Shortstop Andrelton Simmons will remain in Atlanta during the Braves 10-game trip to Washington, San Francisco and San Diego continuing to rehab his right hand. Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said he is progressing but still hasn’t been cleared for baseball activities. Simmons is six weeks removed from breaking his fifth metacarpal in his right hand, but it’s looking more like an eight-week recovery now and possible mid-September comeback.
“We’re progressing but slowly,” Gonzalez said. “They’ve (X-rayed) it every 6-7 days and it’s healing. We want to make sure it doesn’t take a step backwards if we push him too hard. But I think you’re seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.”
