Kimbrel didn’t pitch in a game this series yet, but he did pitch at least 2 innings in the bullpen on Mondya…warming up over and over and over, during that extra inning game.

-Why did it take so long to use Medlen as a starter? Numb nuts Fredi and Wren couldn’t recognize real talent when it is right there in front of them.

Ok – I understand that, but I get Fredi waiting for the Braves to score a run before bringing in Kimbrel. Not like they didn’t have chances almost every inning.

But the backlash that Fredi would have gotten (not the blog) if Kimbrel pitches the 12th, Braves score in the 13th and Martinez for the save?

Kimbrel has 46 appearances this year – each one for exactly 1.0 innings. He WILL NOT be brought in with one out in the 8th, 2 outs and back out for the 9th inning. Not his comfort level, and not how he’s been used all year.

Great win tonight. FG actually did the lefty-righty thing with the line-up, MEDS had one of the five best starts of any pitcher this year, and PRADO was not to be denied.

BTW, who’s the better player, PRADO or GREGOR BLANCO? Remember that convo old-timers?

And I think going forward, we begin beating the brains out of ROSS DETWILER. Notice he went almost exclusively fastball tonight? Through the first three innings he threw 98% fast-balls, 96% thru five. But, he fooled no one…..well, not PRADO anyway. Say your prayers DETWILER, next time you take the bump against the BRAVOS. We got your number.

Animus — ABSOLUTELY NOT.

There is no such thing as a “big game” to Gonzalez.

“Hey — we’re trying to win a game,” said Gonzalez.

That was a huge game and to roll him out in a tie game against the 3-4-5 guys could have been EASILY explained. Total pass. Would have been a message to the guys that we’re throwing our chips in the middle. Doesn’t matter that Martinez got the side out. Your best needed to be in there.

You’re chasing 4 games and you’re playing the guys ahead of you.

This guy Gonzalez couldn’t manage by the seat of his pants if his life depended on it. Everything is scripted. That’s why Gonzalez will NEVER manage the NL All-Star team. He lets opponents bring the game to them.

Sure Animus, you asked for my take. Now I’m not a Gonzalez (or any other former Marlins) guy so you won’t probably get a fair take, but he lost me last year with some of his ridiculous strategy.

And as many know around here I’m more of a speed, hit and run, move the lineup guy so you can imagine how his strategy drives me nuts. And not demanding Uggla change is the deathblow.

I understand why Medlen wasn’t starting earlier in the year, he’s just back from TJ surgery. Because his inning count is low this year, we’re not hearing about shutting him down like they’re doing with Strasburg.

Could he have been starting earlier than 31 July – uh, yup. But he’s only going to pitch 125-130 innings in the regular season. About 80% of max recommended for first full year back. Next year, no limit!
