good work Avilan
Long time Braves fan in San Francsico
Just made it back home. If the Giants sweep us, we’ll probably leave town behind in the Wild Card race.
August 24th, 201212:36 am
It’s such a shame to stay up late and see this…. thank goodness I’m not tired!
Still don’t see why we had to travel west and play the next night, while the Nats get to travel to Philly and get the off-day. CONSPIRACY!
I suppose Avilan pitched pretty well tonight.
August 24th, 201212:37 am
Boy I sure would have thought after the first inning we’d have more than 3 hits and 1 run off Zito.
Say those prayers!
1 game playoff with the giants….who do you think they will pitch?
@Animus: loved growing up with Skip, and quickly grew to appreciate his dad Harry when I moved up here, but have never liked the youngster. He’s defnitely no “chip off the ole block”!
August 24th, 201212:38 am
Sorry cab. Assumed it was “implied”.
And I know it’s real. I just hate it as an excuse for losing. Because it’s not a good one.
Zito is nasty tonight.
And Pastornicky is suppose to take over at 2nd for Uggla? Don’t think so…
Wow… listening to the song “Make them Laugh” on “Singing in the Rain” The irony is not lost on me.
I really am amazed at the fact that there are so many people who have nothing better to do late at night than to show how totally clueless they are…
Around The Horn
I didn’t get a chance to say thanks last night, as I got off the blog soon after I asked my question.
But thanks greatly to those who helped answer my question about how to put text into a bold or italicized format!
August 24th, 201212:39 am
Lastly, Zito is just a younger version of Moyer. He’d beat this lineup tonight
You can’t win if you don’t score. Doesn’t matter who pitches.
On a different note, Scott Boras has 3 clients playing for the Braves. Hanson, JJ and Bourn. Odds the Braves have one of his clients playing for them next year????
wee that was fun. little tyler should playing in the sanbox.
The next pitcher in their rotation, the guy who has 4-5 days of rest.
The A Bomb
August 24th, 201212:40 am
Giants played later and flew as well. No excuses.
Good coaching prepares teams for any situations.
Look at any winning team and the coaching staff is totally overmatched.
You can’t win if you don’t score. Doesn’t matter who pitches.
I’ve been seeing that posted quite a bit lately….not good.
Although the most egregious one seems to have disappeared, along with his multiple monikers…
“TM”, in my infinite and sometimes questionable wisdom, I would compare it to watching a train wreck, or “rubberneckin” on the freeway.
Uggly As Sin
August 24th, 201212:41 am
I’m staying up to see Uggla hit. I like the ironic and I would really get a kick out of a solo shot with 2 outs in the 9th inning, trailing 5-0. That would be so UGGLA!!
even though the Nats could probably care less about the game in the standings they lost yesterday … they’re 3 Braves outs away from gaining half of that back.
Games like this make me wonder if these stretches of lackluster play, mental mistakes, and prolonged malaise would ever have happened under Bobby Cox?
More of the same for the Braves in the 8th inning.
August 24th, 201212:42 am
Okay, enough of the jet lag…cabravesfan said she wasn’t using that as an excuse. And I’m sure many of us have experienced it ourselves. I flew from TN to London, and felt like crap the first two days afterward.
The Braves’ batters should be embarrassed, 3 freakin’ hits off Barry Zito? I get the getting to the hotel at 4am local time etc,. but really, 3 HITS?.
Can’t wait to hear the ‘quotes’ after this game.
Jimbo, You might be wrong.
August 24th, 201212:43 am
say what you want, i am a c-mart fan.
August 24th, 201212:44 am
5 years since they’ve won a game flying west???? Excuse, not valid for a professional team. Thanks Joe Simpson, but I expect more.
Barry Zito pitches 8 shutout innings, and Tim Hudson’s last outing he gave up 4 runs in the 1st inning.
The next thing you know Dan Uggla is going to suck and Melky Cabrera is going to lead the league in hits.
What’s that? …… oh…. never mind.
c-mart takes the ball.
