The Braves can’t seem to beat the good teams and that doesn’t bode well for the playoffs. However, this season feels similar to last year except the Braves want have a huge lead to squander. The positive news is after this road trip most of the remaining schedule is against losing teams which should keep them in the wildcard race until the end. Deja Vu all over again.

“braves are 22-26 vs. nats, dodgers, giants, pirates, cardinals, dbacks and reds. under .500, but we won 22 games! dont tell me we cant beat good teams.”

But we also lost more than we’ve won. Great, that just means that instead of getting swept in a playoff series, the Braves will manage a win or two.

You were saying?

Are you also going to show the records of all the other playoff series conducted in those five years? The same trend should hold, correct? Let me know when you have the data ready.

At some point Boras will have to adjust, don’t you think, Efrim?

The reason more and more players are signing early is because fewer and fewer older players (Jayson Werth notwithstanding) are getting massive deals and because teams are offering better deals with life-changing money earlier. I think Boras will have reevaluate his one size fits all approach.

MVPrado14

so, ncscoots, you just want them to make it to the playoffs and maybe win one series? I’m saying that if they are going to run the table, they have to show that they can beat the teams in the dance. So far in 2012, they have shown that they can’t.

“braves are 22-26″

So if we are fortunate enough to survive the regular season and make it to a 1-game playoff. We still have a 50-50 shot against those teams to win it. Or 46% chance to win the game to be more precise… ;)

So far in 2012, they have shown that they can’t.

Hey, if you want to make bold predictions on a state of affairs still five weeks in the future, who am I to say you nay?

Are you going to produce the records of the other playoff series to buttress your predictions? I’ll understand, if not.

Fine, ncscoots, you win. The Braves will be the favorite to win the 2012 World Series despite the fact that they have been handled by the other participants. That makes sense now, doesn’t it?

I think Boras will have reevaluate his one size fits all approach.

He’s made one exception if I remember correctly and that was getting CarGo to re-up with the Rockies – 7 years/$80M before the 2011 season as Gonzalez was heading into his age 25 year old season with 4 years of control left for Colorado.

Good morning DOB—–Thank you for your tireless coverage of the Braves and your daily blog.
Do you think you could do a blog on how the Braves struggle against left-handed pitching—with some stats to prove it?
I think it’s the fatal flaw of this team. Maybe I am wrong—- but I don’t think so. Chipper and even Fredi recently have alluded to how we struggle against lefty pitching.
I believe all 4 of our left-handed hitting starters numbers are way down against lefty pitching (but I don’t have the stats to prove it.

Hits well, fields well, pitches well, and makes the TEAM play well. The exact opposite of Tommy Hanson. Guys just play better for Medlen.

I appreciate the offer. We had an evacuation a few years ago, at the same time all the gas stations were out of gas, I had 3/4’s of a tank. I was gonna blow it off but thought maybe I better not. Anyway I left my house late in the afternoon, traveled about 1&1/2 miles in around 50 minutes, not using the air because of the gas. i have really come to hate watching braves when they face Zito because he hasn’t been a good pitcher for some time, all other teams beat him like crazy before and after he faces braves, he doesn’t actually have a “not great pitcher but pitched a heck of a game” kinda game against braves and they still can’t hit him at all. very frustrating to watch. i would rather watch them face someone like a verlander and get no-hit.

what is the logical thinking behind sitting heyward, playing bourn, uggla, and mccann during our worst offensive slump of the season against a guy we dont hit anyways. It absolutely needs to be asked — kelevra

First of all, it was asked (by me) and Fredi’s reply given for why Heyward was out of the lineup.

Secondly, we’ve written almost daily about Uggla’s struggles, and quoted Fredi at least a dozen times saying he’ll keep running him out there to work through the slump, as he has in the past.

As for McCann, did you really expect Fredi to start David Ross again Friday after he caught the game the night before in D.C.? And if so, why?

Last, why in the world would I ask Fredi why he’s playing Bourn? I’d be laughed out of the dugout (or office, or wherever I asked that question).

Bourn has been one of the better leadoff hitters in the league this year, and before Friday he’d batted .321 with a .438 OBP in his last 14 games, with six extra-base hits, seven RBIs, 11 runs and five stolen bases in that period. So why, I ask you, would the Braves not play Michael Bourn? Just because he was 0-for-6 previously against Zito? Really? Who would you rather have played center field and hit leadoff than Bourn, and why?

Let’s just keep running him out there and hope he continues in the same vein he has to this point. Get ready for another loss tonight.

Good chance these BUMBS get swept this series.

They will be sub .500 by mid September, its going that bad. Its getting so bad they could still lose second place in the division.

I Tip my cap to a week of incompetent baseball on the part of the Braves.

Real bad baseball. Its not good enough.

Good day all
TOMMY HANSON is no good anymore, he should be DLed or sent to G-BRAVES then traded for a bat boy. In his great wisdom,Why the hell was FREDI not playing JASON? He is the only one hitting well now. WOW I said that?

Has the September collapse started?

The Braves may just reel-off five wins in a row. That, in fact, would be closer to the team’s pre-All Star break pattern. Drop some in a row, and then win some in a row.

Not ideal, but not a collapse.

George – As usual, you’re absolutely right. Heyward is the one player that’s hitting. Prado didn’t have five doubles and a single, two RBI and three runs scored in the Nats series.

The way the BRAVES play on the left coast I refuse to watch late night games out there. I watched the LITTLE LEAGUE GAME and part of REDS game, then went to bed. It was a smart move the way the BRAVES played.

How did Lowe “steal from the fans”? His contract was for $15 million. He didn’t want to suck. He didn’t try to suck. He just sucked. But it’s not like he said “I’m gonna suck it up tonight just to give it to the fans!!”
