True, rich. We’ll never know, but we’ll surely debate it if we miss the playoffs, or the division title, by a couple of games.
No need. The egg-laden visages are proof enough. Heh!
August 23rd, 20127:30 pm
I kind of feel bad for the people around him. Hopefully, he won’t get too carried away, if he goes. Hopefully the worst thing he will call anyone is “Slingblade”, which is relatively mild coming from him.

” I like them taters, hum.”
August 23rd, 20127:33 pm
can you prove that brava
Prove what? That Fredi never put an innings limit on Meds at the beginning of the season? I keep up with the Braves pretty religiously and I haven’t seen anything about it until last week. Can you prove otherwise?
just wondered because I vaguely remember Frank saying quite some time ago something about limiting Meds’ inniings
August 23rd, 20127:34 pm
I wonder how Lentz is doing, knowing that Jones has a .310 BA, .388 OBP, with a .516 SLG, and a .904 OPS and 13 Home Runs this season.
Probably angering him more and more, while it’s marinating in him like a steak.
I’m not the one making an accusation, what do I have to prove?

You got that right and I’ll be first in line.
Been blistering some of the NATS blogs over yesterday’s game.
SAY, where’s the GNAT-o-phile that’s on here occasionally. I thought he’d surely be crowing over our demise in that first game.
August 23rd, 20127:36 pm
Meds didn’t have an innings limit, he just clearly wasn’t viewed as a starter as the season begun. But I’m sure they didn’t just want to throw him in the rotation and get him a heavy workload just coming back.
Can you imagine sitting at the park, watching the game, minding your own business, and the guy next to you suddenly goes of on you, calling you Slingblade and launching a perverse attack for no reason? LOL!
August 23rd, 20127:37 pm
Just because something is not “officially” announced doesn’t mean it’s not real. There may not be a set innings number the team has in mind for Medlen, but it’s unlikely that they wanted him to throw a full season with starters innings. And given that our rotation headed into Spring looked solid if not spectacular, and given Meds ability to pitch well out of the pen, it is also likely that the team was not looking at him as a starter headed into the season. They would have no reason to. Especially since he had only thrown 2.1 innings in 2011.

McCann faded last year due to injuries/fatigue God knows what else…same ole stuff this year…I admire and respect Brian and what he’s done for our Braves…but how many are confident in giving him that rich long term deal his agent is going to ask for when the time comes in 2013…especially having Betancourt coming up in the minors.
Call me a traitor to my sex, but when these guys who have done nothing but eat, sleep and breathe baseball for their whole lives thusfar….. meet a girl, become engaged, get married, then have children, that laser beam bb focus is scattered like a shotgun blast. They do not have that intense focus on the game when they are not on the field.
The older and more experienced they get, the better able they are to concentrate back on the game well enough to play well. Doesn’t happen all the time, but I think developing a full “other” life off the field contributes to a temporary decline in the game. Look what happened to Francoeur when he was here, and now BMac for the last coupla years.
He may have made a general statement, Half Empty, but I don’t recall a definitive number.
Will Andrelton Simmons be eligible for the Rookie of the Year award next year? And whats the rules on service time allowed
August 23rd, 20127:38 pm
Nice story on MEDLEN by DOB [ the man can write when he works] KRIS should have been starting all season. Tonight we have to put up with TOMMY’S 4.27 ERA. We may lose but will not have to put up with MELKY’s obsenitys.
“…Probably angering him more and more, while it’s marinating in him like a steak…..”
Chuckle…the festering boil that’s on his posterior.
August 23rd, 20127:39 pm
Except that Mac has been with his wife since they were 14. Seriously.
August 23rd, 20127:41 pm
I think PL has been here and posting in a rational way today.
He is going to the game tonight sitting in his normal seats.
Hopefully BAS will make an appearance.
I find it strange that Meds innings limit is 130, a convenient number to cover the way he was mishandled, and Strasburg’s is, reportedly, between 160 and 180. Big difference there. Is there a standard recommendation after Tommy John? Anyone know?
August 23rd, 20127:42 pm
Yeah, pretty prose whn he worls. Such a soft life just following the team and players around. Hey, GEORGE are you coveteous of his station in life?
rational and PL should never go in the same sentence.
August 23rd, 20127:44 pm
There was a gNats fan boasting on one of the side blogs a couple of days ago, rich. Don’t know if it’s the same one.
I think the team was “hothousing” Meds up to this point. Resting him well while getting his necessary workouts in, bring him in out of the pen to ease him back, let him be the bridge guy in a few games then bust him out onto the starters scene going into the final third of the season ——— and be y o n d.
Great confidence and mindset for the final push and playoff games.
Hey BAS, go over there and mug the guy while trying for a foul-ball will ya’