August 24th, 201212:45 am
Now one Mr. “Chip” Carey has brainwashed one Mr. Joe Simpson. Twas easy to do apparently.
I was considering not playing poker tomorrow and instead going to the game tomorrow night. However, Ben Sheets will probably get rocked…Freeman will still be hung over….and our offense will just be offensively obscene! I’ll just watch the game on the tv at the casino while I’m playing.
Zito looks like he’s coming out to bat….going for the shutout.
As much as some alleged people around here thought Cox was a donkey this type of effort would NEVER have occurred under Cox. He would have tried to do some things.
Gonzalez manages like he follows a script and allows the Braves to get schooled. Team is docile, never fired up and will never reach its potential until they get a quality coaching staff in place.
August 24th, 201212:46 am
It’s a 5 run lead for the Giants, no big deal to use C-Mart here…. he needs to get work, and it’s better than letting him get it in close games. Just don’t trust him in those.
Zito’s gonna go the distance, it seems…. Kudos.
agree…guy just eats innings…not always perfect but guy just eats innings
c-mart? That the pitcher the braves put on layaway before they signed him?
usnavyvolfan, yeah. That was a response to someone that said we would win if Medlen was pitching.
zito just did one thing BMFT is incapable of doing..
a sac bunt.
August 24th, 201212:47 am
usnavy: I fly a lot and for whatever reason never have much problem with jet lag. Even those ridiculous 15-hr or more non-stops to Tokyo or Seoul. It seems to affect some more than others. Evidently all of the Braves were affected tonight.
“1 game playoff with the giants….who do you think they will pitch?”
Just a wild guess, I mean out of left field, but im going to go with……..a left hander.
If we get shutout tonight, it’ll be our 11th time being shut out this year…
Zito only has one complete game this year, and that was in his first start (@ Col, and he actually shut them out .. odd in that stadium)
Peace and Serenity
August 24th, 201212:48 am
Illini Brave—As long as pa and pa Cox are enjoying themselves I am happy.
“Just a wild guess, I mean out of left field, but im going to go with……..a left hander”
If the Braves are able to use Meds, they probably beat the lefty. For some reason they’re just playing better when Meds is pitching
will we even put up a fight…
August 24th, 201212:49 am
Time to shut down
Good night blog
Actually A-Bomb you’re wrong. Cox waited just as long to make changes. It’s the exact reason I was personally tired of him and why I had zero interest in one of his understudies.
But even I have to admit, in the end I’d just simply like better players to root for.
Of the everyday guys that are likely to return, Freeman, Prado and Heyward are the only ones “worth” bringing back. Everybody else is either worthless or cost too much for their production…. or both.
Simmons obviously falls into that category. But anytime you have a guy who’s hands get injured, I’ll wait to see if it affects his game.
This is what happens when you sit your best player
Those missed opportunities hurt a lot.
I’m sitting here trying to recall if the Braves have had a game this year when they’ve been this anemic on offense?
I truly cannot remember them EVER looking this bad. Zito hasn’t broken 85 more than a handful of times – lots of looping curves, but….wow.
August 24th, 201212:50 am
Nice start to the inning.
I DON’T fly often (and I don’t drink dos Equis when I do), but last time I had a super long flight was from here in VA to Bahrain. It was about 15 hours, and when I got there, I about died. Slept like a baby ’till I had to get up to fly to my ship. But, yeah, i can see how after awhile you get used to it.
August 24th, 201212:51 am
please rewrite your story of how this inning ends Braves ……
cab leaves and we get a rally! Don’t come back yet, don’t #jinx us.
Dang, dang, keep Zito in.
August 24th, 201212:52 am
“Time to shut down”
Must have been what the Braves bats said when they arrived at the park.
Braves will not score 4 runs this series. Even the Sheets magic is over and Maholm cant keep ball in the park and with the worst manager in baseball there will be no playoffs. Cards and Dodgers will beat us out. THANKS FREDDI.
