Disgusted sounds like a guy from the Early 1900s, aka the Stone Age. (no offense meant)
Fastball last years 92-96, this year 90-93, curveball has taken a giant step back, biggest thing I see is fastball command.
Not good. As Efrim said, it does not compute. Don’t think he’s garbage though. Wouldn’t mind trading him this offseason if it’s for a good player under control…
August 9th, 201210:17 pm
DisgustedL Sims has just started his professional career. He’s freaking 18 years old. Let him pitch for a bit.
Yes, you are clearly living in the 16th century – I feel sorry for any females you come in contact with…
August 9th, 201210:18 pm
I think his average velocity is around 92-93 this year. That’s fine and I don;t mind him taking a few ticks off. He never sat 95-98 or something. It;s the command that has been terrible and his breaking ball has always been inconsistent. Pitching coach from Gwinnett said he is working through mechanical issues, but he could be hurt. That’s always a possibility. He’s never had arm trouble though. We’ll see.
All I know is that it would be foolish to think he is done all of a sudden. Wren needs to take him off of the table in any talks this winter. Teams will be trying to get him to sell low and it’s just not maximizing this kids value to trade him. Be stupid, unless some team would overpay for Teheran and I don’t see that happening.
August 9th, 201210:19 pm
Sims Minor league Numbers to Date:
1-2 2.33 ERA, 7 Games started,19.1 IP, 11 Hits, 6 Runs, 5 ER, 2 HR allowed, 7BB, 18 SO and a .159 Opponent BA.
So pardon me if I don’t follow you in calling the kid a scrub (bust). He’s doing quite well so far. He’s allowed to have a stinker
August 9th, 201210:20 pm
I agree with all who want to keep Pastor on the roster. I have nightmares remembering Rafi Belliard bunting with runners on 1st and third in the playoffs, no one out (Cox idea) BECAUSE HE COULD NOT EVEN HIT A SAC FLY. OF used to play him at little league depth.
August 9th, 201210:21 pm
Julio Teheran (6-7) gave up 8 H, 6 R (5 ER), 1 BB w/ 3 K in 4 IP of another Triple-A loss tonight, ERA climbs to 5.35.
August 9th, 201210:22 pm
August 9th, 2012
Can someone tell me how a pitcher can go from being one of the best RH pitching prospects in the sport to garbage in a few months? Really appreciate it. Thanks.
if I had to bet I’d say it’s in his head more than anything else.
With his attitude, I’d feel sorry for any person he meets, not just females.
August 9th, 201210:23 pm
With Beachy coming back at mid season, could we live next year with a rotation of Hudson, Maholm, Sheets (if we can get him for somewhere close to Maholm’s money) plus Medlen and Minor, and trade Hanson and Delgado for a major bat???
August 9th, 201210:25 pm
Technically you are right. Prospects are just that. Prospects. There is always a chance that they blow up. Hope that this isn’t the case with Teheran…. to think of all the guys we could have gotten with him.
I agree with all who want to keep Pastor on the roster.
Sweet. Join the club mate!
Julio Teheran …. ERA climbs to 5.35.
Getting JJ like.
August 9th, 201210:27 pm
manolo: We possibly could, if Minor really steps up his game. I don’t feel all that comfy with Huddy “having” to be our #1. If Sheets is returning, then it’s doable. I still want an “ace”. Y’all regulars know who I’m gonna name…
August 9th, 201210:28 pm
I was sort of joking CAB — But I do not agree with a women reffing an NFL game.
That is a boys club and its worked over the yrs — why change?????
August 9th, 201210:29 pm
Why change? Because it’s 2012 and there are plenty of women that can officiate a pro football game. And the “sort of” joking is not a whole lot better than not joking at all…
August 9th, 201210:30 pm
Teheran might not even reach Hanson status right now in his career. Yikes!
Exactly – this country ran much better before women could vote…
August 9th, 201210:31 pm
What I really want to see is women playing football… that’d be awesome. Hell, a women pitcher would be cool as well.
These sports need to “pretty up”. The guys in the sport aren’t as handsome anymore, and it’s kinda sad that you have to look away from the game to see a pretty face
August 9th, 201210:32 pm
barefoot and pregnant is the onliest way……
Okay The Only Braves Fan, you got me on the facts on Sims.
He is a kid who we might see in 4 yrs if he is good. I hope he does not hit a brick wall like Teheran.
