Just a little non-baseball question of pop culture interest: I just heard a friend’s 17 year old granddaughter use the “Woo Hoo” expression a couple of weeks ago. Just yesterday, I heard a woman in her 50’s “Woo Hoo” in the drug store. Where does it originate? Did I miss a commercial on TV a couple of months ago?

DOWN ON THE FARM
GCL – ORLANDO
Mousekateers are pecked to death 6-1 by the Blue Jays
2B TOMMY LaSTELLA [.250 BA] has a 1-4 game, triple, and a walk in his third game back from DL [back issue].
RHSP BOBBY STAR [L 2-5, 6.23 ERA] 6.0 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 SO.
Not a bad start. Unfortunately, the offense doesn’t pick him up so he wears the goat-horn’s this game.
RH’ers MIKE FLORES [4.41 ERA] and RICHIE TATE [2.62 ERA] don’t provide much relief allowing three more runs to score though only one was earned. Poor defense [3E].

Paul Janish has played a total of 12 games at 2nd base, and not played them very well
I wouldn’t call 1 error in 12 games not doing it well…. he’d average 13-14 errors a season, about the same that Uggla averages. However, the fact that he’s “only” played 12 games there isn’t encouraging.
Then again, Jack Wilson played 3rd for us last year a few times, he’s only played 3rd base for 4 games in his career, 3 with the Braves.

One of the sticks that the New York fans have begun mentioning is Bourn. THe Mets need outfielders, and someone to help sell tickets.
Heard an interview with the Mets GM on WFAN – New York yesterday, and the’re taking a similar approach to the Braves. They want players on the lower end of the bellcurve pay wise, but closer to the middle talent wise.

It’s not just errors. It’s all the other stats too, the fancy ones like runs saved above average (-15), Fielding runs above average (-9), defensive runs saves above average (-1) – They are all significantly lower than any other position he plays, especially ss, where he is obviously outstanding.

And I disagree. I think 3rd & SS are more interchangeable than 2nd and SS, but each has a unique skill set that does not alway translate to success at another position. Marteen is a very good 2nd baseman. He can play SS, but over the course of a season, I think he would be exposed at that position. Meanwhile, I am not sure I’d want to see Simba play 2nd base or Uggla play SS.

Whoever gets this Hurricane is going to get flooded like they’ve never seen. The Storm is as big as TX and it’s going to rain a long time before a 1000 mile raincloud passes over. Be careful what you ask for.
The problem with this storm though, is that they really don’t know where it’s going. It’s so big it has two eyes and until they combine and start a normal rotation (instead of of a wobble) it is impossible to tell where it’s going.

It’s so freakin’ hot that everyone stays indoors… the kids have been to the movies, karate, gymnastics, indoor soccer, etc all within the last 5 days. Lice breeding grounds.
The 4 year old is free and clear. The wife looks to be ok. The 6 year old is absolutely infested. Not good, especially since she’s the emotional one of the bunch. And a cry-puker. She gets too upset and she launches, as she did last night during her hair treatment.
At least this time she was standing naked in the bathtub. Why kids freeze when they toss cookies is beyond me, though. You know it’s about to happen… run for the sink/toilet. Instead they just look at you and barf on themselves.
