The Braves traded for shortstop Paul Janish strictly because of his strong defense, so they wouldn’t lose much in that area while rookie standout Andrelton Simmons recovered from a broken hand.
The Braves traded for Janish for his defense while Andrelton Simmons was on the DL, and the fill-in has been everything they'd hoped for and more.
Janish has given them what they anticipated in the field, but provided more than expected lately with his bat. He had three hits in Friday’s 4-3 win against the Dodgers, including a pair of key singles when the Braves tied the score in the eighth inning and won in the 11th.
The night before, he had two hits, two RBIs and a flashy defensive play in the ninth that helped Kris Medlen finish off a shutout against the Padres.
“I appreciate him,” Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said. “The hits, those are great … but I appreciate the hell out of him defensively. The stuff he can do. The relay to cut the runner out at the plate with two outs [in the fourth inning Friday]. Nice game on his part, and I know him and Walk [hitting coach Greg Walker] have worked hard to get a swing where he’s not an out. And he’s not by any means. And like we always say, he’s not here to win a batting title, he’s here to help us win on defense. And he’s done that. Whatever we get offensively out of him is a plus.”
He’s only hit .227 with a .303 on-base percentage and six RBIs in 32 games for the Braves, but Janish has a .273 average with 12 hits in his past 12 games.
“I haven’t been swinging the bat as bad as maybe it looks like,” said Janish, 29, who was playing for the Reds’ Triple-A affiliate before coming to Atlanta in a July 14 trade for minor league pitcher Todd Redmond. “I’ve been hitting the ball hard at people and whatnot, and having decent at-bats and just not getting the results.
“On a night like [Friday], when we really couldn’t get much going offensively, to be able to come up with some key hits at key times, that’s obviously a good thing.”
After going 18-for-95 (.189) in his first 28 games with the Braves, he’s 7-for-15 (.467) in the past four, including three multi-hit games.
“He was humongous [Friday],” said Braves catcher David Ross, who singled with two out in the 11th, before Janish singled to put runners on the corners and set up Juan Francisco’s game-ending pinch-hit single.
“You know [Janish] hits the ball good if I can go from first to third,” Ross cracked. “He made some great plays defensively. And I feel like Janish is in every at-bat. I know the numbers don’t show it, but he makes a lot of contact. He rarely strikes out and he hits the ball hard. Early on he had a lot of tough luck, and [his hits Friday] found some grass.”
Gonzalez said Saturday that a mid-September return for Simmons is more likely than early September. The rookie will stay behind when the Braves go on their 10-game trip that starts Monday, and continue to work with a Braves physical therapist and hand specialist to regain the strength and flexibility before he can begin a rehab assignment.
In the meantime, the Braves are pleased with the work Janish has done as a fill-in. He’s not the hitting threat that Simmons was proving to be, nor is he going to make as many spectacular plays as the kid from Curacao. But he’s been more than adequate for a team that has the majors’ best record (29-11) going back to July 3.
“I know he’s been swinging it pretty good,” Gonzalez said. “And not just getting hits, but big hits in important moments. When you look back, those are the type of players that are winners, championship-type players…. And he makes every play defensively. He helps make our pitchers pitch counts [stay lower]. He makes all the routine plays.
“And I’ve come to appreciate him. When you talk baseball with him, he’s sharp. He knows the game. In some situatiuons where we have to pinch-hit for him, it’s a one-run game and we have Hinske and Francisco to double pinch-hit for him and the pitcher’s spot, and he knows the game, he’s not going to be [upset]. Soon as that situation comes up, I look at him and he [nods]. You don’t have to explain it to him.”
• For the home folks: He said this week would play as many of the remaining home games as he could, but Chipper Jones is doing more than just being in the lineup. Talk about giving the home fans something to remember, check out these numbers: In his past 26 games at Turner Field (since June 26), Chipper has hit .389 (37-for-95) with 13 doubles, seven homers, 21 RBIs, .454 OBP and a .747 slugging percentage (1.201 OPS).

