Sure would take a little of the pressure off if the Braves could get a couple more runs right here. Don’t want the pen to even sniff blowuing such a well pitched gmae by Meds.
If Medlen isn’t a big part of our rotation plans next year, the Braves are hopeless
I don’t think the Braves have anywhere near enough payroll money to sign enough pitchers to put Medlen back in the pen. It’d probably be about $100M for five aces right? He’s just that good
One of the radio announcers (the one who isn’t Don Sutton) predicted that the Braves would be back in Nationals park come playoff time, and that the Braves would be up two games to none on the Nats in the playoffs.
If the Braves pick up the option on Hudson (you can only assume that they will)
That leaves:
Hudson
Hanson
Maholm
Minor
Medlen
Delgado
Teheran
Gilmartin
and even Jurrjens (who I assume they will DFA)
Somebody out of that group (not named Hudson – because of 10/5 status) will get traded to help fill the void left by Chipper and Bourn leaving.
My guess is that Hanson or Delgado gets moved. Perhaps both?
They were apparently willing to move Delgado for a 2 month rental of Dempster.
They now have Maholm under contract through next year. So there is no real legit reason to believe that Wren won’t look to move Delgado to another team to fill a 3B, LF or CF void. Especially if it’s for somebody that is under control.
Might even be willing to move Teheran if it’s for a really good everyday player.
But if Medlen isn’t in this rotation until the Braves lose control of him? I’m not sure it’s the franchise I want to root for.
medlin is amazing. hes earned himself a spot in the rotation for sure. werth got an error…tough error but he got there and it couldnt have happend to a better guy, except Melky
From the “DID YOU KNOW” Column- smUGGLA strikes out more than once every third time at bat. If he maintains his current pace, with 39 games left, he will end up with 189 K’s. So, he makes about $80,000 per strikeout this season (and he’s one of the worst 2B fielding percentage too). Nice work.
u were singing a different tune about uggla 2nd half of last season and 1st half of this season.. he might turn it around. he is simply too far out front. he has that unbelievably light bat and when you start being out front, that light bat makes it WORSE. I wish he would go to a much heavier bat until he works this out…..that would slow his swing down and keep him back a little longer by doing so…been there dont that myself
If Meds isn’t in the starting 5, I’m not watching this team anymore. I think the battle comes down to Sheets vs Hanson, with the edge going to Sheets. I feel only slightly more confident in Hanson’s ability to pitch effectively right now than I do in Jurrjens.
“N8, Maholm has an option for next year. Braves have not picked it up yet.”
Rick C, the option WILL be picked up. It’s for 6.75 million bucks. If for nothing else it will be picked up to trade him. But make no mistake about it. The Braves will exercise their right to “control” Maholm this winter.
How is it that Medlen can’t escape this ridiculous notion that he is not a starting pitcher. All he does is dominate when he is in the rotation, yet some continue to think of him as more of a reliever. Right now Medlen is the best starting pitcher on our team and if we get into a one game wild card playoff I want him on the mound.

If Medlen gets one more out in the 7th, it will mark 2 starts in a row that he’s gone 7+ IP and allowed 0 ER.
Wanna know how many times Tommy Hanson has done that?
Once.
September 3rd & September 9th…… OF 2009!!!!
Once last year in July he went 7+ IP allowing only 1 ER or less in both.
That’s pretty much it.