“….There was a gNats fan boasting on one of the side blogs a couple of days ago, rich. Don’t know if it’s the same one…..”
Missed it. Read the articles, but only comments when I think it’s a focal blog by mistake.
My problem with Braves management: they make decisions based on history and investment too much instead of performance. It took at least a year and half for Martin Prado to rightfully get a regular role. Medlen came out of spring as one of the five best pitchers, but they decided to nurse Jurrgens, Delgado and Minor for half a season. These guys are pros, earn your position or let the next guy in.
August 23rd, 20127:48 pm
That’s true, Trey. The dude is due to show up back here, anytime now, and blow a gasket.
August 23rd, 20127:50 pm
no Brava, I don’t remember a specific number either, just that they would monitor the total given previous history.
I think cab might be right, they were aware of perhaps needing a limit but also satisfied with who they had already starting. No way we will ever know.
Thanks for the pic, DOB. Hard to believe there’s a prettier park in the big leagues.
Go back and read a few of the comments, the guy is pretty easy to pick out.

I fully agree with this.

I’ve kind of thought so, too. “Trade McCann while you can still get something for him”, and the like.
Fredi said just wanted to give Heyward a rest day, facing Zito today a good one to do it. Though he noted that like with Bourn the other day, a rest day at this point of season could be just 6 innings.
If you’re wondering, Heyward is 0-for-6 with 2 K’s vs. Zito.
August 23rd, 20127:55 pm
as do most all baseball teams, if nothing else it is a cya approach, but it has pretty much always been that way.
Simmons progressing, doing some “dry swings” and throwing at Gwinnett. They’re being cautious, want to avoid setback if possible. Still looking at about 2nd week of Sept. for his return, from all indications (though they want say a specific date).
I would have to agree- San Francisco is simply gorgeous.
Joe in SoCal
Has the lineup been posted yet? and more importantly…is Uggs in it?
Why did he not give McCann another rest day?
August 23rd, 20127:56 pm
True, Half Empty.
I would give anything to be a fly on the armrest at the game with BAS and Lentz sitting next to each other
Game? Nah. Probably more eventful at their house.
Wonder what it would take to get Posey in a trade…Bethancourt, Teheran and another prospect? Decline McCann’s option for next year…
Long time Braves fan in San Francsico
Getting ready to head to the park now. Section 107…Row F. I have an extra seat (my girl has to work late tonight on a project) for anyone who wants to upgrade (I’m right behind the Braves first base dugout) for free (just would like to enjoy some conversation with a real Braves fan).
Yes–Along with McCann
August 23rd, 20127:57 pm
you guys didn’t get Fredi’s email about limiting Meds’ innings in april?
PL or at least some very similar poster is here under different names most every day. eventually his obsessions surface though.
August 23rd, 20127:58 pm
Just because his poise, pitching repertoire, not being a big guy, and cerebral demeanor reminds you of the great Maddux it does not mean yet that Medlen is anywhere close to the HOFer, of course.
Keep this up for a couple of years, and then it would be a different story.
Greg Maddux – the only guy that made it exciting to watch both the top and the bottom of the inning.
JNick – I was actually considering a trade for posey the other day. I still see it as highly unlikely, but it would seriously improve our team. Braves need “consistent” right handed pop
August 23rd, 20127:59 pm
Good news about Simmons, DOB. Janish has been great, but I miss watching him flash leather. He makes the games more exciting to watch… kinda like Meds, when he pitches.
it is what it is
there you go
August 23rd, 20128:00 pm
cab – I know they’ve been together since early h.s. , but that’s not nearly the same as marriage, the attention that new type of life demands, and then add children to the mix. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing, just a fact of life. I can’t cite any examples by name this evening other than the youngsters Jeff and Brian, but it’s a trend I’ve noticed since back in the 90’s. Off the field affects on the field with some of the young guys. Seriously.
braves getting posey or trout from angels ,
you have better luck winning the lottery