He could be good trade bait for a decent low cost player, but low cost players have value, you have to give for those guys.
Like a Chase Headley, it would take more than Teheran to get him cause of his team friendly contract.
The Nats are making it harder for the Astros comeback…4-0 in the 8th…
August 9th, 201210:33 pm
manolo, first off, I’m not in favor of trading Delgado (unless for a king’s ransom). I think he’s gonna be very solid as soon as next year. But I’m not calling him “untouchable.”
But that aside… the rotation you throw out for next year would probly be workable. Problem is, Hudson is likely gone after next year; Maholm’s not under contract after ‘13; can’t count on Sheets being around past next year, if that.
Trade Hanson and Delgado, and what do you have in 2014… Beachy (hopefully a successful return), Minor, Medlen, Gilmartin, Spruill… hopefully Teheran, I guess. Pretty young, pretty thin.
August 9th, 201210:34 pm
2nd Morse HR…first one was up on the train tracks…
VJ: Well, come to think of it, this country has had 3 recessions (including the Great Depression) since women got the vote… terrorism started after that as well… It’s all womens’ fault.
August 9th, 201210:35 pm
Well, I do not want to see the NFL prettied up. I am turned off by sideline reporters during the game (iincludes both women and men).
And VJ, I am not going there on the voting issue. There are a few women I would want in the white house over what we have now, but not going into politics for this blog.
I just do not want women referettes.
August 9th, 201210:37 pm
Okay The Only Braves Fan, you got me on the facts on Sims.
Glad to help. Facts are very important you know.
Onliest way? That better not be about me
Pretty young, pretty thin.
Indeed it is. Can’t count on those guys to be effective when they come up either… We need a veteran/proven SP.
So much for the Falcons superbowl hopes — this second half is a disaster.
More like 6-10 ???????? Never know.
August 9th, 201210:39 pm
I love Stolen Bases!!!
Ben Badler @BenBadler
Billy Hamilton drops a bunt single followed by his 133rd stolen base. Only 12 away from Vince Coleman’s record.
cait live without them, sumbodys gotta cook and clean the bathroom right?
You forgot obediant Nolie.
August 9th, 201210:40 pm
Despite your efforts to make yourself sound reasonable, the idea that female referees “pretty football up” is highly offensive to someone who coached championship teams which consisted of females…
August 9th, 201210:41 pm
Why pretty up a dirty gritty game like football.
If we have to have a woman referette, at least have her look, talk, and act ugly and nasty like Rosie O’Donell
August 9th, 201210:43 pm
For me it’s can’t live without them or I’ll keep myself all nerded and baseballed up…. ladies give me balance.
Mike inFL, I you make a good point. However, If we don’t have Sheets (around 6 million), Maholm (around 6 more), and Huddy around 9 million more, that kind of money can easilly give you a big name starter and another arm if needed. I will only make a Hanson and Delgado trade if it will net us a Mc cutchen (RH bat and the type of player who’s getting better each year). Or we could just give up Hanson (who still will be a great arm and over 10 game winner) for a less impact hitter. I have a friend of mine that is a Red Sox fan that told me they will give us Ellsbury for Hanson easily. Any thoughts? Maybe Nelson Cruz?? Hard to tell…
August 9th, 201210:44 pm
cab just texted me that she is now staying away from the blog before she gets us both banned – I certainly understand how prejudiced and misogynistic and disgusting (pun intended) comments make her want to go crazy…
August 9th, 201210:46 pm
she thinks folks are being serious?
August 9th, 201210:48 pm
Never saw any women making comments like this:
May 5th, 2012
Minor has to go–he is on his way to becomming another Jo Jo Reyes.
Bumb–I would trade Minor straight up for Moyer in a heartbeat.
Minor will never be ten percent of the pitcher that Moyer has been .
A loss comming up tonight, thanks alot Braves pitching and defense. And Freeman should be on the next plane to Mississipi or Gwinnett. He deserves to be Booed. He is DH in waiting since he has zero range in the field.
nolie – not you…
August 9th, 201210:50 pm
Nolie: Disgusted made those comments… Unfortunately, that means that likely believes it.
Really, anyone who takes something on a blog to heart, well, that is their problem.
And that number 14 QB better be gone ASAP cause he is terrible. QB depth is a problem, and they did not upgrade that postion in the off season.
