Chipper is a first time ballot—not marginal–Hall of Famer. Especially during the cheating era of baseball where a 40 year old man hit 70 plus homeruns and tarnished baseball history.
Meds command is almost scary. Guy hardly ever misses in the middle of the plate. Stays on the corners with FB and change. Curve is good. Hardly ever throws the ball the same speed to the same batter in an AB.
If he stays healthy and his teams can score he can be a 15 game winner.
Wow, this is a guy who got shuffled around in the bullpen and all over the place, saw several youngsters and veterans getting chance over him, and almost got sent right back to bullpen, had Tommy not got hurt.
Big deal! They are still stuck in second place. The Braves should always win a series against a team as crummy as San Diego.
What they should have done is swept them.
Medlen will lose a game someday. The Braves will lose a game started by Medlen someday. But is there any real question that he is the ace of the staff right now?
Have to be happy for the comeback that Medlen has had & as for Chipper he would have been a 500 HR, 1800 RBI and 3.000 hit man with a bit better health.
Chipper has been good even through his late 30’s and as a 40 yr old ballplayer. Its too bad he had that ACL in 10, that year he was bouncing back from a slow start and he would have been on his way to a 20 HR season. He was starting to hit before that ACL injury, and unfortunately, it cost him another chance in post season. Could he have made a defference vs SF that yr, we never know but why not think that it could have been?
Hope Chipper gets another chance this time around he deserves it.
Yup. Sorry folks. Medlen deserves to be in this rotation… PERMANENTLY. If they need another arm in the pen? Put Hanson out there for the rest of the year. Then weigh the options over the winter.
Medlen is the Tim Tebow of pitchers. All he does is win. Give him the damn ball every 5 days until his time in Atlanta is done. With Maholm on board. Hanson is expendable.
They aren’t going to get what they could have gotten for JJ two winters ago. But they’ll get something for him. Clearly somebody out there has to have a LF they will trade us for Hanson (who I believe is now arbitration eligible after this year), and we move Prado to 3B. With Fransisco being the backup and bat off the bench.
But putting Medlen back in the bullpen after what he’s done (WITHOUT complaininig once or caling Roger and Fredi an expletive)….. would be a shame. He’s earned it.
And if they DO put him back in the pen and Hanson goes out there and gets shelled? Or any of the starters for that matter, on a regular basis? Wren and Fredo deserve to be fired.
Medlen and Maholm start game 1 and game 2 for me if the playoffs started right now. THAT is how good those two are throwing.
People talk about “needing” Medlen in he pen. HOGWASH.
If the guys in the rotation pitched like Medlen and Maholm do, we wouldn’t need 4 excellent arms in the pen.
Medlen is only needed in the pen when guys like Hanson (and Minor earlier in the year), couldn’t get through 6 innings on a regular basis.
The math really isn’t that difficult to calculate.
“Medlen will lose a game someday. The Braves will lose a game started by Medlen someday. But is there any real question that he is the ace of the staff right now?”
I wish for Janish’s sake that he could be a .250 hitter with a .310 OBP. He could be an everyday SS for a full season if he could put up offense like that.
I did not know that Janish would be so good, steady and rangy in the field.
What has fallen under the radar is that this Braves team is one of the BEST defensive teams in MLB and that is a big part of the season;s success.
I did not know that Janish would be so good, steady and rangy in the field.
It’s nice that we’re getting such great pitching, and plenty of hitting, that we can just appreciate his defense rather than whine about his bat. It wouldn’t be so easy if we were playing a bunch of one-run games like last year. But yeah, he’s been outstanding.
