Why don’t they keep stats on managerial moves and line-ups? We could then objectively measure just how lame the skipper performs.
In related news, I saw today where Uggs has the lowest BA of any NL starter. After a while shouldn’t shame take hold of you so you ask to be left out of the lineup? Hell, Chipper’s headed to the HOF but he ain’t too proud to ask for a day off.

If you sit them in favor of the backups, you’re probably not going places anyway, really.
Seems to me that we’ve been doing pretty good so far this season being handicapped with them up to this point.
All of this.. “Let’s hope tonight is the night he breaks loose, don’t change anything” crowd is ridiculous, I mean seriously.. letting him sit the bench to better the club is a good thing. Hurting the club for one or two people isn’t a good thing.

Hurting the club for one or two people isn’t a good thing.
The idea isn’t for the betterment of Uggla and McCann. If Gonzalez thought it would help the team to sit the players, he would. So far, he seems to believe that playing them is beneficial for the team, at least in the long term. I tend to agree.

A win tonight would be nice. The Braves need to regain some momentum and get back to their winnings ways. This roller coaster they have ridden most of the season is still quite bumpy. They have lost four consecutive games after winning four consecutive games. Time for a new winning streak to being tonight.

I think, if the Braves want to make a run, they are going to need Dan Uggla and Brian McCann. And the only way to get them right is to let them play through it..
That may be so. But what if the Braves let them play through it, and they struggle for the rest of the year? Wont the Braves be second guessing themselves?

Brian from SC – I agree the team needs McCann and Uggla. McCann is obviously hurting and I think a DL stint would help a lot. As far as Uggla, I’m all for sitting him for a couple of games so he can clear his head and have a couple of stress free days. We all know Uggla isn’t struggling on purpose and this has to be hard on him. Let him chill for a couple of games, get renewed, then see what happens.

I think the result would be the same as if Ross and Johnson had been inserted as starters. The Braves’ overall goal is to win a championship. To do that, I believe they need Uggla and McCann to play and play well.

This team is not likely to make the playoffs if changes aren’t made. They have lost four games in a row because the offense is barely existent. The pitching and defense are above average, but waiting on Uggla and McCann to snap out of their funk when it’s the 22nd of August just doesn’t seem like a wise plan to me.
McCann may benefit from a stint on the DL. Even if it doesn’t help his shoulder, the rest couldn’t hurt him. I wonder if the cyst could be drained and maybe give him some relief? Not thrilled about bringing Boscan up, but I’d rather have a more rested, if not more healthy BMAC down the road.
Uggla, however, is a head-scratcher. The dude is lost and could probably use a few days off to clear his head. I do think the team will get better results with Martin at 2B and Johnson in LF for a few games. It can’t hurt to try something, just like last season when they brought up Constanza and sparked the team. It was short-lived, but it worked for a time.

I’ve read plenty of quotes from Mac- and which beat writers have said he never sticks around? I have seen them mention how Mac will always put undo blame onto himself after games and answer any questions asked.

Is Pastornicky’s defense so bad that the Braves can live with Janisch (despite his recent decent AB’s)? If that’s true, the same can be said of Uggla who botched the play Monday night, then popped out (AGAIN) in a big spot last night. Pastornicky, if he hasn’t lost his swing by sitting for so long, might be a better option in the 8 spot if hitters 6 & 7 are “scuffling.”

Guys on XM MLB channel a couple of hours ago decided to compare this Nats team, player by player, to the 1991 Braves (who won the pennant). At nearly every position, they either gave the Nats the edge, or a “push”. (edge to Justice, very slight edge to TP) Upon their player by player comparisons, I had to pretty much agree.
YOU KNOW, THERE WILL REALLY BE NO SHAM IN FINISHING 2ND TO THESE GUYS, if that’s what happens. I also believe that we can go all the way from the wild card position, 1 game “play-in”, or not.

Actually, batting average is not meaningless at all – maybe not as important as once thought, but hardly meaningless.
Batting average is the base of On Base % – if you hit .300, you’ll never have a sub .300 OBP.

The Braves are 42-29 in those 2 1/2 months. I don’t see how you can believe Uggla is the one killing the team when Bourn, Freeman, and McCann’s recent struggles have left weak links scattered out all over the line-up. It’s a total group effort of crappy offense right now that’s killing the team. Not solely Dan Uggla. If you’re gonna sit ones that are struggling, it will be a mass substitution that we haven’t seen since Nolan Richardson used to replace 5 with 5 during the 40 minutes of Hell years.

Seriously, he needs to start hitting some more (Duh), and maybe take less walks…. Bill Shanks IIRC wrote an article about how Dan’s new approach at the plate is costing him hits.

Hard for me to explain, but I’m sympathetic with McCann. He’s been a “Brave prototype” since was a rookie, an all star, silver slugger & team guy. He’s out of shape & out of kilter. He has some non baseball issues to deal with…the ‘new father’ syndrome. But, he has to turn it around early next season.
Uggla is a waste…just 2x batting avg. over .250 in 7 yrs., avg. fielder. Never admits that he’s just “lost” it. This ’streaky’ crap is a lie…2 years is one hell of a streak. Fredi?? who knows..he’s just a shill for Wren. Who knows what he really thinks or knows??

Bourn has not been looking very good against lefties lately. His splits prior to coming to Atlanta had to be better than they are now. I am not a Bourn hater (I do like the guy) but he will be too expensive and whoever they find for CF next year needs to be a RH bat. This lineup needs some balance. Nats throw 2 lefties followed by Giants with 2 lefties. Gonna be a rough week.
