Wow, Uggla with the statement at bat there saying up yours to everyone !
I agree Jay Dubu. Uggla needs a real break, no PH, no nothing.
The A Bomb
Wait — DOB called the dugout and asked for more blog hits. Explains it now.
Kimbrel didn’t pitch in a game this series yet, but he did pitch at least 2 innings in the bullpen on Mondya…warming up over and over and over, during that extra inning game.
Time to say goodbye
Kris Medlin= Fastball, change up and every once in a while a curve ball. Future Maddux?
August 22nd, 201210:23 pm
Sorry Capt, but Uggla really is as bad as he looks. You can’t do what he does with mirrors.
August 22nd, 201210:24 pm
sit down Suzuki
Wow – just looked at Medlens ERA as a starter – 0.83 – really???? Unreal, 2.03 overall, but as a starter, just unbelievable.
Uggla has to get a real day off with no appearances whatsoever. Bringing him in to strike out in the 9th doesn’t really help him mentally.

August 22nd, 201210:25 pm
Where’s my man? Just looked in and I don’t see his name, actually had someone read the lineup thingamajigee to me. I hope this changes tomorrow. They can’t win without my man in there.
Does Kimbrel even get rusty?
Jeez, this kid is a total freak of nature!
So we have pop guns and colt revolvers in the ‘pen yet we left the rocket launcher in the ‘pen Monday night…..
Now why is it we can’t win a big series?
Uggly can’t be helped mentally….
August 22nd, 201210:26 pm
How many would agree that Medlen is the true ace of this staff?
I never fault the employee. I fault the boss/manager who hired him and put him in the job. Wren played poker and lost big.
Oh well, can’t win em all. Nats are still up by 6 games. Have fun in SF for the next 4.
Catch us if you can!
striking out the side is just so fun to watch any inning but especially in the 9th to end the game
makes that long flight tonight a little more comfortable
Yay for winning again. Keep it going in SF tomorrow.
August 22nd, 201210:27 pm
Nice job Bravos!!!!!!!!!!Should be a pleasant flight to SF!
Braves Win! Great job by Kris tonight.
Next stop- My side of the world!!
I know it’s early but with a 1 game playoff, I trust Medlin pitching it.
if just 2 or 3 pitches went the Braves way this series I think they’d be going for the sweep right now instead of trying to avoid it. Just a few pitches was the difference
A Bomb – which inning would you have used Kimbrel in on Monday? And why? Never had the lead, all the other pitchers were throwing shutout innings – please explain how his inning would have ensured a win.
First blog since returning from surgery and couple weeks in the hospital.
That Medlin kid is something – the little engine that could. He reminds you of the craftiness of Maddux and the gamer personified by Lemke.

Who’s this posting at 10:25? Hey baby, you better back off right now!!!
Good to win one again.
Good nite all…

Hey Phil–We can help him!!

Braves scouts picked Kimbrell in the 33rd round in 2007. Can you believe that? He turned ‘em down and got 3rd round next year. Medlin a 10th round pick in 2006. Where are the first and second round picks?
Typical Idiot Blogger
Medlen’s my boy…until he has a bad start! Then he sucks! That’s how I roll babee!
August 22nd, 201210:31 pm
Freeman can’t do a regular high five or a handshake. Either a hug, a weird dance, or whatever he just did with Fredi G. there. Weird dude.
Would have brought Kimbrel in the 12th to face the 3-4-5 guys, to be honest and went to Martinez after that.
Maybe Uggla needs a heavier bat
Less you think that Medlen doesn’t have a final five starting spot, he would overtake Hudson if it were between the two. Check my posts from the past two years. This guy has it. It Wren doesn’t sign this guy long term, he is an idiot.
Good win. Now they need to start a long winning streak.
Glad to see ya, beachcomber…glad you’re well.

