Cups are highly effective now. They just reduce it to serious pain now.
Soon as I saw it I knew exactly where it hit! Chip Caray said, “Not sure exactly where it got McCann,” and before they could show the replay I voiced, “Oh yeah, I know exactly where it got him!”
True story time! I became a catcher when they moved me from third base because the guy they originally selected as the catcher on the team proved to be bat blind. He kept blinking his eyes everytime the batter swung and he couldn’t catch the ball. They put me behind the plate and I did not flinch.
So, I became a catcher!
I just lauched my arse off! Just saw the TV replay of the scene in the dugout showing Medlen walking up to McCann just as he sat on the bench and gave him a hug with a joking spirit that was priceless!
I know I never wore a cup.. I would always do the fake cup check with the umps in little league would check.. haha but then again I aways played ss/3b so it didnt really matter
Heisenberg – I assure you McCann is wearing a cup but they just don’t do much on a direct hit. Might keep you from dying from pain or having to have surgery, but they just don’t stop the pain of getting hit.
After about 2 minutes when you start to realize you might have died without a cup, you’ll be very happy you did wear one.
Or, did the Braves do a very smart thing by putting him the bullpen initially and lower his total innings pitched to give time for his surgically repaired shoulder the extra time to recover to make him this effective?
If they did that i’m sure it was purely accidental, Braves management isn’t that smart.
cant have this many left handed every day players…..put yourself at an automatic disadvantage….i say get the switch hitting salty back next year(red sox seems to be in sell mode) with ross backing up and bj upton in center….righties hit righties better than lefties hit lefties….. no need to put yourself at that kind of disadvantage

Medlen – typical SoCal talent which the Braves don’t draft enough of.
Two pitches for a strike — effective.
Three pitchers for a strike — elite.
Typical Gonzalez — not recognizing this guy’s talent right away. Guy has Maddux movement and that’s not jumping the gun. Plays the game the right way.
