Brian McCann is no where close to hitting as well as Dan Uggla at this point. There is Alex Gonzalez…10 feet of dirt and Uggla….then 50 feet of dirt and Brian McCann.

The Phillies are 21-17 since the break. 1-5 vs. the Braves, 20-12 vs. the rest of the National League.

I’m just glad Medlen’s pitching well. I bought my wife a Medlen jersey two years ago and I’m just glad he’s finally establishing himself. I bought my dad a Hanson jersey, might not have been the best choice in hindsight.

We really need to get rid of this 6 man rotation. Its not helping Sheets or Hanson and we really need every start that we can get from Hudson and Medlen at this point. We were out-played and out-managed last night. What a crap performance.

It is so frustrating when two guys that should be putting up All-Star numbers are playing worse than a A call-up would play. Over the course of the season, they are really costing this team. McCann was terrible at the end of last season as well. His struggles may not be due to a hurt shoulder. He looks beyond out of shape and I know he is naturally a big guy.

right now at this moment, this team is playing terrible baseball. They are making way too many mental mistakes and they just aren’t executing when the opportunities arrives.

They had a bad week. Geez louise, they’re playing better than .600 ball in the second half, and plenty here will ignore that totally for the chance to cry in their beer over 1/26th of the season. It’s always about the worst with some folks here, and nothing else is of consequence. What a bunch of bleepin’ numbletards. I’ve built furniture that knows more about baseball.

HANSON is not inspiring much confidence these days, and i believe his days as a BRAVE could be numbered if not for JURRJENS who will not be back. HANSON’s financials keep him going thru arb unless a trade offer is too good to pass up this winter.

The batting change I wanted was to replace UGGLA’s not HEYWARD’s. I guess with McCANN in because ROSS has been playing recently, the smart thing to do was keep UGGLA’s RH bat in the line-up. Well, at least he got a hit.

I would prefer ROSS behind the plate, PRADO to second, REED JOHNSON in left, and UGGLA to the bench, but that defeats the purpose of the RH bats thingy doesn’t it?

How about PRADO to third, ROSS at catcher, REED JOHNSON in LF, andf TYLER PASTORNICKY at 2B the next time CHIPPER’s out and the stats says “RH’ers only.” That worked fairly well in the RH scenerio.

So… are we getting close to giving up on the “try to win the division” battle cry and switching to the “please please please just hold on to one of the Wild Card spots” stance?

Still a little more than a month to go, but man o’ man it’s going to be tough to catch the Nationals. Even if they played below .500 ball the Braves would still have to put together a September for the ages to win it. Could happen, but as things stand I’d be mighty happy to just get the one playoff game.

Looks like ERNESTO MEJIA is being rested for the September call-up. LYLE OVERBAY has taken his slot to finish out the season.

Too bad. I really wanted him to have 30 HR, 40 2B, and 100 RBI’s, but in the business of baseball that’s irrelevant of course. He was losing power the past couple of weeks. And he played in almost every game this season. The aches and pains of playing a full season might have been catching up to him. So a 10-day break might be just what the doctor ordered.

Of course, he might have had a family matter to settle, and will be back in LAWRENCEVILLE to finish out the season. In which case, the roster in GWINNETT will be slightly altered. Either way, the rest will do him good. He’ll be a big bat addition come the call-up dead-line.

The greater problem is that the Braves have done most of that .600 against weaker teams. Great for now but what good does that do once October rolls around?

If they can’t beat teams like LA, Washington, and SF , then them “making the playoffs” is of little consequence.

Once again, it seems that a lack of leadership is going to kill the Braves. There are far too many mental mistakes and questionable decisions for a team that is 17 games over .500. Captain Fredi is heading us right for the iceberg and probably won’t veer off until it is too late – just like in 2011.

I want the Braves to make the postseason in the worst way. I really, really do. But part of me (the part that likes reality TV) is anticipating the drama that another September collapse would bring with a little bit of… glee is the wrong word to use here… but something like that.

From Fredi’s job security to the team rebuilding over the winter, it would make for one of the most interesting offseasons in recent memory. I like the offseason just as much, if not more, that the grind of the regular season… the Winter Meetings is one of my favorite times of the year.

Braves are currently on pace to score 741 runs this year, 100 more than last year.

At this time, the team is hitting .253/.325/.401/.726

Last year, the team hit .243/.308/.387/.695

It’s an improvement…. Walker is helping!

Opponents are hitting our pitchers a little better this year than they did last year, but we can “blame” that on the loss of Beachy and Jurrjens, plus the early season ineffectiveness of our pitching.

You don’t seem like the vase and candle-holder type.

Prado and Heyward should receive extension offers this winter as well. That’ll certainly be something to track.

CBS’ Jon Heyman reports the Indians are “resigned to the idea” they won’t be able to sign Shin-Soo Choo to a long-term contract, and will “listen again to trade offers” this winter.

According to GM Chris Antonetti, the Indians have tried to extend Choo “multiple times” over the past few seasons, but the 30-year-old outfielder has given no indication he’s willing to sign a long-term deal. Choo remains under team control for one more season. Antonetti says it’s not a given that the Indians will unload Choo this winter, and that he could be shopped next summer or allowed to walk and fetch draft pick compensation. Batting .286/.369/.469 through 518 plate appearances in 2012, Choo sounds as good as gone from Cleveland.

Boras. Every other position player seems to be locking up with their current team, yet players that are represented by Boras continue to hit the free agent market when the teams contractual control runs out. Jacoby Ellsbury and Shin-Soo Choo are the latest to hit the market.

They will be facing teams that have kicked them around the field in 2012. Take it for what it’s worth, but to me, that doesn’t bode well for a deep run

Too bad for the Nats, then. 0-3 vs Dodgers, 2-3 vs Pirates, 2-4 vs Orioles, 0-3 vs Yanks. Poor babies.

(I hope most here can see the sarcasm dripping. Regular season records against teams in the playoffs, compiled as far back as three months ago, don’t have a lot to do with forecasting results of a playoff series.)

Efrim, have you ever played OOTP (Out of the Park Baseball)?

It’s probably the deepest baseball simulator on the market today. Seems like something you would enjoy.

I play it every offseason… sometimes I try to make the moves that I think the Braves will make and then sim to see what the outcome looks like, other times I make the outrageous moves that people on here suggest and watch with amusement as the team falls apart.

If you’ve never played it, check it out: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/index.php

MVPrado they’ve built most of those 71 wins against the 2nd tier teams.

most teams are 2 tier, so every team with a good record has done that.

braves are 22-26 vs. nats, dodgers, giants, pirates, cardinals, dbacks and reds. under .500, but we won 22 games! dont tell me we cant beat good teams.

Glad to know I’m not the only one laughing at a computer screen right now. Sitting here imagining what I think T-hawkin to look like,…with candles lit holding a bottle of Wild Irish Rose singing “The End of The Road”

I hate to say it, but McCann appears to be past the point of no return this year.

Here’s predicting this off season he decides to take seriously what it means to be a professional athlete, and not just a professional hitter. I’m expecting to hear lots of talk in spring training about his new training regimen, diet, weight loss, etc.

Assuming his shoulder problem gets cleaned up, I think he’ll come back strong next year.

Nice little 2013-4 free agent class there…. though I’m not seeing too many guys I’d like here…. Prado, BMac (depending), and Choo are about it.