Chipper says he'll play as many of the remaining home games as he can in what remains of his farewell season.
That stretch includes 11 multi-hit games, a two-homer game (on Friday, when he got his 2,700th hit) and a five-hit, four-RBI game.
• Tonight’s matchup: It’s Ben Sheets, making the seventh start of his comeback, against Dodgers righty Aaron Harang.
Sheets went 3-0 with a 0.50 ERA and .200 opponents’ average in his first three starts, with 13 hits, 15 strikeouts and five walks in 18 innings. In three starts since then he’s 1-2 with a 3.60 ERA and .325 opponents’ average, with 26 hits, 13 strikeouts and three walks in 20 innings.
Harang is 1-3 with a 4.53 ERA in 10 career starts against the Braves, including 0-1 with a 6.38 ERA and five homers allowed in four starts against them since the beginning of the 2010 season. He got no decision and allowed six hits, three runs and four walks in six innings of a Dodgers loss to the Braves on April 24.
Harang is 3-2 with 3.95 ERA and solid .208 opp average in seven starts since July 4.
Brian McCann is 12-for-23 with two homers against Harang, but McCann is not in the lineup tonight. Check the story I’ll be filing separately in just a bit for more on that situation. Fortunately for the Braves, Mac’s backup, David Ross, is 4-for-9 with three homers against Harang (yes, that’s a combined 16-for-32 with five homers by the Braves catchers against Harang).
Also, Chipper is 7-for-18 with two homers against him, and Dan Uggla is 9-for-26 with two homers.

• Let’s close this with a tune from one of the most underrated songwriters alive, with a great voice to boot. William Elliott Whitmore’s got the goods. Here’s ’s “Field Song,” which you should hear by clicking here.

“FIELD SONG” by William Elliott Whitmore
Write this down, and don’t forget
That the best of times aint happened yet
The gilded age has long been done
And so many lost when the west was won
Let’s go to the field were gonna do some work
Spend our day digging in the dirt
We’ll hope for rain to follow the plow
And this piece of ground is a homestead now
This little piece of ground is a homestead now
Three square meals and a living wage
Reminds me of the good ol’ days
Before the manifest destiny of the factory farms
When those cut throats came and burned down the barn
Underneath the black locust tree
There’s a shady place that waits for me
To rest my bones and to rest my mind
I’m gonna rest right here when I die
Write this down and don’t forget
That the best of times aint happened yet

Why sit BMac? How about a .063/.211/.063/273 over the past seven days? It’s almost as bad for the past 2 weeks.
He may feel like he can play, but at some point, Mac has to ask himself if playing is going to help or hurt the team.
Rather see him sit, rest and HELP the team.

I really think you folks are making much ado about nothing regarding Mac, his shoulder and his manager. Fredi made his call (remember that when a player says he’s ready, many – including Bobby – will hold ‘em out another day). If Brian wasn’t upset about sitting at this point in the season, I’d really be worried. The players are not revolting against the skipper. I’m not FG’s biggest fan, but good grief…

Count me as one who believes that you need to be strong at short even if you have to sacrifice offense to do so. I was not a fan of the Pastornicky experiment believing that his defense was too suspect to count on every day at short. I, along with some others here, was right. Not trying to sound cocky, just a fact.
When Simmons got the call I was ecstatic! I loved his glove and was surprised by this bat. When he was injured, I felt the Braves chances at post season were damaged. When the Braves acquired Janish, I was like “who?” Within a few games, I was a fan. Any offensive contribution would be gravy.
I agree with what Janish says about his batting average. The guy seems like he’s hitting better that that. He makes solid contact, unlike some speedster who just slaps the ball.
Janish has been MORE than I could have ever expected when he came to ATL. Although I believe Simmons has more upside, I would be comfortable with Janish at SS for the rest of the season if Simmons had problems coming back this year.
Count me as a Janish fan.

Mark Bowmen The decision [to rest BMac] seemed to have more to do with the recent struggles of McCann and the fact that Ross entered the game with four hits, including three home runs, in nine at-bats against Dodgers scheduled starter Aaron Harang.
Has anyone other than DOB taken a look at BMac’s numbers against Harang? Sheesh!…If that’s seriously the main reason he’s sitting, that really annoys me. I mean really really annoys me…

the difference between a roughly 400 OBP hitter like Chipper and a 300 OBP hitter like Francisco has so far shown himself to be over an entire season could easily by 30 runs scored. Plus OBP includes the homers a guy hits, so most of the time when Francisco is not hitting homers he will be making a lot of outs.
I’m afraid though that he might start at third next year, but if he does so there will be a noticeable fall off, and if we lose Bourn too( almost a forgone conclusion it seems) we are going to be a lot worse hitting team. It would behoove them to win this season

The way Francisco has improved his game since he has been here who says he cannot improve his OBP to .320 and take a few more walks.
He seems like a coachable young guy & there is room for improvement. I don;t know what he will do over a full season but he deserves a chance.
We are not signing a David Wright type, so Juan has worked his way to getting a chance.
Of course there will be a fall off from a healthy Chipper, how do you really replace a guy of his caliber anyway.
If we get .240 to .250 BA/.310 to .320 OBP/22-25 HR85- 90 RBI and high 20’s of doubles from Juan, no way we can complain. And note the value given that we will not pay him that much.
Don’t give up on retaining Bourn, they will try though it won;t be easy.

