Veer is ready to dump Simmons….
Did you get any sleep last night? Dump Simmons?
August 19th, 20129:32 am
We didn’t get Uggla or mac or freeman for their hitting either…
August 19th, 20129:36 am
Janish is a nice player to have as a reseerve in case we have ijuries to Simmons in the future.
Anyone who thinks Janish is a bad player has no appreciation for defense.
Now Pastornicky, he is not a very good player in my book, at least not to date. No power and not a good defensive player, he might be a suitable hitter in time but has a long way to go.
I see him as a AAAA player unless he makes some big improvement.
I’d rather have Jack Wilson than the Rev.
August 19th, 20129:39 am
At least Uggla does take his walks, its made his season half bearable.
And he has played decent D but some of that is credit to the defensive improvement at the shortstop position. Uggla has looked better in the field when they realized that Passtornicky is not of MLB caliber.
The shortstop and second baseman affect each other.
I really do not think that Uggla has been as disgusting as some make him out to be. Dissapointing but not a total zero.
What did we get Uggla for, phil?

Push yourself away from the table and put a chain on the fridgey door, Fat Boy… McCann’s as mobile as vending machine, and at this point he couldn’t catch a balloon in a phone booth on his best day…
He’s the prototypical DH in a DH-less league… old n worn out… buh-bye Fat Boy, and take yer buddy Havana Fats with ya… |-)
let’s be glad we’ve never seen this idiot post here that I know of….
THIS is hate.
August 19th, 20129:45 am
For his excellent defense, Trey!
August 19th, 20129:46 am
Zeke had a nice outing last night I see…nice looking trade bait
August 19th, 20129:47 am
I do see Bourn playing at this level for another 3, maybe 4 yrs, but is what you get in those age 34 plus seasons that is always a red flag when you are dealing with a speed player.
Some guys do last, Lou Brock stole 118 bases in his age 35 season, so you never know.
If we can get him for 5 yrs at 75 and maybe even 80, I say go for it. If Boras gets another team to go 5 or 6 yrs at the 20 mil per yr range, we prolly have to pass. No one will like it but business is business.
And you know how Boras drags it out. Boras will drag it out to the point where the Braves will not have time to move on a secondary suitable option, so if we lose we might be triple screwed.
August 19th, 20129:49 am
I have been a defender of Hinske but unless he contributes something over the next few weeks, he too has to go this off season.
He was a useful player for a while. I hope that Diaz comes back and is good again for somebody.
August 19th, 20129:50 am
Now Pastornicky, he is not a very good player in my book, at least not to date.
Whoa whoa whoa! As possibly the only person here who seems to like Pastornicky, I’m gonna disagree with ya. He’s a very good hitter, even if he is a slap-hitter. He makes contact and has speed… both things that are good to have out of a hitter. A little Reed Johnson, possibly.
I wouldn’t. Wilson’s defense isn’t all that special, and he can’t hit…. apparently all he can do with the bat is drop down some bunts.
August 19th, 20129:51 am
Uggla is hinske’s hitting mentor….
August 19th, 20129:55 am
Janish sukks, eh? Chew on this then. Janish has a .313/.371/.344/.715 line in his last 7 games, just 2 K
.268/.325/.310/.635 in his past 20, with 10 K
And while he has a .230/.310/.274/.584 line since coming over to ATL, he’s played 33 games, just 19 K. He has 11BB in that time frame. He is making contact, just at people. All you can ask is for him to make contact.
Uggla is definitely deserving of a gold glove!
@TOBF — In time Pastornicky might be a useful offensive player, but he is not there yet at the MLB level. There is some potential for his offensive game to develop but his defense is something left to be desired.
Maybe in 2 yrs he might be there. Reed Johnson has more power though in time maybe the Rev might develop a little pop.
I was okay with Wilson in the field though Jansih and Andy are better, much better.
August 19th, 20129:58 am
Disgusted, I’m surprised you are having a real conversation and not calling everyone bums, or as you for some reason call it “BUMBS” who deserve to be booed.
August 19th, 201210:07 am
Trey — They have been playing great ball the last couple months and look like the 90’s Braves who used to go to the series.
They have not been playing like “BUMBS” anymore.
There is little to really be negative about, so its a good time to be a Braves fan. This team has overachieved in my opinion.
August 19th, 201210:09 am
Disgusted, hopefully they can keep it up. It would be nice to see another Series come to Atlanta. Chipper definitely deserves it, in his last year. He got it in his first FULL major season, he deserves it in his last.
