he has been a little bit less sharp in each of the last 4 games at least
“We draw 3 walks and hit a double and they cut all the BS and just hit 3 homers haha.”
Va Braves — That is why I am more of a XBH and RBI guy than OBP.
You can have a game where you have a nice OBP and plenty of LOB.
OBP is not bad but its not the end all and be all. Pitching and the ol fashoned 3 run homer will win alot of games like the great Earl Weaver said.
Still an inning like that steals all the momentum. Sheets didn’t even give the defense a chance to stop em, getting rocked by 2 very easy outs in there lineup. But it still goes back to our 1st AB and only being able to score 1 run.
August 18th, 20127:49 pm
Time to roll over and die.
Told you, have to get em early. Harang already a different pitcher in the 2nd than he was in first.
Sheets has got to go.
over a full season there is nothing that compares to team OBP in correlation to runs scoring including homers
August 18th, 20127:50 pm
Sheets has already given more to us than I expected…. if for some reason his “magic” is over, so be it. We’re not doomed, we got Kris Medlen and Maholm ready to pick up the slack.
I don’t believe Sheets has a dead arm. He throws harder than any starter we have. His trouble is location.
It’s hilarious to read some of the posts after Sheets first inning and the posts from the same ones after that second inning. It’s like night and day. You guys don’t know if you’re coming or going.
Harang will settle in now and won’t give us runs like he was willing to give in the 1st. I’ll check back in on the game in the 7th.
Not going there Tomahawkin. I have given up politics on this blog now, just get into too much trouble with it.
Though Dubya has pretty much stayed out of it since Pres Obama took office. I’ll give him credit for that.

August 18th, 20127:52 pm
Delgado isn’t doing so well tonight either…
August 18th, 20127:53 pm
I hate seeing Big Ben go out like this especially since I was Banking on that he would pull a 2004 Jaret Wright Role for us
Jason Werth is the Nationals lead off man.
August 18th, 20127:54 pm
Sheets has been throwing for what now, 6-7 months? He’s not all the way back folks, he’s gonna be a work in progress…
Hes Not Fooling Anyone!
August 18th, 20127:55 pm
Sheets it´s done… 3 of the last 4 starts including this one Sheets was awful… vs Marlins he was knocked in the 1st inning, then thrown a nice game vs Philly , vs Mets he sucks , and vs LA tonight allowing 3 HR in a row that sucks.. and it´s only the 2nd inning,,, so he K Matt Kemp but a AAA players like Loney and Cruz homered ?? WTF it´s wrong with Sheets!!!!! …. apparently the odd man after the final week this month will be Sheets and not Mike Minor… watching the game vs Mets and this one i dont see too much difference between Sheets and Jurrjens…maybe only the salary….
hope for Braves comeback!!!!
Cmon Man, Braves Fans are hardcore SEC gans, of course we are gonna live and die and critique every game and start
August 18th, 20127:56 pm
If he pitched like he has to Kemp all night then we would still be up 1-0.
sure it is TOBF and hopefully it will get better again, but he really needs to sharpen up his command and stay lower in the zone. he does not have the great pitches that he used to have that allowed him to be successful that way. Adjustments are needed.
Now go get those runs back!!!!!
Three Sheets to the wind is the state I’m in.Good Nite Now Ben Sheets,Thanks for the memories.
August 18th, 20127:57 pm
Sheets is able to strikeout superstar Matt Kemp for the 2nd time tonight, doesn’t face sluggers Loney and Cruz til next inning.
August 18th, 20127:58 pm
Come on people we cant Ballgame it yet…The team has shown that they can come back over the last 6 weeks
And this is coming from someone who will call the team out if they start to mail it in…
Its early folks

Exactly what I thought – dead arm is a term which is used to explain a sudden drop in velocity (about 10mph or so). Sheets is missing locations and getting pitches UP after being down the first few starts.
When you combine Sheets (torn in strips) with a gas can, you get a Molotov cocktail.
At this rate, we’re going to have to call him Ben “Molotov” Sheets.
Harang has settled in, 4 pitches and 2 outs.
August 18th, 20128:01 pm
Chipper on a real tear……wow
Lol at Chipper! Awesome stuff.
Play on, Chipper Jones!!
Man Hoss is Clowning!!!
Delgado through 2 for AAA: 3 ER, 2 HR (1 to our ol’ buddy Brooks Conrad) 3 Hits, 2 SO, 0 BB. 27 pitches, 16 for strikes.
Just don’t understand the approach, Harang was falling behind every batter and were still being too aggressive.
August 18th, 20128:02 pm
FF,Takes first pitch!WTF
Wow, 3-0 count to Freeman is surprising.
August 18th, 20128:03 pm
At least Jones still hits.
Come on Freddie!!!
Dang, unless you think the 3-0 pitch is one you can absolutely mash and drive then don’t swing. No need to be in defense mode on a 3-0 count.
Freddie hasn’t done a whole lot at the plate since the Mets series ended
Wow, Freeman really? Alrighty then…
The talking monkey
August 18th, 20128:04 pm
Ben sheets looks like an ape.
August 18th, 20128:05 pm
Seems like they are helping Harang get threw innings.
What in the heck was Freeman doing swinging at a 3-0 pitch down and a way? There is no reason to swing at that pitch at all while ahead in the count. Freeman has had some dumb at bats tonight.
freddie "retarded" freeman
i dont know what is more stupid, swing the 1st pitch or swing the ball with 3-0 count????
wow , maybe you are the RBI leader in this team freeman, but you sucks the half of the time with your poor plate discipline…..another wasted opportunity for score….thanks retarded face…
Just show the game…..please.