August 24th, 201212:53 am
bout time for that double play
Yunel's Frosted Tips
August 24th, 201212:54 am
Open up a new can of excuses for these clowns……I don’t want Hansen starting or in my bullpen…..let him sit out the rest of the season like Kawakami did………..or let Uggla whip his ass and put him on the DL………it would be the first thing Charles Atlas did to help us in a long time….
That hit just tied him with Roger Cramer w/2705 didn’t it? (Chipper’s hit) 63rd all time I believe. Next up, Billy Williams at 2711.
@N8: I know you have this almost irrational hatred of BC, but his teams never quit on him, and he would never let players get away with lackadaisical effort and mental mistakes. (see Andruw Jones, Jason Marquis, Adam Laroche, Yunel Escobar).
August 24th, 201212:55 am
6 spot coming up….
You will NOT shut us out tonight (Braves Mantra) – Good for FF.
Nice shot, FF!
Train Wreck Bystander
Makin’ some noise in the 9th!
YEA!!! Rally has started. Let’s go team!
Great swing by Freddie.
August 24th, 201212:56 am
Nice to see Freeman get a hit. He’s looked as bad as Uggla and McCann lately
Wow – replay showed FF thinking 3!!!! Really?
Even if I thought FG was bad, which I don’t, he’s hardly the worst… what about Bobby V in Boston??
Please pinch hit for Dan Uggla… OMG
NO N8 — For once YOU ARE WRONG.
Cox may not have been a genius, but he had his players intense and ready to go. That’s where his strength was. We may have lost — but Cox would bunt, hit and run and steal to get something going.
Gonzalez does NOTHING.
Cox’s strength was his motivation. I saw what I saw from 1978-80 and 1990-2010. Saw it all. he backed his players on and off the field.
Gonzalez is a robot WHO DOES NOTHING. Sorry, disagree and won’t change my take.
Braves will not score 4 runs this series.
Already got 2…. and Dan’s about to give us 2 more, aren’t you Dan?
August 24th, 201212:57 am
And he comes the automatic outs..
Pleeeeeaaaaaaaaaaase throw him a FB – only pitch he’s hitting right now (Uggla)
…and was FG the worst manager when the Braves were 20 games over .500?
come on uggla…even pitchers get hits sometimes
usnavy: wasn’t trying to brag or anything, cuz it seems to be a biological thing, but every time I travel overseas with business associates, I hit the ground running with way more energy than everyone else. Not totally sure why, but being ADHD probably has something to do with it
At least Dan can’t hit in to a triple play with only one person on base…
Wow – replay showed FF thinking 3!!!! Really?
he musta thought he was as fast as Bourne
August 24th, 201212:58 am
swung at ball 4
August 24th, 201212:59 am
Come on Dan….
Swung at ball 4. What a joke
still leading the league in walks
Wow – Uggla just missed that FB (strike 2) – full count and he………walks. Gotta give him credit, good, disciplined at bat for him.
Pinch hit Ross
Well, well, the signs of September 2011 are coming early.
The Braves are falling out of the WC, never mind the division. A disgraceful week of baseball because as I said earlier in the year they are not that good.
It was fun while it lated but the Braves played over their heads for a while, but this team is not good enough to hold a playoff spot. They cannot beat the good teams.
So sit back and watch this thing crumble — again.
did Chip really just make a name pun …..
How big are those wasted opportunities early in the game looking now?
August 24th, 20121:00 am
Can BMac come through here? Please?
cant pinch hit for janish b/c pastor has already been used…i guess marteen can play short for an inning
Why would you walk Uggla – the easiest strikeout in our lineup?
Well, he got the walk….. and here comes BMac as the tying run. Still no outs…. BMac might have a track record, but with the way he’s hit, not all that confident.
Nevertheless, let’s go BMac!!!
Well, at least he’s good for another one of those $125,000 walks. Apparently that’s what they are paying him for this year.
2 down, 4 to go for my 6 spot
It is encouraging to see the Braves mount some offense and avoid the shutout. Further, three walks from Dan Uggla is good to see.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