August 19th, 201210:10 am
Thanks couch tater. One good note – the first thing I will be cleared for is golf because it puts much less stress on the labrum than throwing, tennis, etc
August 19th, 201210:11 am
Braves lineup: Bourn cf, Prado lf, Heyward rf, Freeman 1b, Uggla 2b, Francisco 3b, McCann c, Janish ss, Minor p
August 19th, 201210:12 am
McFann will be happy to see McCann paying today, but she’ll be quite pissed seeing him bat 7.
August 19th, 201210:13 am
Cortisone is not going to help BMac and his shoulder. Whatever they use with the cortisone to numb things up will feel really, really good though
August 19th, 201210:14 am
And while he has a .230/.310/.274/.584 line since coming over to ATL, he’s played 33 games, just 19 K. He has 11BB in that time frame.
#8 hitters get a lot of walks hitting in front of the pitcher.
August 19th, 201210:15 am
McCann’s shoulder will bother him most at both ends of his swing – when he assumes the MLB logo look as he is about to swing and then on his follow throw
McCann’s paying for our meals today??? Sweet! It’ll cost him just as much to feed us as it does to feed himself dinner!
BMac is back… Yay. BMac is hitting behind Francisco and in front of Janish…. boo.
August 19th, 201210:16 am
Through not throw
August 19th, 201210:19 am
I don’t think his salary would cover us, too.
August 19th, 201210:20 am
Anybody think that janish may be playing well enough to become a valuable trade chip this offseason since there are many SS needy teams?
August 19th, 201210:30 am
Good to see Jansih getting some love around here. People are coming to his defense. He plays a very key position almost as smooth as you can and what you get out of him offensively is just a bonus. That doesn’t really matter at all. You have to understand how valuable such a great defensive SS is on your team. He’s just that.
August 19th, 201210:31 am
I don’t know if he’d be that valuable (he’s 30-31 after all) but it is possible, especially if he can keep swinging the lumber pretty good. I might have to keep calling for Pastornicky to get a start, that’s how Janish started hitting.
I wouldn’t want him traded though… there’s room for both him and Rev next year.
August 19th, 201210:37 am
With Janish there is no need for Wilson. Wilson provides zero offensive value and that makes Pastornicky more valuable for the bench. Pastor isn’t gonna kill us defensively cause he plays in the field rarely and is a ok hitter who has done well as a reserve in pinch hitting spots so far. Gotta remember Pastor is a rookie as well. He has plenty of time to improve and become a damn good utility guy like Omar Infante for example.
August 19th, 201210:38 am
Looks like Sheets fatiguing. Not good.
Brave New World
August 19th, 201210:56 am
Gio Gonzalez is pitching today, so we will not see him in next series against Nationals. Gio is Nats best pitcher, so this is good. GO BRAVES!
August 19th, 201210:58 am
I sincerely doubt that Michael Bourn will be anywhere close to needing a hover-round or walker at age 35 as some here seem to believe. Won’t be eligible for Medicare yet, either, but I’m sure the Braves have a good medical plan.
August 19th, 201210:59 am
August 19th, 201211:00 am
Well, If Sheets is fatiguing, I guess we won’t have a six man rotation, will we?
August 19th, 201211:01 am
Whoever started that thread about Janish being awful is a dolt with a strong bias against people whose names start with “J.”
August 19th, 201211:02 am
His name starts with a P
If Sheets is fatiguing, a 6-man rotation should help him, huh?
August 19th, 201211:03 am
Not his sir-name, amigo.
August 19th, 201211:07 am
Anyone have any San Diego food suggestions? Traveling there next weekend for a few games.
August 19th, 201211:10 am
Kat – DS1 will be at Tuesday’s game, cab and I on Wednesday…
August 19th, 201211:11 am
I’d like to see them resign Bourn but it would be an overpay to keep him. It would also most likely force us to platoon in LF or 3B with Francisco being a part of it. Even with all the available money we’ll have it seems like this team is destined to be worse next season on “paper”. Easy to say were not gonna upgrade over Chipper or Bourn, hell were not even gonna replace with equal value.
While I’m not big on spending a ton in free agency we need to spend more than we did last offseason. Only signing Jack Wilson, Chad Durbin, and Livan Hernandez for less than 3 million total was a joke. We spent the least of any team in baseball.
I think we can fill our needs by spending on 1 player and trading prospects for another. Having Prado gives Wren the option to look for a LFer or 3B. But overall this offseason will be huge for Wren. This is the most money we’ll have had to work with in quite a few years. But we gotta not overpay big for anyone and keep our current players in mind about the future.