How do you leave the bases loaded like that in the first inning?
All I ever want as a Braves fan, and perhaps it’s asking too much, is to be surprised.
Last night, I was.
Tonight, I’m not.
We need more play like the old Braves and less like the team we’ve all come to know oh so well.
The A Bomb
August 18th, 20128:06 pm
Got a feeling Tim Hudson would also be allowed to swing 3-0. This constant pursuit of the home run sucks.
August 18th, 20128:07 pm
Mitchell: All I want as a blogger is for you to surprise me and not b!tch about every thing the Braves do/don’t do…
August 18th, 20128:08 pm
at least i have more patience than Freedie
Hit Loney on the head, please!
I’d pay to see that!
August 18th, 20128:09 pm
Who is the chocolate face in the booth?
Hate it when they interview people while the game is going on. Do it during the commercial breaks. Now there’s an idea!
August 18th, 20128:10 pm
Oh lord, that is not cool, The talking monkey.
August 18th, 20128:11 pm
yeah man. Me too i have more patience than Freddie , i never want to destroy the ball in the 1st pitch , do you saw my hit last night???:) i was patience and waited my pitch then i knocked the tie run hit my hit
August 18th, 20128:12 pm
2 pitchers another out, what kinda game plan is this?
Its a Hack-A-Thon tonight.
August 18th, 20128:14 pm
Martin "Venezolan Hitting Machine" Prado
Yeah mannn….maybe Freedie could be learn about my hitting skills, like be patience and never swing the 1st pitch, learn about hit with 2 strikes and be clutch hitter …
Why? What’s wrong with being called chocolate or vanilla face?
August 18th, 20128:15 pm
Paul Janish, great job!
August 18th, 20128:16 pm
Good job, Paul!
August 18th, 20128:17 pm
Way to get the lineup turned over so Bourn can lead off next inning.
Yes folks..Even me and im a pitcher i have more plate discipline than Freedie….who watched me hitting a sharp double to CF vs Phillies 2 weeks ago??? yes with 3-2 after 7-8 pitches AB …
play me in 1st base
August 18th, 20128:18 pm
Harang has thrown more balls than strikes and still beating us….
Ben Sheets has seen more pitches at the plate tonight than Heyward and Freeman.
August 18th, 20128:19 pm
Ben Sheets has done fine except for 4 lousy pitches.
Took the momentum out of the game for now.
The offense has to bail him out and all we are doing is fattening the OBP and ending the innings with LOB.
Bunk You Bill James
Gotta be patient vs Harang and let him get his self into trouble.
August 18th, 20128:20 pm
Yes me too…i supposed to be a defensive player but i have few timely hits since i arrived to the ballclub,,, and yes i never swing the 1st pitch ,,,do you see me knocking a double 3 minutes ago with 3-1 count ,,yes i take 1 strike before swing the bat ….
This game is getting frustrating.
August 18th, 20128:21 pm
Ben sheets is pitching well.
Offense looks dead today. Having mac in the lineup would have made a world of difference. He atleast would have drawn the walk and got us the 2nd run or more. Ross is a blackhole today and Freeman is stupid
August 18th, 20128:22 pm
Did not know that Paul Janish was an uneducated Venezuelan?
Freddie can learn a lot from Janish.
August 18th, 20128:23 pm
Nothing but offspeed pitches now.
August 18th, 20128:24 pm
Maybe Sheets isn’t done after all? He is in NO Man’s Land right now. He looks half done and half quality starter.
Chipper "God" Jones
Hi everybody im your daddy and your god,,,yes im CJ10.. and i have 1000+ BB in my carrer, a lot of patience ah … and yes sometimes a swing the 1st pitch with the big difference i hit the homeruns, doubles etc
see you later folks i see you in Cooperstown
August 18th, 20128:25 pm
I think a case of “Ban” is coming up on this “Civil Rights Game” night.
Top of the line up due for the Braves. Time to make some noise, plus Sheets appears to be settling down after that awful stretch in the second inning.
August 18th, 20128:26 pm
How long has it been since we were down 3-1 to the Dodgers and won a game? 22 hours?
August 18th, 20128:27 pm
We take some of the most defensive looking swings on some great hitters count….
Wow, Are you flipping kidding me? 2-0 and swinging….. All the players have lost there minds tonight.
August 18th, 20128:28 pm
Can we not wait until a called strike when we’re ahead 2-0 or 3-0 before we swing?
August 18th, 20128:29 pm
Beautiful, Heyward didn’t swing.
The Gnats are winning again 0-0 in the fifth inning against the lowly Mets.
August 18th, 20128:30 pm
Thank you for your patience and intelligence, Jason.
There we go… Harang would probably have like 8 walks by now if they wern’t so aggressive…
Please Chipper, be my hero tonight. I’ll even deal with the heat to sleep in that Chipper picture Tshirt I bought Thursday night.
August 18th, 20128:31 pm
At least Jones showed patience.
August 18th, 20128:32 pm
77 pitches 35 strikes 42 balls……And Harang actually has the lead in this game. Helps out when swinging at 3-0, 2-0 pitches.
Another doggone zero run inning and another one LOB.
August 18th, 20128:33 pm
Rolling over and dying = Braves’ baseball.
Well atleast were not getting shutout.
Yeah, Bourn swinging at a 2-0 pitch down and away was mind boggling. That was likely ball three. I still have faith in there ability to score a couple more runs though.
August 18th, 20128:34 pm
Nice play on D by Danny and Freddie!
Uggs and Freddie
Harang has been horrible 2nite, Braves hitters have helped out a ton tho.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
