game; which is saying something because there are very smart people outside the game.

You put Bourjos out there for 155-plus games, I see no reason to expect less than somewhere close to a league average offensive player with elite defensive value.

TheOnlyBravesFan, if a team throws Bourjos out there for 155-162 games, I think there is a very good chance he could approach 3.5 dWAR, like Bourn. And I don’t know that he could repeat his 2011 offensively. That seemed a little flukey. But I think he could exceed a 1 or 2 oWAR a season over the next few season while he’s in what is likely his peak years.
