richbrave, that Ryan Buchter is a player that I find intriging. He’s been pretty successful at every level, seems to have a high K rate, good command and gives up less than a hit an inning. Do you know anything about him?

ken — complaints from those like Glenn Hubbard who said Haas didn’t allow cheering in the dugout, was a control freak and squashed any enthusiasm. A real dictator.

Now I don’t put Gonzalez in THAT category. But he’s in the same neighborhood. Despite all the hugging led by his godson Uggla, you can feel how tight this team gets at times. Different rules for different players. You WON’T win with that kind of leadership.

I don’t doubt Gonzalez is a good man with good values. But the player of today won’t buy in to micromanagement. He’s so robotic it’s destructive in some games. This team COULD make the World Series, but not with its current leadership. No way.

Hello everyone! Hanson isn’t working too hard at winning a starting job is he? Hanson should be traded, and no questions. Too much inconsistancy in his pitching, and Braves don’t need him down the stretch. Hanson is just not even a 4th man in rotation.

Oh, your just upset about the loss… you know deep down that you still like Hanson. It was just a little over a year ago how everyone thought he was our ace. He just needs to strengthen his legs and work on his delivery point and you really can’t do those things on this level. They need to send him down to get back to where he needs to be. He needs to work on his leg strength so that he can use them more to get his fastball speed back up. But he could be throwing a hunderd and ten mph right now and still be getting lit up… his fastball has absolutely no movement at all, except back at him.

The loss of Hanson’s velocity raises a red flag for me. It indicates somthing is going on more serious than a slump. If they can get to the root of his problem and fix it, he could resume his role as a middle of the rotation starter. With his age and years of experience, he should be entering his prime right now.

Hanson needs to learn to use his lower half to help generate a little more power. It looks to me like he doesn’t use his legs to help him drive to the plate. But it also looks like he may want to start doing some leg strenthen drills too.

***********
And there you have it in an obvious nutshell….while Hanson just isn’t very good these days, we can’t hit the stinking ball with any consistency. This coming week, we’ll hit .375, then go right back to .211 the next week. It really is enough to make your hair fall out…

Fortunately, giving up large numbers of runs in games has been rare of late. Of course, someone in the last day or two pointed out that we hadn’t given up more than 3 or 4 in a game in something like 20 straight? Naturally, we then proceeded to do just that.

But with no bats, it didn’t matter anyway. Chipper cannot carry this bunch any longer. His reign ends in one month. Depressing thought.

While I’m delighted that Medlen is doing his best Brandon Beachy impersonation here are a few things that have me on edge:

#1 – you now have to go back 5 series to find the Braves winning one. Certainly that will change. Won’t it? If not the Braves miss the playoffs.

Uggla – I relegate him to the bench and put Prado at 2nd and Reed Johnson in LF. Paying the man 14 mil to challenge the Mendoza line is absurd. Perfect for pinch hitting or giving Prado a breather but outside that he is hurting this team playing every game.

McCann – hate say it really but he is our 2nd best catcher. Maybe it’s blasphemy but at any rate Ross is our best defensive catcher and better hitter right now. If I’m playing to win down the stretch I would go with Ross more and have McCann spell him on occasion.

5th starter – luckily the Braves won’t need one that often but when Sheets gets back he replaces Hanson. Then if we make the playoffs both Sheets and Hanson don’t start or one goes to the pen and the other is left off the post season roster. We win with Hudson, Medlen, Minor, & Maholm or go home.

Fredi G – we all know that if Atlanta implodes again down the stretch that Fredi G becomes Fredi adieu. Get it? Seriously he said to the AJC that he was not going to be patient in September. Great! Let’s see how long Uggla stays in the lineup for starters. The Braves will probably get the 2nd wild card IMO but Fredi will have to whistle past the graveyard to get it done.

Rock on….folks we just totaled 4 runs against the Padres while getting blanked by a rookie starting his first game in the bigs. Tell me it gets better. Please.

Is there anyone who didn’t see it coming….when Chipper/Janish bungled the pop-up, was there any doubt that Hanson would implode? Then after he lazily mis-fielded the bunt, didn’t you just know it was going to be a big inning? Good pitchers suck it up and pitch out of trouble, they get past fielding mistakes. Hanson cannot do that. He proves it every start.

What has happened to Tommy Hanson’s velocity?

Injured his shoulder in June of 2011 and has not been the same since. I didn’t watch the game last night, any reason why Fredi didn’t let Hanson finish the 5th inning? I know he started to fall apart in the 4th, but I was a little surprised he took him out when he did.

3:38 Ben Nicholson-Smith: I don’t expect them to. I think the Cardinals will look for bench help and lefty relief this year. Plus, they may want to extend Adam Wainwright. That team is really well stocked with bats so I don’t see them spending $100MM-plus on Hamilton.

Speaking of pitching next year. Sheets probably isn’t signed in the off season. Maholm probably is due to Beachy not starting the year in the rotation. I’d give the ball to Delgado over Hanson in September.

Randall walked the park after being sent back to AAA, and that has to make the Braves at least a little leery.

Not sure I like the chances of the offense getting hot this weekend against those pitchers Philly is running out there. Hope I’m wrong.

Hanson still looking tradeable? And not non-tenderable if no trade partner is found? Cuz I’m thinking that Hanson might be pitching himself out of the rotation. If not for Sheets DL stint, he’d already have been out. He’s not building any value for a trade. Can’t see why any GM would give up a “valuable” prospect for this guy. Sorry, not seeing it. Hanson still looks untradeable. He’s been about as bad as JJ was.

Hanson isn’t doing the Braves any good. There has to be an alternative. Can Wren clone Medlen? ;)

When you watch Hanson, he’s got zero confidence on the mound.

We aren’t looking at a lot of 5th starts. Fredi will give those starts to somebody not named Hanson. Definitely Sheets will get 1 or 2 and probably Delgado gets a couple. That’s it. Post season time. Hopefully.
