Radio: 680, 93.7, 100.5

Probable starting pitchers:

Friday: Braves RH Tommy Hanson (12-5, 4.29 ERA) vs. LH Chris Capuano (11-8, 3.11)

Saturday: Braves RH Ben Sheets (4-2, 2.13) vs. RH Aaron Harang (8-7, 3.76)

Sunday: Braves LH Mike Minor (6-9, 4.93) vs. RH Chad Billingsley (9-9, 3.62)

About the Braves:

Batting: Martin Prado had four straight multi-hit games entering Thursday’s series finale against the Padres. He was 9-for-17 (.529) over that time to raise his season average from .293 to .302. Entering Thursday, Dan Uggla had three home runs and 16 RBIs and his past 16 games while hitting .250, after hitting only .110 with two home runs and nine RBI in his previous 42 games dating back to June 5. He’d hit safely in seven of his previous nine games.

Pitching: Hanson returns from the disabled list after missing two starts with a strained lower back. The Braves have won 10 of Hanson’s past 11 starts dating back through June 3. Hanson hasn’t lasted six innings in four starts since his back first flared up over the All-Star break. He’s 2-0 with a 7.45 ERA in that time, though he allowed only one run in five innings in each of his past two starts. Beginning Friday with Hanson, the Braves will go to a six-man rotation through Aug. 29 to give each of the starters an extra days’ rest.

Miscellaneous: The Braves won two out of three at Dodger Stadium April 23-25 on a pair of ninth-inning victories, with game-winning hits from Prado and Chipper Jones respectively.

About the Dodgers:

Batting: Center fielder Shane Victorino, acquired from the Phillies at the trade deadline, had a nine-game hitting streak end Thursday. He went 15-for-40 (.375) over the streak with four doubles, one home run, six RBIs and 10 runs scored. Shortstop Hanley Ramirez, acquired from the Marlins at the trade deadline, was hitting.308 (24-for-78) with five doubles, one triple, one home run and 21 RBIs in 20 games with the Dodgers. Matt Kemp went 4-for-9 with a home run against the Braves in that April series. Kemp was ejected for arguing balls and strikes Thursday against the Pirates and could draw a suspension after making contact with an umpire.

Pitching: Capuano is the fifth left-handed starter the Braves have faced in their past seven games. The Braves are 20-25 against left-handed starters on the season. Capuano is coming off eight two-hit shutout innings in a win over the Marlins, walking three and striking out 10. He limited the Braves to one run in seven innings in a win on April 23. He’s given up only three runs in 21 innings in his past three starts against Atlanta, including a complete-game shutout Aug. 26, 2011 as a New York Met, before Hurricane Irene forced the rest of the series to be postponed.

Miscellaneous: The Dodgers used a four-game winning streak to take over sole possession of the NL West lead this week over the Giants, for the first time since July 13.

Hanson better be sharp; Capuano is always tough on the Braves.

Well at least one thing was settled tonight. When we go to a 5 man rotation in September, it won’t be Medlen. My guess is Minor unless Hanson bombs his next start.

I hope Tommy learns from Medlen — get the ball and throw it, instead of slowing the game down to the pace of a dying snail….. GO Braves!

a Lefty and Billingsley to bookend this series. Keep the bats out, can’t afford them going to sleep against this Dodger pitching. Maybe the Kemp thing can work in their favor … and no appealing Kemp! That’s cheating the system and you know you’re not suppose to bump!

Victorino’s been playing left field for the Dodgers, with Kemp in center. Details, Carroll, details.

Hanson will be in a tough spot tonight. He has to match or come near the performance of Medlen while pitching against a much better hitting team than Medlen did in the Padres. That being said, if you read between the lines of the comments made by Chipper and other players on the team, they really like the way Medlen keeps the game moving by throwing strikes. Hanson,s games have become like pulling teath to watch. He nibbles because he no longerf can throw 92-95mph fastball and does not have the control of the fastball to spot it like Medlen. So he throws an inordinate amount of breaking balls that are not called strikes so there a numerous 3-2 counts, which makes the game seem so much longer.

These next ten games look to be the toughest part of the remaining schedule. The Braves seem to be playing their best team baseball at this time also. If the Braves go 8-2, I think the confidence factor alone would set the tone for a very deep run. EIGHT AND TWO!

I wonder how the AJC would view beat writers and columnists who turn in crappy articles that fail to attract readers for four months, then show signs of actually writing competently for a couple of weeks? I’m glad to see Dan is contributing offensively, but he’s still a huge risk to go cold again, like he did after his 2011 hitting streak.

Maybe the six-man rotation will work out, but I’m very skeptical in the extreme. If it’s costing Hudson, Medlen, and Maholm starts how does it contribute to catching the Nats? If Sheets, Minor, and Hanson need extra time off then one of them should skip a start and throw in the bullpen. If you make a case for six, why not seven? Eight? Because it doesn’t make sense.

“Capuano is the fifth left-handed starter the Braves have faced in their past seven games.” Thank you, Frank Wren.

Oh No Capuano!

How come the Brave’s can’t seem to beat this guy?Let’s hope he does worse than Hanson which won’t be easy to do!

I don’t care if McCann is 10 for 10 against Capuano, he has caught five games in a row and he is struggling at the plate so why not rest him tonight let him start tomorrow night against the righthander , then give him another day off against the lefthanded starter in Sunday’s day game after a night game.

McCann is 1 for 21. I think that his shoulder is much worse than reported. I’m going to give him another week and if he doesn’t turn it around, drop him from my fantasy teams.

Six man rotation could be good, or disaster. Braves should depend on Chipper to produce, considering it is his farewell season. He fared well last night, got my bobblehead. Actually it should be bobblehead night every night. Why stop what is working?

Above and beyond, McCann needs to WAKE UP, Uggla has

Let’s Go Braves!!!
