J Nick — and I will take the draft pick over a Kotchman/Marek return.
Cause the other teams who pick up a pending FA will offer less than that cause they will not even get the draft pick.
The Angels did not exactly bust up their system by trading for Grienke, & he might be a fit over there long term.
Have to hope they make the most out of all the picks they have cause Bourn is not the first player that they won’t sign.
Moving a player in his pending FA yr is thankless.

Wren is X on my Christmas card list. If I were the owners I would have fired him after the 2010 season.

Lowe was bad because most new he was close to done. Got him because of innings he’d thrown but geez.
KK was a wierd deal. Supposedly a strike machine in Japan and gets over here and can hardly throw a strike. It was blamed on the different balls or the special mud that gets rubbed on them here. I think it was more that he didn’t want to throw it over the plate because they got ripped!

Wren has made the playoffs 1 out 4 years thus far. we had the 2nd best record in the NL at the ASB in 2010 and Wren ruined the team by trading Escobar and Blanco for low obp garbage. This was the final straw for me with Wren. He’s garbage. And then we collapse in 2011. And in 2012 we are hopeful of a wild card spot.
I dont know about you, but i have much higher expectations than attempting to compete for a wild card. Expectations should have been much higher considering the gold mine that wren walked into even taking into account the tex deal. None of those players had been mainstays on our mlb roster before.
It’s going to get much worse with Wren as gm

Kawakami actually pitched pretty well in 2009. Go back and check the numbers, and don’t rely on your biases against him due to his poor W-L record. Only problem with him that year was he didn’t go deep into games often enough, but he pitched as well as Hanson has this year. And better overall than Minor and Delgado have.

I say the Braves pursue Roger Bernadina in the off season. He’s literally a 5th OF if the Nats pursue and acquire Born like some on here feel certain they will. They have Werth, Harper and Morse, and someone on here said last night that they might trade Roachy and move Morse to 1B, but I can’t see that happening as Roachy has been perhaps their MVP and his contract is a steal. Bernandina is having his best season at 28, gives you super speed, can bunt, score from 1st, triples,run down practically any fly ball and many linedrives, steal bases. I know teams don’t generally trade within their division, but that’s my 2 cents worth.

I just don’t understand what drives someone to troll – especially when the team they’re trolling about is gaining momentum, has the 5th best record in the game, and has a decent shot to do well…are you just angry all the time? What about ESPN not showing the Braves highlights on Sporcenter late night yesterday … and at the end they apologized to Washington for not showing theirs as well but failed to do the same for us???
I must have a compulsive thing vs. ESPN but is it uncanny that they do strange things regarding the Atlanta Braves? Outside of Linda Kohn who hates us bc she is a Met fan but the ESPN thing is frustrating to me as a Brave fan.
Would have been nice to have the ESPN announcer say apologies to both Washington and Atlanta due to the Olympic coverage we didnt get to your highlights. They were nice enough to address the Nats but the ATL/YNM game??? Nothing. Hmmm..

Fredi said Braves would meet to discuss pitching plans and make decision in next few days, whether to go with five- or six-man rotation, but if it’s latter it’ll only be six for the duration of this 19-game-in-19-day stretch, which is down to 16 games after tonight.
Said they really don’t know yet who’d get bumped, but that how everyone’s pitching will be a big consideration.

Those planning to attend Braves’ Sept. 16 Sunday home game vs. Nats, there’s a strong chance that’ll be moved to 8 p.m. ESPN game, too. And Braves’ game a week later at Philly might be moved to Sunday night game.
The Aug. 26 game at San Fran has already been switched to Sunday night.

I don’t love every move Wren has made, but the guy is operating with a very strict budget. He has no choice but to take a few chances and hope they pan out. Some do, some don’t. Doesn’t mean the man is bad at his job.

If I am GM I am not satisfied building a team that is a wild card contender. I build a team to compete for division titles. And that means spending wisely and making sound trades. Wren is a mediocre at best gm. If you’re just happy making the playoffs every once a while and getting bounced first round that’s sad.

Will you call this season a success after a first round exit? I call that failure.
Next season not looking too promising with Chipper about to exit, hole in CF and a struggling second baseman. Major question marks in the rotation.
It will be an absolutely critical offseason for this franchise. Why should we be in the least confident with Wren at the helm. I am scared to death that he has $ to spend. Another drunk lowe signing? KK Signing? McOut trade? Loaf anderson signing?
Go look at the FA list this upcoming offseason. It’s a sad list. It’s not like we have a major talent pool to trade from either….

I’m holding out hope the Braves make the post season. Unlike the past two years, this year looks like they might have a chance to win a little bit.
I wasn’t upset last year when they missed the playoffs the way they were playing. They’d have gotten spanked in three games.

Do you think the window to negotiate a more club friendly deal with McCann exists this off-season? We can offer him a chance to make more money now. I’d look at a front-loaded contract that becomes more club friendly at the back-end.
