I like the fact that the Braves took the smile off of Detwiler’s face tonight.
He was all smiles the last game — and used his smile to show the Braves up.
He’s not smiling now!
August 22nd, 20129:15 pm
One of the reasons Medlen was in the pen this year was because he’s coming off of Tommy John. It’s the same with the Nats limiting Strasburg’s innings, except the Braves had more need for Medlen in the bullpen anyway with depth in the rotation. It made sense all the way around at the time.
Another stinkin DP! Ugh!!
Of course David Ross hit into a double play to end the rally.
Atta boy, Ross!
That was huge…
August 22nd, 20129:16 pm
hurt yet again getting RISP and getting squat.
The Nats’ pitchers are making good pitches in key spots. These DPs can’t all be the Braves’ hitters.
Should be able to lift one to center–but I’m expecting too much…..and, I am like a lot of other fans; I’m a double play ‘hater.’
August 22nd, 20129:17 pm
With one out why didn’t Fredi try something creative to get the run in — like a safety squeeze?
He had a speedy runner on third in Jason.

Hey, phil, my son is liking law school so far, although they are still pretty much taking care of administrative stuff. I sure do miss him.
i bet you do! Glad he’s liking it.
At least the Braves are into their bullpen. Still lacking clutch hitting (one time doesn’t count). Oh well, Meds holds them here and the offense can start next inning.
Wow. Thanks for sitting McCann, Fredi!
August 22nd, 20129:18 pm
Typical McCann effort right there….
Make that Ross.
Bench em both!!
August 22nd, 20129:19 pm
Backdoor Slider, I agree. I’m tited of lookinng at the smug smirks on all the Nats’ faces. Hope we can take this one tonight and wipe them off.
Too Big To Flop
August 22nd, 20129:20 pm
The Man is out of the lineup. Freddi must be a HATER. He hates Uggla and takes him out of the lineup. I want him in there every day.
Thank goodness Meds has movement on his pitches tonight
August 22nd, 20129:21 pm
Is Martin okay?
August 22nd, 20129:22 pm
Not a great idea by Prado – nobody backing him up, catch it on the bounce. Lucky Werth decided to stay at 2.
The effort is appreciated and Prado hit his chin pretty hard there. And that little display by Werth was a bit much.
Smiling Is A No-No
People can’t smile with a 7 game lead? Do you want them to act like they are hitting .208?
Uh? What universe are you in?…………Last time I checked, Strasburg has been starting all season.
August 22nd, 20129:23 pm
Prado half dead now…….great play backing him up though.
Return Meds to the pen….
Id rather lose the game than lose Prado….be alright brother! no concussion! Man he as a player!
NEVER cared for Werth….had to be him….AWESOME try prado
phil that was hilarious….that wasl also a strike 2 pitches ago i thought
August 22nd, 20129:24 pm
Man! Harper is hard on the eyes. Hideous.
the medlin to the pen comment was hilarious
The A Bomb
Boy, if the offense had Medlen’s attitude…..
August 22nd, 20129:25 pm
dont hurt my feeling to see harper in a slump
August 22nd, 20129:26 pm
When are the Nats shutting Harper down?
2-2 in 5,4,3
Prado was werthless on that dive….
Ha ha, he he….
Bourn woulda been all over that…id had put him in maybe
August 22nd, 20129:27 pm
Shame that bat broke, cost him an out. Still, turn 2 and all is well.
Dang! Bourn would have caught that.
Runnuzzz @ da cornas…..pooh
Meds hitting 92 on the gun…
Better than all starters isn’t it?
August 22nd, 20129:28 pm
With Michael Bourn in CF that is an out.
probably not, broken bat hard to judge
August 22nd, 20129:29 pm
Sheets is 92-93 isn’t he??? About the same anyway, but, they’re the two fastest.
should have called that pitch to werth 0-2 forever
August 22nd, 20129:30 pm
Game about to get away from us?
Talk to him Roger!!!
4-2 in 5,4,3
August 22nd, 20129:31 pm
yeah Sheets hit 93 a lot earlier, no so much lately.
looking real bad here
Now wait for the HP ump so you can tell him about missing a call.
come on Meds – this is where Medlen can really step up as a starter and as a clutch pitcher. Big series, in danger of being swept, bases loaded and 1 out
August 22nd, 20129:32 pm
time for a glass of tang—and some Pablo Cruise
The Nationals are just plain good.