Was he this good defensively with the Reds????? I don’t know.
He did have one yr when he hit .260 and had a respectable OBP, think it was in 09 or 10.
Janish would have been a regular SS for half of the teams in MLB back in those late 60’s and through the 70’s, before it because such an offensive position.

Mac was starting to slug again till the latest setback. Uggla does have a decent OBP and power numbers but that long slump was grotesque.
Like improvement from both Heyward and Freeman, better yr from Marteen and a real good yr from Bourn.
And the pitching got better after a slow start.

Just read the blog on McCann not happy to be out of the lineup. I think I had the same cyst he does but I completely tore my labrum front and back. The cyst in the groove as he describes it pushes on a nerve to a muscle in the back – the infraspinatus. The nerve pain is tremendously painful and McCann will get atrophy of that nerve.
If the labrum is just frayed the surgeon (Dr. Andrews I presume) can go in arthroscopic ally and just drain the cyst. That will be a temporary fix because if he also does not repair the labrum the cyst will likely return but the labral tear wil greatly increase the surgery and recovery. The longer Mac waits to repair it the more arthritis will build up from it as well. I hope it is his left shoulder or Mac will be in trouble as a non – DH player. I had surgery 4 months ago and am still not cleared to do squat. I cannot even imagine throwing overhand right now

Then I read back and see we had Mac on the bench – Not healthy but still better than Yawnish and Francisco at the dish.
4 outs to go with 2 guys on, down by 5 and we let a 200 hitting defensive specialist hit and then we hit Flabby before Mac?

Those wondering about the D.Ross-Hanley Ramirez tift Friday, Ross caught Hanley looking down at his signs. Asked what the hell he was doing. Hanley tried to say he was just getting in the box, that he needed time to get in the box. Ross told him if you need time ask for time, but don’t look at his signs. Told him it was a good way to get hurt, etc. The Dodgers TV feed showed Hanley clearly looking down to get the signs.
But Ross said tonight when I asked him about it that he didn’t have a problem otherwise with Hanley. It didn’t carry over to tonight.

I say Minor has a pretty good game tomorrow. But the Dodgers proved something tonight. When you have power bats like Kemp, Ramirez, & Ethier, you take take a game where you’re otherwise being handcuffed, and you can wreck it with a clout or two – especially during playoff baseball, where a dinger is magnified.
I know the Braves have Heyward, Freeman, and Chipper (to a certain degree). The power loss of Uggla and the shoulder miseries McCann has endured lately portends to some serious concerns heading into September.

Bobby: Well that should still be on management… I mean look at what they’ve given him for a team. Outside of Altuve, J.D. Martinez, and a few other pieces (Maxwell) he has a AA roster… Schafer can’t hit, he’s lost his slugging 1B, he’s lost his closer, one of his SP, and a 3B. His catcher isn’t great, his OF has been mixed and matched all year, and the bullpen is full of minor league arms trying to pitch in the majors. He might not be a great manager, but it’s awfully tough when you’re handed that sorry excuse for a roster.

I think that Bourn has been great this season, but I don’t think he will ever have a year that would be worth what he will get in the future, to a middle salary team like the Braves.
You are talking about almost 20% of the payroll to a leadoff hitter with a below average batting history.
Look how terrible it worked out with Crawford who had a much better previous career than Bourn has had.
15 or 16 million for 5 years is tops IMO, and I think that most here think that too.

Bottom line is Bourn is a real good player, but just that,a perenial 280’s hitter with good D and a lot of stolen bases.I don’t know what the K record for lead off hitters is, but he has to be near it.To me he is worth around 8 to 9 a year for 3 years.I know he will get more because of the market.