Where ya at man. There’s your chance.
thats what nannies are for
u think carl crawford is worried about his guaranteed contract?
August 23rd, 20128:03 pm
Damn……….. Bay not Bat
August 23rd, 20128:04 pm
nothing wrong with working your butt off to reap the rewards of a big time contract then sit back and relax
contracts would not be this huge if not for the fans, always rem that
I don’t know how many times this needs to be said but it is easily in the triple digits from the time Medlen was injured 8/4/10.
The conservative recovery time for a position player is a year and a pitcher is 12-18 months. Medlen had two setbacks, with arm and elbow soreness, before he pitched one inning in game 159 on 9/25/11 and 1.1 innings 9/28/11. 2 and 1/3 of an inning in 13 months.
It is obvious to anyone who has every thrown a baseball that you don’t go from being injured 8/4/10 until 4/1/12 and start a regular schedule of 5 – 9 innings every fifth day. Throwing a baseball at close to 100% 90 to 100 times every 5th day is a sure way to blow it out again. The Braves chose to gradually increase his work load as a reliever where they could control how much he pitched.
Andrelton must be getting more and more agititated as the Janish leather flashes pile up.
August 23rd, 20128:05 pm
Just wondering; with the minor league seasons finished, will Simmons head to Florida for rehab / simulated games or will they bring him along slowly in Atlanta?
August 23rd, 20128:06 pm
Interesting listening to Ray Knight during the second game of the last series..In regards to Uggla..he said that Uggla basically only tries to swing for the fence and can only hit the fast ball(rarely)..and is out on any other pitch. Fascinating look at what must be “the book” on Uggs around the league. Could this be what Jones was referring to when he said “guys need to adjust or the manager will”? Sadly, I just don’t see FG as being able to “adjust” for longer periods of time than one game.
August 23rd, 20128:07 pm
They are going to make one helluva double play combo next season… Simmons dives to his right to get the ball in the hole, tosses from one knee to Janish who makes an acrobatic leap over the sliding runner while throwing out the runner at first.
They may not hit much, but neither does Uggla.
minor league players who get called up from AAA OR AA,when the braves purchase there contract makes 75,000 for 1 month and a lifetime pension from MLB
August 23rd, 20128:08 pm
No Heyward, but yet, McCan’t and Uggly’s in the lineup. Nice one, Fredi…
August 23rd, 20128:09 pm
cricket is that your way of agreeing, like Tomahawkin’s “Co-sign” or TOBF’s “This”?
starting sept.1 not talking about overbay or batista
Suprised but pleased to see Chipper in lineup after a long plane flight.
August 23rd, 20128:10 pm
My dau-in-law won Braves tickets this afternoon sitting in the car rider line waiting for 2 of my little grandgirls. She was the 10th caller.
Woo hoo. She’s buying me a lottery ticket today too.
overay is on the roster now according to dob
Brava, he will definitely blow a gasket. He wouldn’t be Paul Lentz if he didn’t. Sometimes I wonder how he is able to wander the streets.
Sadly, I just don’t see FG as being able to “adjust” for longer periods of time than one game.
Surely not when it comes to Uggla.

I think I would rather be a fan sitting near BAS and PL, rather than a fly.
Outta here for LITTLE LEAGUE game. WE NEED A WIN TONIGHT.
David Ross is ‘The Man’ on this Braves team. He is their leader and they all look up to him. Ross will one day be a manager in the bigs and I hope it is for the Braves. Sorry to see he is not in the lineup tonight against a lefty. But I wish he was in the lineup every night with McCain used to rest him. Also, if McCain is hurt then why not rest him and let a far superior catcher play every day.
August 23rd, 20128:13 pm
hey guy, everybody ready for a big game?
August 23rd, 20128:14 pm
Murphy – Simmons to Janish to Freeman will be great entertainment for sure!! They’re “neighborhood” players. They can field anything “in the neighborhood.”
dob heyward has trouble with zito
if he did this all the time the braves could not field a team every night
him and prado are only 2 who are not struggling
considering how you use the word pretty to describe a park, you are in the right city,SF for all the closet people
Do you have your storm prep done?
August 23rd, 20128:15 pm
Janish has not been good defensively at 2nd base.
How’s the weather down there?
was not being sarcastic or prejudice
everyone knows what sf is known for
thats okay could not pay me to go to a game there
August 23rd, 20128:16 pm
Everybody but Freddi G. He is afraid to sit Mac more than one day we might win again without him.
August 23rd, 20128:17 pm
COME ON BABY YOU CAN DO IT
WE ARE LONG OVERDUE
But if you were a fly, Trey, you could fly in PL’s ears and nose and just buzz around his face irritating him until he went off on BAS and got a beat down.
You can always change back into a human after the mission is accomplished.
Money aside…I know Shaun has already stated that he thinks FG needs to have Uggs in the lineup everyday. I however, think I might actually go with someone like A Simmons or even Reed simply to have a chance to extend a rally by either a single or walk. Right now, as everyone in eyeshot of this blog knows, we have a black hole in our lineup. 7,8,9. Just replacing one of those might give us the chance to extend a rally back to the top of the order.
San Francisco is known for great food and beautiful scenery.
Hi Bat, good to see you again. as for storm it is looking more and more like it is headed to you….

“choppinmama” you given the Braves Wwwwwwwwwwwaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy too much credit to even Think they were handling Kris as a Strasburg example on limited Innings… BC… Not even Frank Wren would have that type of foresight… c’mon, They dumped JJ down into Gwinnett after Knee surgery and expected him just to come-out with Flying colors.. i mean after-all you pitch with yur Arms, Right??? Daisy Mae ??? Duh you don’t even imagine in yur wildest dreams that a Pitcher could be Bothered in his Delivery because of a KNEE problem,,,,, Duh…. yea right, Braves Mgmt had the foresight to put innings limit on Medlin, Just Not TELL Anybody… especially DOB, or Bradley… you know how trustworthy they are, to keep a Secret…. Hilarious. Otherwise Prove i’m wrong after the Season Frankie, anytime next week’ll be fine.
murph, I am pretty sure it is just a small sample size situation, but IIRC Janish has not player second well at all
