glad Fredi and Uggla don’t have twitter accounts –

Bobby Wilson spent his off day Thursday lamenting all the guff he’s taken as the Angels’ backup catcher. He got so tired of it he quit Twitter.

This is what he tweeted from his account, @BW46, at 10:57 a.m.:

“I’m done with twitter. Try to be fan friendly and all I get is criticism. I wasn’t blessed with 5 tools. I worked hard to get here.”
.
.
Angels fans and others certainly are urging him to stay. Fox Sports West play-by-play guy Victor Rojas, who knows something about mixing it up with unruly tweeps, wrote: “@BW46 Dude, don’t let the barking dogs w no bite get you down. Bark back & keep doing what ur doing… ”

Being a #1 and being an ace are two different things.

On an different note, Tyrann Mathieu has been dismissed from LSU. As an Auburn/SEC fan, thank goodness I don’t have to hear all the hype about him all year. He has to be one of the most overrated cover corners in college football.

from Buster Olney –

The bottom line is that the no team has a harder budget than the Braves, who are like cadets at a military school. They are given an allowance and cannot and do not spend beyond that, which means the improvements made by their team this season — the signing of Ben Sheets and the trades for Paul Maholm, Reed Johnson and Paul Janish – are the product of great work by their baseball operations department.

Yes, it never hurts to have good pitching and Greinke would probably help us. But, like several others here, I think the money involved in signing him would be exorbitant. He seems to have an inflated sense of his value.

Just got to ballpark, 90 minutes after leaving my hotel. A tale of profuse sweating in a packed, stalled 7 train, a cab ride in weather-clogged NYC traffic, and standing outside waiting for someone to let me in the ballpark….

OK, gotta get to work on a new blog. Don’t know if we’ll play tonight or not. I’d guess no, but every time we think they won’t play, they usually do.

DBac Mac-

A) I highly doubt thats possible…..but even if its close….Greinke doesn’t have shoulder + back problems AND he’s played on much lesser quality teams….

Hard to gauge a true reading on comparison when Hanson should have many less W’s and Greinke should have many more.

Given what I have seen in the last year, I doubt you could even put them in the same category and scouts would agree w/ me….

No one is trading for Hanson down the stretch to help their rotation

Anyways, I’m still holding out hope that he comes here. Oh, how happy I’d be.

I’d like the Braves to be within 2 games of Washington by the time they visit on August 20th. That could involve the Braves going 7-3, and the Nationals 4-5, or some other permutation.

The Braves have 3 in New York, then host 4 against the Padres and 3 against the Dodgers.
The Nationals travel to Arizona and San Francisco for three, then host the Mets for three games.

The obstacle in the way of a trade for Shields would be the major league assets the Braves would be able to offer. TB needs position players at 1B, C, DH, SS, and potentially 2B or corner OF(depends on where Zobrist plays). They don’t really need pitching with Price, Moore, Hellickson, Cobb, Niemann in the bigs and Archer and Torres close to ready.