One more Melden.
Yes! One more.
now he just needs to get “that guy” to get out of this
ok, that worked.
Giant Salami again?
LaRoche looked like a Brave there.
August 22nd, 20129:33 pm
LaRoche with his best Mac/uggly immitation….
I went and checked my dictionary – looked up Medlen, just one word:
huge rally by Medlen there.
August 22nd, 20129:34 pm
that worked too
that’s why he’s been so good as a starter this year
Around The Horn
How do you italicize text on this blog — or put text into bold print? I’ve tried a couple of ways and neither works.
That’s how an Ace does it.
Desmond is dangerous.
Nice job Meds!!!!!!!!
Yes sir! Nice, Medlen!
August 22nd, 20129:35 pm
well done young man!!!!!!!
oh fredi, fredi pick up the phone please.
craig kimbrel 4 OUT SAVE IF NEEDED
The Nationals did their best Braves impression in that situation and I am glad for it.
August 22nd, 20129:37 pm
Folks as far as I’m concerned, you’re looking at the 2013 Brave opening day starter. Dude just wins.
If they put him back in the bullpen, the entire staff should be fired. Somebody needs to be traded to make room for Medlen in the rotation.
It’s really that simple.
His command of all of his pitches, the fact that he sits at 89-92, and isn’t afraid to throw breaking balls and off-speed pitches in ANY count to ANY hitter….
Closest thing we’ve seen to Maddux since…… Maddux.
Not saying he’s going to win 300 games and be in the HOF.
I am saying he will be the Braves best starting pitcher for the next 2 or 3 years if given the chance.
I think you misspelled “Lou” not Lol
August 22nd, 20129:38 pm
If Fredi and Wren even think about putting Meds back in the pen, they need a lobotomy.
Gil In Mechanicsville
Around The Horn to bold (, ) to italic (, )
It’s like a replay with Janish at bats all series. Walking back to the dugout shaking his head.
August 22nd, 20129:39 pm
well, that did not work
string (no spaces) italics
string (no spaces) bold
bold to end
August 22nd, 20129:40 pm
@Around the horn……You must first make application to the bloggers guild
rats, you can’t get there from here….
Just put those characters together – didn’t think it’d work with spaces in their the first time – sorry.
Lil' Barry Bailout
August 22nd, 20129:41 pm
“Uggla, McCann scuffling at tough time for Braves”
That “time” is called the 2012 baseball season.
August 22nd, 20129:42 pm
got to keep strugla on the bench again tomorrow dont cha think. zito will carve that guy up like yesterday swinging on one knee
@ChattTownBrian….You hanging in tonight? Glad you’re with us.
It won’t let me type in how to do it.
Use the Shift Comma () . Type your string in, then put a /em surrounded by those same less than and equal than signs.
For Bold, use strong instead of em.
August 22nd, 20129:43 pm
How will the Braves blow it tonight?
You know it’s coming.
Hot Bars In Atlanta
Whether it’s “LOU” or “LOL” it sure is better without “UGGLA”
90 pitches for Medlen entering the seventh, Bourn in center, Johnson to left, Prado to second
‘teen ‘teen in the infield makes me happy.
August 22nd, 20129:44 pm
Looks like Medlen is the Braves #1 #3 starter.
Pale Rider GA
Liberty Media in the black, Uggla in the black, radio/tv announcers are homers, Wren and Freddie make more than most of us combined- meanwhile we’re asked to watch another ho-hum season. Let the Yanks have ‘em.
August 22nd, 20129:45 pm
Jeez – ok last try
Use the Less Than sign and the Greater Than sign. Inside the two, use em for italics and to end the italics, use /em.
For bold, use strong and to end the bold, use /strong.
Me too, Sopheee. That’s where he belongs.
Espinosa’s mouth drives me crazy. What is he doing there?
How does that guy Reed with that crap on his chin
you can type just an i for italics and just a b for bold. no need to use em or strong if you want to cut down on typing
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