At this point probably Bourn.
If Mac bounces back healthy and near his old levels next season, I would prefer Mac.
The problem is that the decision on Bourn will be made while Mac is still up in the air.
That is assuming that they will pick up his contract, which I think they will do since there is probably a health reason for his poor play.
I would not give either one of them much more than 15 million

Hanson and Sheets were throwers at one time and they were successful because they had fastball clocking 95-97 Now that they have lost velocity they can’t have the same success with a 88-90 MPH fastball. They are similar pitchers now. Mirror image of eachother. Yesterday Hanson gave up homeruns and today Sheets. If Sheets had a 95 MPH fastball he probably would have had swing and a miss on those would be homeruns. Sheets and Hanson both have to realize that they don’t have that fastball anymore and have to reinvent themselves.
In Hudson and Medlen you have pitcher’s they don’t need a 95 mph fastball.
Minor is a lefty so that is a totally different story.
Beachy is a thrower. Once he loses his fastball the guy will also be down hill.
Ben Sheets gave us 4 wins and I think that is all we should expect from him.
SNEAKY PETE
August 19th, 2012

I agree that Sheets and Hanson need to make adjustments. I think Tommy is already trying to do that, Sheets probably not yet.
I think Beachy is more than just a thrower though

August 19th, 2012
4:15 am
Imagine Smoltz losing his 97 MPH fastball and becoming a 89 MPH guy. Noway would he have much success. Like wise Kimbrel imagine if he becomes a 90 MPH guy?
I had a feeling that something was wrong with Beachy early in the season because we were used to seeing him throw 95 96 last year and this year he was throwing 91 92. Even though he was succesful you had to wonder where did that velocity go?
I don’t think Sheets can adjust it’s too late for him. He is at the end of his career and Hanson needs to develop a sinker or a cutter at this point to make himself into an effective 89 MPH guy. He won’t be able to do much with his fastball and curve ball.
Veer
August 19th, 2012
4:20 am
With Beachy Surgery route was obvious. He hadn’t pitched that many innings in the minors and initially was a reliver. The guy stressed his arm last year and that was a continuation this year. His fastball was slower and his K rates were down. His arm wasn’t used to the innings that he was pitching. National’s are making a great move with Strasburg in shutting him down.
Beachy probably doesn’t come back with the same fastball of 95-97. If he is at 92 range then he has a chance to be succesful however if he goes Hanson and Jurrjens route and has a 89 90 MPH fastball then I think he is just a Hanson waiting to happen.
Beachy was probably suited to be a RP and probably would have made for a great set up man or even a closer

Last night’s approach was flippin pathetic, I’ve never seen a pitcher fall behind so many guys and still produce a quality start. So many guy’s swinging at the 1st pitch or on 2-0, 3-0 counts…. Harang had more balls than strikes but they refused to take advantage of his control issues.

Good to see Hanson at least keep the team in the game on Friday night. Starts like that won’t kill his trade value heading into the offseason. Although, if he’s sent to the bullpen, that’ll hurt it some. But…it’s about putting the best five out there in September, so if Tommy isn’t that, so be it.

Bourn with a lead off walk, Prado drives a double to score Prado, Heyward comes up takes 2 balls (Harang is clearly struggling) but swings 2-0 for a lazy fly ball failing to move runner over, Intentional walks Chipper after falling behind 2-0, Runners on 1st and 2nd and Freeman up, pop up on 1st pitch…. Uggla comes up and draws a walk, bases loaded and Ross battles to a full count and swings at what looked to be ball 4. Heyward and Freeman hurt us bad that inning. Gotta understand there is a struggling pitcher on the mound and to make him throw you a strike or 2.
That’s frustrating as hell. Then once the Dodgers have batting practice with 3 consecutive homers the Braves are only able to draw 2 more walks even tho Harang continues to fall behind just about every batter. Or were swinging at the 1st pitch.

Anyone who thinks Janish is a bad player has no appreciation for defense.
Now Pastornicky, he is not a very good player in my book, at least not to date. No power and not a good defensive player, he might be a suitable hitter in time but has a long way to go.

I do see Bourn playing at this level for another 3, maybe 4 yrs, but is what you get in those age 34 plus seasons that is always a red flag when you are dealing with a speed player.
Some guys do last, Lou Brock stole 118 bases in his age 35 season, so you never know.
If we can get him for 5 yrs at 75 and maybe even 80, I say go for it. If Boras gets another team to go 5 or 6 yrs at the 20 mil per yr range, we prolly have to pass. No one will like it but business is business.
And you know how Boras drags it out. Boras will drag it out to the point where the Braves will not have time to move on a secondary suitable option, so if we lose we might be triple screwed.