August 19th, 201211:13 am
VJ – I’ll be at the Mon and Tues games. Monday 2nd row behind Braves dugout and Tues first row behind the Braves bullpen in that cemented off area where there are 7 seats. I’ll take any food suggestions though haha. I have a few I have found online might be good, but first hand experience is always a good guage.
August 19th, 201211:16 am
I’d like to see them resign Bourn but it would be an overpay to keep him. It would also most likely force us to platoon in LF or 3B with Francisco being a part of it.
I don’t want Bourn back in that case…. If Francisco is part of anything more than the bench, it means that we got no LF (again). It wouldn’t be fair to platoon Martin either, esp. since Juan can’t hit lefties.
Only signing Jack Wilson, Chad Durbin, and Livan Hernandez for less than 3 million total was a joke. We spent the least of any team in baseball.
Durbin’s turned out pretty good…. Wilson was a joke, but they needed someone to backup Rev. for the first 50 games. And we’re the 4th best team in baseball, 2nd best in the NL. Not too shabby.
August 19th, 201211:17 am
I always found a nice good fast to be refreshing…
It’s been like 7-8 years since I’ve been to San Diego, so I wouldn’t be of much help.
The GasLampd District is right there, and there are tons of options, but I’m not an expert. There are also many different options in the stadium…(we might also go Tuesday, especially if it appears that Chipper will not play Wednesday)…
August 19th, 201211:18 am
jeffrey, actually it was BravesFanForever who started it. At least, that was the first person that I read who said anything negative about him this morning, and I responded to him.

August 19th, 201211:26 am
Thx, I’m sure I’ll find some places.
August 19th, 201211:27 am
Kat, have fun!
August 19th, 201211:28 am
VJ, you and cab also have fun!
August 19th, 201211:29 am
JeffR – Last night was the 18th. Sheets had not pitched since the 12th. He’s already pitching in a six man rotation. If he’s fatigued, he won’t be in a rotation – much less in a six man rotation.
August 19th, 201211:30 am
I suspect we will – thanks!

Exclusive: Daily News uncovers bizarre plot by Giants’ Melky Cabrera to use fake website and duck drug suspension | http://nydn.us/P6XCjK
Dude Melky… A-hole Jerk you
Oh no, you said the “T” word, Waffle House or Bust will have a fit.
August 19th, 201211:36 am
But I did not thank you for doing your job…
Not fair to platoon Martin? Why is that? Will they not pay him if he platoons? Will hehave to sit on the bench if he doesn’t? Will Martin refuse to play if he can’t play a single position?
Give me a break – all Martin cares about is being in the lineup and helping the Braves win. If that requires him to play part time in LF and part time at third – or even sometimes at second, short or fitrst, he’ll do it, not complain and likely play quite well wherever they ask im to play.
And as for overpaying for Bourn – any player that will perform to the “standards” some of you have decided that we need or we’ll fade into baseball obscurity on the level of the Royals, will be overpaid – Bank on it.
August 19th, 201211:37 am
50 games is kinda light for Melky…. ban him for a year, maybe 2, if not life. Geez
August 19th, 201211:38 am
Ah, fair point, VJ.
high today supposed to be 80 winds out of the WNW-should be a comfortable (if not cool) day at the ballyard
August 19th, 201211:39 am
Lew: I know that’s all Martin wants… so does every Brave. But I don’t see us platooning Chipper, BMac when he was healthy, Freeman, Hey, etc… why does Martin have to be that guy? He’s starting material… platoons are for people who are 1-dimensional (can only hit righties/lefties)
August 19th, 201211:40 am
He’ll still probably have a heart attack from that word.
Major Braves’ love on The Sports Reporters this morning. Howard Bryant opened the show by saying that, while the Red Sox get all the headlines for their dysfunction, more attention should be paid to how well the Braves have rebounded from a similar collapse. Mike Lupica’s parting shot was a nice little homage to Chipper…

August 19th, 201211:42 am
Exclusive: Daily News uncovers bizarre plot by San Francisco Giants’ Melky Cabrera to use fake website and duck drug suspension
The scheme began unfolding in July as Cabrera and his representatives scrambled to explain a spike in the former Yankee’s testosterone levels.
In a bizarre attempt to avoid a 50-game drug suspension, San Francisco Giants star Melky Cabrera created a fictitious website and a nonexistent product designed to prove he inadvertently took the banned substance that caused a positive test under Major League Baseball’s drug program.
hat might have been a simple suspension has attracted further attention from federal investigators and MLB
Oooh, he got the feds involved…. jail time maybe?
