get off the schneid
To break a scoreless, hitless, or winless streak (i.e., a schneid). According to the Dickson Baseball Dictionary, the term “schneid” comes to baseball via gin rummy, and in turn comes from German / Yiddish “schneider,” one who cuts cloth, i.e., a tailor.

Spoke to Jason Marquis yesterday. He told me he’d miss facing Chipper Jones when he retired. Wonder if he’ll reconsider that sentiment now?
Watching the game on my phone at work. I thought I would never enjoy watching anyone play as much as I enjoyed watching Dale Murphy. This season, Chipper has proved me a wrong. What a gamer! Anyone who hates on Chipper or even claims he isn’t a first ballot hall of famer should not be allowed to watch baseball ever again. That goes for fans, players, and sports writers alike.
Why is baseball so backward about some things? Mac has a bad shoulder. He needs some rest to let that shoulder mend. Without rest, he’s a shadow of what he was a few weeks back. We have Ross who is AT LEAST as good or better than Mac when Mac is hurt. So instead of sitting Mac, playing Ross, and allowing Mac’s shoulder to heal, Fredi will keep running Mac out there while his shoulder continues NOT to heal. Of course we are all supposed to sit here and say, “wow that Mac is such a gamer! He’s hanging in there and playing hurt!” That’s BS . He’s better off healing up so that a healthy Mac is available down the stretch instead of the Mac who continues to struggle because his shoulder is toast.
Baseball, more than any other sport, seems to embrace that 50 percent of a star player is better than his backup, even if it isn’t true.
The same holds true for anyone who thinks Medlen should be sent back to the pen. If I had to pick one pitcher for Atlanta to pitch one big game right now, it would be a toss up between he and Hudson.
If Hanson trumps Medlen for the last SP spot when we go back to 5-man (assuming he continues pitching well), I might have to join the Fire-Fredi bandwagon Okay, maybe not.
Belated notation….Mac and Freddy have got to slow it down some…. getting ‘greedy’ with zero speed results in a bruised hinny, an inning kill (frequently) and unnecessary base path potholes……
The past 23 games, including tonite’s game, have been vs sub .500 teams! The next 10 games are against playoff contenders.Let’s keep playing superb baseball vs Dodgers, Nats, and Giants. MERCY