Good to see Jansih getting some love around here. People are coming to his defense. He plays a very key position almost as smooth as you can and what you get out of him offensively is just a bonus. That doesn’t really matter at all. You have to understand how valuable such a great defensive SS is on your team. He’s just that.

I don’t know if he’d be that valuable (he’s 30-31 after all) but it is possible, especially if he can keep swinging the lumber pretty good. I might have to keep calling for Pastornicky to get a start, that’s how Janish started hitting.

With Janish there is no need for Wilson. Wilson provides zero offensive value and that makes Pastornicky more valuable for the bench. Pastor isn’t gonna kill us defensively cause he plays in the field rarely and is a ok hitter who has done well as a reserve in pinch hitting spots so far. Gotta remember Pastor is a rookie as well. He has plenty of time to improve and become a damn good utility guy like Omar Infante for example.

I’d like to see them resign Bourn but it would be an overpay to keep him. It would also most likely force us to platoon in LF or 3B with Francisco being a part of it. Even with all the available money we’ll have it seems like this team is destined to be worse next season on “paper”. Easy to say were not gonna upgrade over Chipper or Bourn, hell were not even gonna replace with equal value.
While I’m not big on spending a ton in free agency we need to spend more than we did last offseason. Only signing Jack Wilson, Chad Durbin, and Livan Hernandez for less than 3 million total was a joke. We spent the least of any team in baseball.
I think we can fill our needs by spending on 1 player and trading prospects for another. Having Prado gives Wren the option to look for a LFer or 3B. But overall this offseason will be huge for Wren. This is the most money we’ll have had to work with in quite a few years. But we gotta not overpay big for anyone and keep our current players in mind about the future.

Not fair to platoon Martin? Why is that? Will they not pay him if he platoons? Will hehave to sit on the bench if he doesn’t? Will Martin refuse to play if he can’t play a single position?
Give me a break – all Martin cares about is being in the lineup and helping the Braves win. If that requires him to play part time in LF and part time at third – or even sometimes at second, short or fitrst, he’ll do it, not complain and likely play quite well wherever they ask im to play.
And as for overpaying for Bourn – any player that will perform to the “standards” some of you have decided that we need or we’ll fade into baseball obscurity on the level of the Royals, will be overpaid – Bank on it.

The scheme began unfolding in July as Cabrera and his representatives scrambled to explain a spike in the former Yankee’s testosterone levels.
In a bizarre attempt to avoid a 50-game drug suspension, San Francisco Giants star Melky Cabrera created a fictitious website and a nonexistent product designed to prove he inadvertently took the banned substance that caused a positive test under Major League Baseball’s drug program.
hat might have been a simple suspension has attracted further attention from federal investigators and MLB
Oooh, he got the feds involved…. jail time maybe?
The idea, apparently, was to lay a trail of digital breadcrumbs suggesting Cabrera had ordered a supplement that ended up causing the positive test, and to rely on a clause in the collectively bargained drug program that allows a player who has tested positive to attempt to prove he ingested a banned substance through no fault of his own.

Only Braves – For one simple rerason – Martin can do it and do a much more than credible job whereever they have him play. Hell – he even did a decent job at shortstop and he’d only played a handful of games there thoroughout his career.
Y’all need to face facts that Martin is a special player simply because he is able to play all of those positions, do so well and continue hitting no matter where he is playing and also turn into a pretty good defensive player at whichever position.
Utilitzing his talents and special skill set is all they would be doing.

Also about time y’all realized that they don’t stamp MLB players out of a mold that guarees they will all have OBP’s over .345. Just not the way it is. Juan is still a worthwhiole player even if he never gets on base as often as some believe he should or strikes out as much as he does.

I never said platoon Prado, I meant Prado would play everyday at 3B or LF, while we platoon in the other spot. That is if they choose to spend big on Bourn. Francisco would likely be part of that particular platoon.

Throw him (Melky) out of baseball – this stunt has proven him a cheat – no need for a federal thing – Cooperstown must weigh in on this – bonafide cheat. Such foresight Cooperstown had when they decided not to allow Pete Rose into their little club. This is right there and can possibly close the door on any asterek players from entering their Hall.