The idea, apparently, was to lay a trail of digital breadcrumbs suggesting Cabrera had ordered a supplement that ended up causing the positive test, and to rely on a clause in the collectively bargained drug program that allows a player who has tested positive to attempt to prove he ingested a banned substance through no fault of his own.
Wow, Juiced Man, wow…
August 19th, 201211:45 am
I would support an 81 game suspension the first time someone got caught with HGH, then a 162 game suspension the 2nd time. 50 just doesn’t seem harsh enough.
August 19th, 201211:47 am
how about public execution
That wouldn’t be too bad.
Trey: Why not 1 year first, 2 the second…. not being able to play for a full year hurts the players FA value more IMO.
August 19th, 201211:48 am
Only Braves – For one simple rerason – Martin can do it and do a much more than credible job whereever they have him play. Hell – he even did a decent job at shortstop and he’d only played a handful of games there thoroughout his career.
Y’all need to face facts that Martin is a special player simply because he is able to play all of those positions, do so well and continue hitting no matter where he is playing and also turn into a pretty good defensive player at whichever position.
Utilitzing his talents and special skill set is all they would be doing.
August 19th, 201211:50 am
IF you want the game to be clean, then lifetime bans are the only way.
Comment from that Melky story… It truly is the only way, even if it is harsh.
August 19th, 201211:51 am
Okay Lew, just as long as Juan isn’t in that platoon… Headley, then maybe
August 19th, 201211:53 am
I wonder how many players are still doing HGH that haven’t been caught. TOBF, we may as well ban them from baseball, altogether
August 19th, 201211:54 am
The Padres aren’t trading Headley – time for everyone to just realize thad move on.
And as for Francisco? He’d likely make a quite effective platoon partner for a RH Hir at third. Also about time y’all realized that they don’t stamp MLB players out of a mold that guarees they will all have OBP’s over .345. Just not the way it is. Juan is still a worthwhiole player even if he never gets on base as often as some believe he should or strikes out as much as he does.
August 19th, 201211:56 am
I never said platoon Prado, I meant Prado would play everyday at 3B or LF, while we platoon in the other spot. That is if they choose to spend big on Bourn. Francisco would likely be part of that particular platoon.
August 19th, 201211:58 am
Francisco is definitely gonna be part of the ballclub next season. He’s only gonna be making around 500k, his power alone is worth that.
August 19th, 201211:59 am
Throw him (Melky) out of baseball – this stunt has proven him a cheat – no need for a federal thing – Cooperstown must weigh in on this – bonafide cheat. Such foresight Cooperstown had when they decided not to allow Pete Rose into their little club. This is right there and can possibly close the door on any asterek players from entering their Hall.
another posters’ thoughts
August 19th, 201212:00 pm
VaBraves – Say they signed Bourn and used most of their money to do that and to lock up a couiple players like Martin. Why could they not then sign a player like Reed Johnson (not necessarily him) and played Francisco at third against RHP with Martin in LF and against LHP, Martin moves to third and the Johnson type plays LF.
What would be the problem with that if that’s how things worked out?
August 19th, 201212:01 pm
how can anybody be so unrealistic about this team as to think that they are going to platoon Prado and Francisco? That is about as ignorant a thought as I have read here in a while, and that is really saying something.
Other than that’s not how some of you want it to work out.
August 19th, 201212:02 pm
1) Pete Rose himself accepted a “liftime” ban from MLB. Not a “wait a few years until things simmer” ban.
2) Who was considering Melky for Cooperstown??
I won’t be surprised if Prado is stuck in LF, next year. He’s definitely valuable out there.
August 19th, 201212:03 pm
Not a problem at all. Prado would still be playing everyday which is the key. I also think resigning Reed Johnson and David Ross should be on Wren’s to-do list.
August 19th, 201212:04 pm
Prado wouldn’t be platooning…. He would be playing everyday still just at 2 postions depending on the opposing pitcher.
August 19th, 201212:06 pm
Also about time y’all realized that they don’t stamp MLB players out of a mold that guarees they will all have OBP’s over .345. @Lew
of course they don’t, that doesn’t mean a team has to be stupid enough to use one who doesn’t when OBP is so important.
If he starts (he will never ever platoon regularly with Martin) it will mean that the Braves once again have failed at getting a left fielder
August 19th, 201212:08 pm
how would that worn out unless they have a left handed hitting outfielder, which we need like we need a hole in the head, Va
August 19th, 201212:09 pm

I don’t know if the Padres will trade Headley, but I don’t think they should. Why sign a player like Quentin to a three year deal and then deal away Headley? I’d keep him and build around him, Quentin, Alonso, Maybin, Grandal, etc.
Because he hasn’t tested positive