The A Bomb
August 22nd, 2012
Jerry — I honestly didn’t know how you were able to make such an outlandish prediction. You should be banned.
Sucks to be right.
With three K’s, Kimbrel ties Tim Hudson for 3rd on the staff in strikouts, with 82 (in almost exactly 1/3 the innings). Somebody really ought to rub Huddy’s nose in that.
nice to be back in the win column, and we played them tough the whole time. hopefully this is the start of a new streak.
medlen is awesome, and so is prado.
Enjoy the flight to SF rally killer- please sit the entire game next time
August 22nd, 201210:33 pm
BF54-Maybe Uggla needs a heavier bat
No, just a bat without a hole in it.
-Great to see Uggla’s butt on the bench.
-Why did it take so long to use Medlen as a starter? Numb nuts Fredi and Wren couldn’t recognize real talent when it is right there in front of them.
-Can’t get excited when the Braves win only 1 out of 5 against quality teams.
I guess Fredio is justly starting a search for a professional counselor to stay with and shadow Uggla’s every move–even upon bathroom visits; regretfully, I recommend pro supervision….there is something during the course of his day that has turned his neurons to frost—comments/suggestions?
August 22nd, 201210:34 pm
you are paddin’ your stats when you are pickin’ on Uggla Jerry
Ok – I understand that, but I get Fredi waiting for the Braves to score a run before bringing in Kimbrel. Not like they didn’t have chances almost every inning.
But the backlash that Fredi would have gotten (not the blog) if Kimbrel pitches the 12th, Braves score in the 13th and Martinez for the save?
Kimbrel has 46 appearances this year – each one for exactly 1.0 innings. He WILL NOT be brought in with one out in the 8th, 2 outs and back out for the 9th inning. Not his comfort level, and not how he’s been used all year.
August 22nd, 201210:35 pm
week;y check in, Yep bout right where I figured this GUTLESS bunch of cowards to be … fading again!
August 22nd, 201210:36 pm
lmao at ross… I don’t know what cathartic means but it was nice
Can’t be helped nolie.

are you serious? they are playing 1B and RF.
@Nerdville—c’mon guy–let us dream just a bit….don’t throw that goofy stuff our way!
August 22nd, 201210:37 pm
Off to bed. Everyone take it greasy.
Ross not knowing cathartic? I understand that, went to UF and Auburn – fine institutes of higher learning
Great win tonight. FG actually did the lefty-righty thing with the line-up, MEDS had one of the five best starts of any pitcher this year, and PRADO was not to be denied.
BTW, who’s the better player, PRADO or GREGOR BLANCO? Remember that convo old-timers?
And I think going forward, we begin beating the brains out of ROSS DETWILER. Notice he went almost exclusively fastball tonight? Through the first three innings he threw 98% fast-balls, 96% thru five. But, he fooled no one…..well, not PRADO anyway. Say your prayers DETWILER, next time you take the bump against the BRAVOS. We got your number.
Brave New World
When the Braves are ailing, nothing like giving them their “Meds!”
August 22nd, 201210:39 pm
Nats are having a very good time of things, but they have NOTHING that can compete with Kimbrel. ‘Nuff said.
Animus — ABSOLUTELY NOT.
There is no such thing as a “big game” to Gonzalez.
“Hey — we’re trying to win a game,” said Gonzalez.
That was a huge game and to roll him out in a tie game against the 3-4-5 guys could have been EASILY explained. Total pass. Would have been a message to the guys that we’re throwing our chips in the middle. Doesn’t matter that Martinez got the side out. Your best needed to be in there.
You’re chasing 4 games and you’re playing the guys ahead of you.
This guy Gonzalez couldn’t manage by the seat of his pants if his life depended on it. Everything is scripted. That’s why Gonzalez will NEVER manage the NL All-Star team. He lets opponents bring the game to them.
Bill in VA
August 22nd, 201210:40 pm
Made the game last night in DC, 1st row between Braves’ dugout & home plate. Uggla looked lost out there soon as hegot to the on deck circle. You could see it in the eyes.
A Bomb Ok – I don’t agree with everything you said, it makes sense, but I had no problems with the BP management Monday. Agree to disagree, ok?
August 22nd, 201210:41 pm
No sir. Heyward and Freeman were 2007. Brett Devall and I hunk Tyler Stovall were 1 and 2 in 2008 when Kimbrell was drafted the 2nd time.
August 22nd, 201210:42 pm
Kimbrel needed that inning of game action, just to keep his arm active.
August 22nd, 201210:43 pm
Wow hunk? How about “think” autocorrect?
Sure Animus, you asked for my take. Now I’m not a Gonzalez (or any other former Marlins) guy so you won’t probably get a fair take, but he lost me last year with some of his ridiculous strategy.
And as many know around here I’m more of a speed, hit and run, move the lineup guy so you can imagine how his strategy drives me nuts. And not demanding Uggla change is the deathblow.
August 22nd, 201210:45 pm
how many starts typically required to qualify for era lead & stuff like that?
Heyward hit .500 (7 for 14) in this series, but didn’t score a run, nor knock in a run. Out on an island.
August 22nd, 201210:46 pm
Thank you all for the thoughts and prayers today. Good night.
Christ I can’t get it right. Sorry DAP meant to quote the other guy.