If we were to lose Ryan it will be 6-10 and even worse.
August 9th, 201210:53 pm
again – something is up with Teheran. Agree that fastball commad has been his biggest pitfall this year. Also includes command in the strikezone. You don’t dominate one league one year and then fall apart on it the next if it is just a lack of ability.
Mechanics are likely a big issue but I wonder if there is a psychologic issue as well. Teheran destroyed AAA last year and his reward – back in AAA. Has to be a huge letdown. Wonder if he developed some bad habits early on and this season is sunk for him.
Braves need to do one of two things – one the aforementioned pull him from AAA to work with pitching coaches, develop consistency with fastball command, develop off speed pitches and then make some starts in the AFL
Put him in the bullpen for 2-3 weeks telling Teheran that if he does well in September then he will be up in September and possibly through the playoffs if he is effective in the bullpen. Keeps his pitch count down and will let him focus on the fastball command first and foremost with less pressure on the off speed pitches. If successful, build on the fastball command in the offseason by having him work off his fastball while gaining more mastery of his changeup and curveball (curveball looked the best I have ever seen it in his start versus Toronto)
well if she thinks some are, i guess i shouldn’t have stirred the pot. sorry
August 9th, 201210:55 pm
I’m not sure how much, if any, of what Disgusted says that he really believes
No, it is your problem, because she is a normal and wonderful person, and you are a pathetic loser – no offense intended…
Framework for potential 4-team trade that sends Dwight Howard to @Lakers »
August 9th, 201210:56 pm
nolie – I am sure he believes it…
August 9th, 201210:57 pm
VJ: You meant to say that he’s a BUMB and deserves to be Booed
I’m quite sure that cab is a nicer and cooler person that Disgusted, and I haven’t even met either of you. (no offense meant)
August 9th, 201210:58 pm
You don’t know me VJ and I do not know her.
What you say does not offend me cause I don;t care. So its not my problem.
August 9th, 201211:00 pm
The Astros putting off the comeback for an awfully long time tonight…but a one out walk in the 9th, down 5…
Hey, I was dead wrong on that May 5th post so what.
So be it.
August 9th, 201211:02 pm
You seem to be wrong a lot Disgusted, to be honest.
August 9th, 201211:03 pm
You did provide the guys I am teaching amusement, you will be happy to know. I read your post and they were amazed, as relative newcomers to this country, that people have such ignorant ideas here…
And I am sure you don’t care, because people who hate other people are certainly unlikely to care about anyone else except themselves…
manolo — Hanson for Ellsbury????
Ellsbury would be here only for one yr and you know his agent. If he has a good yr next yr Mr. Boras is taking him away.
Not that I am aganst moving Hanson for a decent return.
August 9th, 201211:04 pm
And a single and a DP and so go the ‘Stros…
August 9th, 201211:07 pm
Kick the ‘Stros out of baseball… They sukk.
August 9th, 201211:08 pm
Go on and embellish it VJ, and call it hate cause I do not hate anyone nor were any of my comments directed at hate toward anybody.
So make of it what you want.
August 9th, 201211:12 pm
Interesting – the comment which started the commotion is gone…
August 9th, 201211:17 pm
And I didn’t even have to report it…
Hope cab’s doing okay (sure she is anyway)
August 9th, 201211:23 pm
TOBF – cab is good – eating ice cream and watching diving (or so I have been informed)…
August 9th, 201211:38 pm
Back to the end of Sink the Bismarck as the guys do some Geometry…
August 9th, 201211:43 pm
VJ…….Just on and reading several posts that appear unfortunate. Sorry you have to continually explain that Cab is a nice, charming women with a very pragmatic and entertaining take on baseball in general.
August 9th, 201211:46 pm
@cabravesfan…..hope your evening is going great, I too, am viewing Olympic action and eating Key Lime Pie Frozen Yogurt.
Capt – no, he said nothing negative about cab – just some general thoughts I took issue with…
August 9th, 201211:47 pm
And, in a shocking turn of events, I might have become a bit rhetorically overheated…
Publix brand Capt?
August 9th, 201211:51 pm
I played basketball in college and we had two female refs. They did a great job. In fact I would put them ahead of quite a few of the men.