VaBraves – Say they signed Bourn and used most of their money to do that and to lock up a couiple players like Martin. Why could they not then sign a player like Reed Johnson (not necessarily him) and played Francisco at third against RHP with Martin in LF and against LHP, Martin moves to third and the Johnson type plays LF.
What would be the problem with that if that’s how things worked out?

Astral – Just like I said a little while ago – You need a RH hitting, part time LFer to play LF when Prado is at third against LHP. When a RHP starts, Martin plays LF and Francisco plays third. Quite simple actually and very likely quite effective – and the only thing Wren would need to do is to sign Reed Johnson (or someone similar).
That way, Prado plays full time (albeit at two positions) and Francisco platoons at third with him and Johnson platoons in LF with Martin.

39 million off books before ARB raises.
Non-Tender Jurrjens, removes 5.5 million
Trade EOF removes 2.5 million (Set too make around 4 million in 13′ to much for Braves)
47 million now.
Prado ARB 3 expected to get around 2.5 million raise. (Or Extension)
Estimated Salaries
Hanson 2.5-3.5 mil
Heyward 2.25-3 mil
Medlen 1-1.75 mil
Venters 1.25-1.75 mil
CMart 750k-1 mil
So a estimated total amount of 12-14 million. Braves will roughly have around 30 million depending on EOF, and the exact upcoming salaries.
You really think Wren is gonna try and resign Reed Johnson and David Ross which would cost around 4 million total. So around 25 million give er take to to figure our LF or 3B and CF, possibly SP help.

Aside from Bourn signing for around 12 million a year, I don’t see why it would make sense for the Braves to bring him back. Why in the world would a team with a 90 million dollar payroll give Bourn five years and 80 million. That doesn’t make any sense and I’d question Wren big time if that happened.

In last week’s column, Cafardo wrote that Braves officials thought Michael Bourn would not re-sign when he becomes a free agent due to a less-than-stellar track record with Scott Boras clients. However, Boras told Cafardo that he has had an excellent relationship with General Manager Frank Wren and the club as a whole. The agent says he is not ruling out Atlanta at all and added that Bourn enjoys playing there.

I think Wren could land 2 good pieces this offseason. We can always target a player who fits our budget threw trade. While spending on another. That would be the only way I see us bringing in 2 everyday players or 1 and a SP.

my 12:43 post is a rough breakdown, tho I’m sure you would be better at estimating the salaries of our ARB guys.
Guaranteed:
Uggla – 13.2
Club Options to be exercised:
McCann – 12
Hudson – 9
Maholm – 6.5
Estimated arbitration:
Prado – 7.5
O’Flaherty – 3.5
Hanson – 4
Heyward – 3.5
Venters – 2
Medlen – 1.5
Martinez – 1.25
Janish – 1
Roughly 65 million in 12 players. If we pay the remaining 13 players for the 25 man roster the average minimum salary next year of 520K, we are at 71 million which gives us around 20 million to spend.
I could see trades of Hanson and O’Flaherty giving us more flexibility. But now that we traded for Maholm at 6.5 million, we’ve got around 20 million to spend. Bourn taking up the majority of that would limit what we can do greatly.

Trade for Josh Willingham to play LF, move Prado to 3B, and resign Bourn.

In 2010, the Braves had a payroll of approximately 84 mil and were paying Derek Lowe 15 of that. It’s hardly unprecedented.

Once Melky is back, he might initiate his own lifetime ban by not being good enough to play clean.
Just revert to the ATL Brave verson of Melky and U will seal ur fate.

All I ask out of the Braves to do is make a good competitive offer for Bourn which I am sure they will do.
If one team blows it out of the water and gives him 6 yrs at 20 plus mil per, I won’t like it but will understand it, that is not good business sense for anyone.
Wren could find a player we do not know about and make something out of it, like the pickup of Francisco and Janish.
I am sure that Frank could find an adequate player for CF, but any way you look at it its a drop off from Micheal who us fans have gotten attached to in his time here.
Micheal does things at a level we have gotten spolied watching so we love his play.
Its was similar to losing Texiera and replacing him with Kotchman, no way were we going to like Casey Kotchman even if he played to his 2007-08 level at LAA. Kotchman could not do what Texx could do.
If we lose Micheal, his successor is going to have a thankless job (we are not going to get a star type).

What a surprise — another black hole in the bottom of the lineup. Seems like we just don’t want to win these series. There comes a time when mgmt must realize that some players are having a bad YEAR!!!
