Hater.

Don’t think he’s as much of a priority because he’s under control for 4 more years and isn’t arb. eligible(when the long term contract talk really gets started) until winter of 2013-2014.

But maybe he’s #1 for you. ;)

Not much out of the “Heyward’s a bum and a bust” crowd lately.

He is a bum…. he isn’t hitting .300 and doesn’t have a .300/.400/.500/.900 line! ;) Doesn’t have 100 RBIs either…

Never said there wasn’t. Only stated that it isn’t a top priority. There is a hole in the rotation and 66% of the outfield is empty. That is needed in order to field a competitive team.

Never said that wasn’t a priority. Guess what? Wren has a lot of stuff to do this winter. A lot. It’s not going to be bogus trade rumors of Jair Jurrjens and Martin Prado.

With Freeman going 8-8 with 8 HR…

I think that would only apply for you. ;)

After seeing him voice his frustration openly in interviews like he has this year I doubt he’ll resign with Boston!!

Nope. ( : As I stated, number one priority is avoiding Bourn, then shoring up the rotation, then filling out the outfield, then squaring away bench, bullpen, then planning Prado, McCann and Hudson if that plan wasn’t already handled in previous moves, then signing all arb players…

I wouldn’t be talking contract with either one this year.

Me either… really bad spot with BMac, as we have to make a decision on him in his walk year. He just might want to taste that free agent water…. Maybe he’ll put up a career year next year, so we can enjoy that. Even if he has a good year, the injury history has to make one cautious of handing him multiple years esp. for anything more than 13 or so mil a year.

Terrible spot for the Braves. But, given his history with the franchise, if he has a good first half – maybe they talk contract. I can’t imagine McCann coming out and saying “I will not talk contract extension during the season”. Not off of his awful 2012. But maybe I’m wrong there.

Nats Clubhouse Troubles?

After being swept in Philly, Davey Johnson had a closed door meeting with Mike Rizzo, and could be heard shouting “You come down and manage this team” Afterward Johnson down played the vent saying he had a discussion with his boss. Interesting to note that Rizzo was there for all 3 games, and yesterday sat with Bob Boone, Asst. GM and VP Player Dev.

After the game Jayson Werth was quoted “When you’re in a pennant chase, and you’re getting to September, there definitely should be a sense of urgency”

That’s assuming he’ll get a qual-offer. I won’t be surprised to see him return to Boston. But, then, it isn’t so clear. That team shed over a quarter of a billion in contracts, if they are going in a totally new direction they could simply let Ortiz walk with no offer.

This is interesting. Does the CBA still state that a returning player can only take a paycut of what-ever-it-is? This level doesn’t seem to surpass it, but it got me thinking. If the qual is offered, and it is less than the allowable pay cut, what then?

Maintain the good quality at bats, the sharp on you’re toes defense. One game at a time. Maintain it! Let last september remain fresh in you’re minds, nothin’ taken for granted. Win each at bat, each inning if possible, then at the end, get ready for the next game. Never be satisfied until the deal is done. I wouldn’t say I’m not hoping for a trade for him, but the price will just be too high. Especially since we don’t have what they want (catching, Infield, and OF help) we will have to overpay. Not a good idea.

Just take an extra 4-7 mil on what Shields would make and get Greinke. We have prospects to get a LF or CF still.

Remember last year, he was hitting .170 on June 11, then had a little 5-11 spurt, followed by a few weeks of sputtering before he caught fire going into that 33-game hitting streak.

He had a good 7-13 spurt a few weeks ago and has been sputtering for a few weeks since that, so by my calculations he should start a 30 game hitting streak any minute now. :-)

My guess is his last start when he got shelled he was working on one particular pitch and the other team knew which one.

When he went down this year, I said he would be pitching to work, not pitching to impress. However, at some point, you want to the work to pay off in results. That just didn’t happen for him this year. But I don’t think the work on his breaking ball and on his fastball command was what led to his off-year. From what I’ve read, anyway, it was more mechanics going awry than his specific work on pitches.

In any event, the two good outings in his last three starts are encouraging, in the context that he is at least flashing the stuff that delivered a 2.53 last year. Maybe it’s just a matter of getting the kinks out, and he’ll come out of the cauldron with three good pitches, instead of just two.

I heard the Astros are already mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.

They are 10 games worse than the second-worst team in baseball (Cubs).

Will there be more interleague games next year? They’re having it year-round, but that doesn’t necessarily mean there will be more games.

We are having more AL games next year? Uggh. Why can’t we just get rid of interleague play and the DH!?!

Couple of more, to answer my own question. Next year, every team will play 20 interleague games. This year, the Braves played 18. I don’t think anyone played any more than that.

Francisco’s bat will be more exposed as a starter? If only we researched first and pos afterwards…..

Francisco has hits in 25 of the 35 games he’s started and his line as a starter is -

.281, .316, .547, .863

and as a Sub/PH is -

.158, .6, .237, .493

Braves are now 47-0 when scoring 6 runs or more, and 52-2 when scoring 5 runs or more.

One thing’s for sure: we haven’t wasted a lot of good offensive performances. When we score, we win.

Kinda’ weird that we’ve only scored exactly 5 runs 7 times all year. Have scored 4 25 times, and 6 15 times.

Sample size… can’t expect him to keep up those numbers as a starter, and he has started against mainly right-handers. Lefties kill him.

Chipper has a Strained Oblique, Not Good…That means the Streaky Roadrunner will start more. He is good off the bench but his bat will get exposed the more he plays

Who the hell is The Streaky Roadrunner? Are you referring to Francisco or Reed? Or someone else?

Francisco is hitting .281/.316/.547/.863 as a starter with 8 HR and 24 RBI (36 games).