August 22nd, 201210:47 pm
Nice try, hillbilly.
You know you once loved you some Tyler Stovall.
August 22nd, 201210:48 pm
I’m wrong on lots of stuff, but I was right, with others, at the beginning of the year when I wondered why Medlen was not starting.
He single handedly won this game in the bottom of the 7th.
He’s our ace. Period.
If you don’t start him in the one game playoff, you’re an idiot.
August 22nd, 201210:49 pm
tiger – Don’t know if it changed, but it used to be an inning per game played…
For pitchers to qualify for era, etc, they have to haved pitched 1 inning per team game, so they equates to 162 innings regular season.
August 22nd, 201210:50 pm
Didn’t there used to be another blogger named Bay Area Steve on the blog a long time ago?
holy chit its BAS
It took a damned correction post to bring you out of hiding? What the hell, man?
“If you don’t start him in the one game playoff, you’re an idiot.”
What if he starts 162? Or 161? Or 160? Am I still an idiot?
August 22nd, 201210:51 pm
“Didn’t there used to be another”
Guy was a jerk. Got so bad he was calling out the better contributors here…
how many PA’s with RISP did heyward have this series?
August 22nd, 201210:52 pm
I understand why Medlen wasn’t starting earlier in the year, he’s just back from TJ surgery. Because his inning count is low this year, we’re not hearing about shutting him down like they’re doing with Strasburg.
Could he have been starting earlier than 31 July – uh, yup. But he’s only going to pitch 125-130 innings in the regular season. About 80% of max recommended for first full year back. Next year, no limit!
Bay Area Steve:
If you don’t plan better than that, yes, you’re an idiot.
Time to go back to the 5-man. Now.
August 22nd, 201210:53 pm
Do we need a .350 hitter with RISP? Constanza, who went 7 for 21 last three games. Just saying…
I ain’t read much lately, but I did catch your kid on the field. B. E. A. utiful, sir. I think I enjoyed it more than you did.
August 22nd, 201210:54 pm
Braves signed Kris Medlen 6 year/$100 million contract tonight. First ever #4 pitcher to get a deal of that length and size. Good for him!
August 22nd, 201210:56 pm
How do I plan? Do I lessen the rotation today for a possibility that only exists in tomorrow? I get your sentiment, but I don’t follow its employment.
Medlen’d take his every turn, and not one day short, if it’s me. If he misses the decider, well then, so be it.
Ballsy performance by Medlen
BAS – I don’t expect you did
August 22nd, 201210:57 pm
hillbilly, gotcha. i was looking at that trying to figure out what i said wrong.
anybody who has ever read efrim here knows 2007 was the last draft worth a dang thing.

Darn tootin’. The first time. Or the second time. Or even the 1152nd time…
(Just kiddin’, Ef. Kinda…)
August 22nd, 201211:01 pm
He said “ass.”
Kevin McAlpin @KevinMcAlpin
Chipper (on Medlen): “He’s got Doggie’s (Maddux) presence out there on the mound – what a great time for him to have a great start because we needed it bad”
August 22nd, 201211:03 pm
Is that what it’s going to take the rest of the season, seven or more shutout innings?
I mean, a win is a win but you gave up ten runs in three games to your division rival and lost two of three.
Shoulda won the series, Braves.
The Nationals are not better. No team is unbeatable. They just play better.
Come on now.
August 22nd, 201211:04 pm
Kevin McAlpin @KevinMcAlpin
After the broken bat over Medlen’s head, David Ross asked him if he wanted him to check his pants for the camera
