Wow, so Tommy Hanson has assumed the vital role of blog whipping boy. Things have been going well on the field, so I was concerned the blog might not have any Brave player to hate.
I’ve never been a huge Hanson fan… frustrates the heck out of me watching him pitch. But until July when his shoulder worsened, he was pitching pretty well. A 3.59 ERA through June.
And we’re insulted that he wants to get back to work instead of pitching a rehab game? I guess we should be glad he feels strong, and competitive (fire, heart, grit, you know… you guys talk about it all the time)
Anyway, we’ll see what happens. Personally, I’m fine with him coming back and moving Meds to the ‘pen, where he is very valuable. And if Tommy’s not able to get it done, go back to plan B. Nice to have options.
Anyway, just a (seemingly) lone voice of support for one our own, Tommy Hanson!
Professional ball means the best get the ball. I, like others, hate Hansons velo and command left him. Hopefully, he’ll get it back but for him to pull a Chipper and want to do no rehab start is a little much especially considering how well the others are going right now.
Blog always has to have several whipping boys. Hanson is obviously top dog now
sorry, all brilliant ML managers that opt to comment here instead of assuming their rightful place with a ML team have already anointed Fredi as no. 1 and already retired that number. line starts at 2.
So; When Hanson comes back, gets roughed up the first couple of innings, which I hoped to be wrong, I hope he pitches lights out, but there’s some kinda mound presence you sense w/ these others, the confidence, the fight in them to get after the hitters, that sense of you feelin good about the game because of the mound presence. Knowing how to pitch, kinda maddux/glavine type of surety out there, I see the fight, the Dog in the fight, whenever sheets, maholm,MEDLEN pitch’n, Huddy, if the bone spurs ain’t affecting his release point, but he’s a Bulldog, I hope Hanson mabey can bring the fight w/ him, prove all of us wrong, cause’ medlen gets with it. Minor has shown good movement, working faster gett’n right after the hitter’s as well. But if Tommy keeps the other team off balanced, then mabey he’s back. Right now, still cring’n over that arm slot he’s got. When he’s holding the ball in thatarm slot, the hitter’s can see the grip, & kinda get an idea to what’s com’n.
I know what you’re saying, 74bravesjersey. Good post. Medlen, Sheets and Maholm have been a breath of fresh air. We’ll see how that plays out… been facing some very weak offensive teams the last couple of weeks. But I’m sure hoping they all continue to pitch well.
Anyway, I have no problem with whichever way the Braves play it with Hanson – I’m not insisting that he be given his spot back ’cause I do understand your point. Just don’t like everyone turning so hard on a guy that came up through the system, has given a lot of value, and is dealing with an injury.
If Tommy is still topping out at 87, or whatever, we probably need to sit him the rest of the year and hope he can recover by next season. But if he’s back to early season form, then it’s a good problem to have.
If Medlen pitches lights out, gets another win, still goes to the pen for Hanson, & if Hanson gets knocked around, how long will this experiment last? Medlens pitches have good movement, in & out, changes speeds well, keeps hitters off balanced, & Hansons too much cheese, why not keep the hot hand in there? Will there be a short leash for Medlen if Hanson struggles? Mabey Hanson will come out gunz-a-blaz’n & be that stud everybody would love to see, but right now, Medlens a stud as far as I’m concerned. Out!
@MikeInFl; Point well taken Mike; & I’m not try’n to down the guy, I hope he comes back & be unbeatable, mabey a new approach has come his way, & he’s become reliable, counted on, I really hope so, but mabey w/ all the others doi’n so well, it causes him to step up his game, hope so.
If Medlen pitches lights out, gets another win, still goes to the pen for Hanson, & if Hanson gets knocked around, how long will this experiment last?
Why you worried about it? We’ll see how things pan out. Obviously if Hanson is getting hit hard in his first couple starts, Medlen will be placed back in. All depends.
And Tommy “I throw 89 mph straight as an arrow Fastballs and nit pick to death” Hanson will push Medlen back to the pen. It’s going to happen, unfortunately.
Looking at the rotation at this moment, Hanson is still the weak link. Maholm is in the rotation as is Sheets. Minor has looked strong lately – robbed by the rain in his only short outing. I do not think that Hanson deserves a spot right now over those 3. That in my book leaves Hanson versus Huddy. Could Huddy use a 2 week DL stint to help his ankle? That would get us to September where it is easy to go to a 6 man rotation with extended rosters
That’s why Uggla should bat in front of McCann. Uggla is not a base stealer but is a very good baserunner. Mac has kept him from taking an extra base a bunch of times this year.
FG might be a marble mouth at interviews, he might be a golden corral golden member, and he might be fooled by twitter, but he’s proven to me that he’s worlds better at playing the right players and making out more effective lineups than cox.
Only major issues with FG are playing struggla too much and playing Francisco. Roadrunner should be at AAA w his garbage OBP
Just assigned my students an essay so I can listen to the game without interruption for a half hour…had to stop listening for a couple of minutes to go over the math section we just did…
hope Meds can pitch better than Huddy did when he had a big lead. He’s pitched great since coming to the rotation so hopefully we won’t have to worry about it
If I were the Mets owner I’d have words with Collins leaving that guy out there like that that long! No excuse to leave a guy like Santana out there to get knocked around. Embarrassing for the coaches!!
