So is there any position Prado can’t play?

Prado probably wouldn’t be very good at CF, catcher, or pitcher. SS only on very rare occasions.

A player who has started in 5 different positions in 10 games, ordinarily would be considered a utility guy. But the regular LF playing all these different spots on a team? I believe HE’s doing everything possible to win.

why is Prado on first? We have the baddest offensive first baseman in all of the minor leagues and we are going to use our utility stud? Come Saturday Mejia better be on the team.

Rotation for next year
1. Huddy
2. Medlen
3. Maholm
4. Minor
5.Sheets, or Hanson, until Beachy gets back, then
1. Huddy
2. Medlen
3. Maholm
4. Minor
5. Beachy. I would say pretty darn good Rotation. Don’t need pitching next year. Just need a LF, and move Prado to 3rd base.

Oh yeah, and Edward Salcedo is down to .236/.294/.393 on the year.

Since the MILB All-Star break, he’s hit .202/.279/.368 and in August, he’s hit .153/ .223/.353.

This has been the usual 2nd half slump for Salcedo who needs desperately to have a good 2013 to save his status as any sort of prospect, even at 21 imo.

In the announcement yesterday, the AJC expressly said the new commenting system was going to require registering and this was to upgrade the level of the comments overall. If you think the Braves blog is bad just read some of the local news blogs where even the weather becomes a racial issue in about 5 minutes.

I have not posted since the All-Star break waiting for a log-in system. I kinda thought they would have the website converted over by now. I guess I jumped the gun. But regardless, the login system is coming.

For the older people having trouble with the CAPTCHA thing, I think there is a small speaker icon which will play a word and you can type the word in. That is to prevent “non-human robots” from creating accounts to spam the blogs with spam. Even youngins’ hate CAPTCHA, so, you have our empathy there. It’s not readable on purpose.

DOB, any chance the Braves release Jack Wilson since Paul Janish has played so well in his role? Janish isn’t the most athletic player in the world, but he is 1000 times more athletic than Wilson. He makes plays look routine that Wilson struggles with.

I think with the Janish signing the writing was on the wall with Wilson. The club obviously has almost no confidence in Pastor at SS, so unless he can pull off a 2b/OF utility role, he’s on thin ice as well. We have not seen Pastor at 3b have we? I doubt he has the arm for that.

wow, please please have AJC figure out their commenting system before you bring it over here. This morning, I decided to make a comment on the new system, I logged-in via Facebook…no problem, went right in . Two hours later, I decided to make another comment (to tell them that they should have redirected pages…for example, the AJC Braves page now goes to ‘page not found” because they didn’t put a redirect in place before they changed the URL so all bookmarks, etc. are going to broken pages) .

Trying to log-in again via Facebook does, well, nothing…it literally never lets you log in. So then I decided to try Yahoo and Google as an alternative log-in, Unlike the experience before, I was sent to *another* error page telling me that I need to have javascript enabled. Ugh. Anyway, it’s a mess. Plus the text is too small. :)

Even after Uggla hit that towering home run, the very next 2 at bats he looked horrible, Dumb Ass swings at anything, hoping to hit it by accident.

This guy has no eye for baseball, cannot teach this, so he will go on swinging wildly whatever comes his way.
No slump breaker here. They will keep pitching him down and away, and he will oblige them by swinging for all he is worth(not much to Braves) and miss by a mile.

Prado has to be the team MVP this year. Bourn had a career year. FF was streaky but solid overall. Heyward looks to be over the sophomore slump and about to go on his Dave Winfield run. Chipper has thrilled and Simmons looks like 10 years of smooth glove and line drives, but Prado is the glue.

I DO care whether or not he is doing his job, and is an effective starter for this team at this time. I can’t tell you the metrics, but it sure looks like he is currently doing his job pretty well. I say ride that horse until it faulters. Just my opinion.

A spot at the top of the rotation and given 7 more starts he will easily be in double digit wins. When you combine his entire body of work for the whole season, he should garner some Cy Young votes. Maybe not win it, but a strong finish will be fresh in voters minds and should get a few.

Think of it as short term pain for long term gain. Once you sign-up, you’re done. I left for a couple of months because there was not a log-in system. If you don’t know who you are talking to or if people falsely accuse you of being some person saying vile things, what’s the point? Shaun (and others) I understand the concept of the value of a player at a given position, based on his defensive and offensive metrics compared to thers at that position, and expectations for that position. I also agree with the value of good defense, but especially up the middle.

I don’t give a tinkers DAMN about where the hits come from, or that a players offense is worth more or less than a players offense at LF (for example). For offense and team scoring, I don’t think it matters what position it comes from. If Uggla actually were hitting .270 and 30 HR, but our LF wqas hitting .250 and 15 HR, I’m fine with that.

It’s kinda like what Shaun actually does say about RBI…Individually, it doesn’t matter much (I don’t totally agree) but as a team stat, RBI matters a lot. Actually, it’s runs that matter a lot. I don’t give a rats azz who actually produces them. Just my obviously uneducated opinion.

Ward,

If I recall Hanson is arbitration eligible this year so I wonder if the Braves offer him arbitration or let him go or perhaps sign and trade, he really has not been the durable “top of the rotation” power pitcher they had hoped he would be – fastball very low 90s and even upper 80s some days is really not what they were looking for.

I doubt they sign Sheets again unless he is really on the cheap. I would expect to see Delgado fill that #5 spot until Beachy is ready. Also don’t forget Gilmartin and Teheran. Both for sure start next year in AAA and I am sure the Braves are hopeful Teheran gets straightened out. Then there is the wildcard of Zeke Spruill who is a bit older and more likely to get a fast promotion if he does well.

Next year’s third baseman is Francisco. Maybe if he has a bad start to the year they drop Prado there but Francisco’s stats when starting are impressive -> .285, 8 HRs, .319 OB and .865 OPS – all in 130 ABs… Over a full season, that is 30HRs – that is not coming out of the lineup until it is proven to be a fluke. He won’t play against lefties (his numbers are horrid there although perhaps that can improve).

I’m not sure, to be honest. I do know Carlos Franco will get the bulk of the playing time at 3rd base in Rome next year – potentially even over Brandon Drury if he repeats the level. We certainly do have lots of 3rd base options in the minors – Leonard, Terdoslavich, Salcedo, Kubitza, Drury, Franco, Moses…. – just not sure if any of them are future average big leaguers. ;)
