Francisco makes too many outs and hits poorly against lefties and does not play good D at all. If he starts regularly at third it will be a huge step back.
I think they are more likely to get a left fielder and go cheap on a good defensive center guy if (when) Bourn leaves

Yep, Rickey’s speech definitely raised my eyebrows.
Was he juicing? Dunno. Since he was on the As with Canseco and McGwire, there’s always that possibility.
I’m not surprised at all that he would stop at 2nd in order to steal 3rd.

Jerry – Bonds was a likely Hall of Famer without PEDS. No HR records but still HOF caliber. McGuire would have been the classic power hitter with a .240-.250 average and 30-50 HRs per year. Sosa was the one that underperformed early in his career and then all of a sudden took off. Those guys still would have been all stars but Bonds was special. That is why his decision to take PEDs baffles me. Only explaination is huge ego that did not want others taking the limelight

Sneaky Pete – If Francisco gets regular playing time next year it will be in LF as a platoon with someone like Reed Johnson. Prado will take over at 3rd full time.
If we could somehow sign Bourn and/or a top pitcher then we will likely have that platoon in LF

I don’t know why Barry did it an he’s the one that’s has to live with it. If I had to guess, there would be two reasons. One, he was the son of Bobby Bonds and he pushed Barry to be Barry. Second, maybe he wanted to get to the world series really badly. He came up just short twice in 1991 and 1992 and maybe that was enough to try something that would make him just a little bit better. Don’t know how close I am to the truth, but you are right. He had the HOF locked up without the juice. It’s a shame that he may never get there now.

Maholm was great tonight. 7IP 1ER and 7K. Pitched out of some jams. He will be a great 3-5 pitcher next year
In his last 10 games (9 starts) counting tonight: 68 IP, with a 1.19 ERA. Starting to become a pretty serious streak of excellence. Mostly against 2nd division teams, but includes great outings against AZ and Pit.
I don’t really expect him to be that good, but at some point you gotta acknowledge what he’s doing. Amazing.

I really think Barry saw all the attention and fame the two Steroid Gurus were getting chasing Maris and he probably thought ” I’m a better hitter than those 2 will ever be and if they can hit 60 plus homers takng that stuff I’ll hit more than them”
And he would have been and turned out to be right. Sosa or McGwire couldn’t compare to Barry as a player or hitter.
Problem is though any way you cut it they all cheated and stole from others. Stole is a harsh but accurate word!

Wren has said they’re making preparation to sign him.
Whether they will or not, that is another issue. I hope so. He’s been as good or better than advertised. Amazing trade last year, Wren!

McFann, yeah, I keep falling asleep, though, so definitely good rest. Post OP could have been much worse. My dad had surgery about four month back, when they had to go into his lung and cut out some junk building up, since he had pneumonia.
Back in boot, the worst part was just getting the Novacaine shot, it wasn’t too rough.

Mark, you could be right. Who’s knows, it could be one of those multiple choice test questions where the answer is D: All of the Above. Still, I’m probably one of the few non-Giant fans that really liked him and enjoyed watching him light up the sky. When everyone was saying, “hey Griffey Jr is the best player in baseball”, I was saying, “Barry is coming up fast in the rear view mirror.”
With that being said, everyone have a great night. I’ve had a great day. I don’t have cancer and the Braves won. Can’t get much better than that. Nite all!

I just could NOT be awake with them cutting up my gums. No way…hard enough for me to sit still during a cleaning. And what I put my parents through when Dad tried to pull my loose baby teeth…not proud of it…:)

I’m probably more anti-juice than most others because I grew up watching every Aaron AB I could watch or listening to Ernie and Milo giving play by play. Remeber the HR off Downing when he broke Ruths record and was jumping up and down as a kid so happy my hero at the time accomplished a great thing.
Then comes Barry and all the PED stuff. Just a bummer for me but it is what it is…

Capt.Mudd, I had to look this up because I had remembered reading it a while back about Sting and “Every Breath You Take”. The following line was taken from Sting’s Wikipedia page…..
“And also as of 2003, Sting was still taking in an average of $2000 per day in royalties for the then 20-year-old song.”

I pretty much agree Pete. Both seem to be narcissists. Insecure and need to feel respected and thought of as the very best, and act out when that does not occur. Their behavior patterns certainly began in anger and insecurity anyway. Barry has as much as admitted that he started using because he wanted to be thoughof as the best and resented the attention Sosa and Mac were getting when he considered them lesser players.
Like they say in the psych circles, negative attention is better than no attention.Variations of which explains much of the blog comments all over the net too

between venters/martinez/avilan standing and waiting for him to come in from RF so they could give him fist bumps
uggla patting his head as he ran out to 2B
freeman hanging out with him and signing the ball
ross/ski/someone else I couldnt tell gave him 5 as they ran past the dugout on the way out
medlen jumped out to give him 5 at the end of the dugout
then gearin gave him a fist bump when he headed out to the mound
cant forget the standard eddie perez/alan butts/other pitchers discussions throughout the game
and everybody left in the bullpen gave him fist bumps as they left
all in all not a bad day at the ball yard
oh yeah in between there was a baseball game and the braves won