August 9th, 201211:56 pm
@VJ….Rhetorically overheated……like when a auto radiator overheats and the steampressure has to go somewhere lest it hisses and whines in an effort to find relief—so, VJ immediately consume eight ounces of Prestone anti-freeze….LOL——-:)
August 9th, 201211:57 pm
@Noliee….The Publix “Premium”
August 9th, 201211:58 pm
what is it now, 4.5 GB?
We are obviously sinking fast……
WHOA! Is that the real ACE???
yum. good stuff. almost as good as their award winning Key Lime pie itself.
August 10th, 201212:05 am
gee. ACE being nice shocked TOBF so much he got scairt and run off…..
August 10th, 201212:08 am
just wrong to think someone can’t do a job because they are female.
August 10th, 201212:09 am
Didn’t mean to scare anyone
August 10th, 201212:15 am
Be glad that you are not an Orlando Magic fan for the next few yrs — did you see the garbage they are getting back for Howard?
One of the players is the old retreaded Hawk Al Harrington. Did not know he was still in the league.
Poor Magic fans, they cannot keep good players there. First it was Shaq and this time they lose Howard to the stinking Lakers.
The salary cap really did the NBA not a heck alot of good, they all want to be Lakers anyway, that is why I am not so hot on the NBA. Too much a players’ league.
Hawks can still win 41 games but wait till Josh jumps ship. Then where are we?????? Can’t do much with salary room if players do not want to come here.
August 10th, 201212:18 am
vj, getting kind of chippie in here.
how about this fact. i keep coming back to this one.
1st base, second base, shortstop, and left field have only hit to two yicetys, since the break. \\
and we are winning.
As the Captain of the King George V watches theBismarck sinking, I keep expecting him to start singing “Everybody Ought to Have a Maid”…
August 10th, 201212:24 am
Revised edition……Everybody ought to have it made.
August 10th, 201212:34 am
Makin’ it with the maid….
August 10th, 201212:48 am
Oh boy…..’midnight snacks’ after a recent trip to Noliex, I mean Publix…..There sit 2 full unopened boxes of Tastykake chocolate cup cakes….each box contains 8 pks of 2 Cup cakes. Yes, I took the liberty of opening a box and consuming 2 pks. with a hearty glass of whole milk. Now I am too full and, at bed time…I am wide eyed…..just didn’t need to do that, blew the diet portion again, lost a bit of self-control…….I guess I’m flat disgusted, so I’ll say good night before I say something unfair to myself and the blog at-large.
August 10th, 201212:59 am
Down to the last half hour of tonight’s marathon session…
August 10th, 20121:12 am
Tyler Kepner @TylerKepner
RA Dickey is 15-3. Only one pitcher has ever been 15-3 at the end of a season: fellow knuckler Hoyt Wilhelm in 1952.
August 10th, 20121:22 am
Another 11 hour workday about to come to a close – I suspect the computer will not be turned on again until tomorrow morning…
August 10th, 20121:53 am
Hello everyone! What’s wrong with Disgusted. I know I might be nervous lately, but man disgusted is being disgusted. I think Minor, will be a good one! He’s putting up solid outings with little run support, and he’s pitching better against good teams. That’s a good sign of being a good pitcher next year.
August 10th, 20122:00 am
I’m just concerned that the Braves hitting will tank again, but I’m going to remain calm during all this, and ride the wave…….
August 10th, 20122:02 am
well at least we will let Augusta alone.
August 10th, 20122:11 am
great thing about this team is we are working the on base thing.
we are barely slugging ,400.
August 10th, 20122:16 am
uga – brave – I like the fact the Braves are hitting now. Just not getting my hopes up! Too much can happen from now until the Playoffs. Happy the Brave are playing well, just taking the calm approach.
August 10th, 20122:23 am
ward, they are playing the best i have scene, they are scoring without the benefit of the dinger.
think about this.
four position guys have not gone yard since the all star break.
1st base, 2nd, ss, and left field have only hit two. freeman.
only freeman has gone deep.
August 10th, 20122:27 am
four positions have gone zero. only freeman has gone yicetty.
ss, 2nd , and lf have not dingerd since the break.
gotta figure that will even out.
August 10th, 20122:33 am
gotta a hunch thunder dan will start hitting dingers. just a matter of time.
the guy bust his but everytime out there, we are lucky too have him.
August 10th, 20122:34 am
The question is the hitting enough to get the Braves deep into the Postseason? All signs are good, but that always that concern, and would love the Braves to win the Wild Card this year, and go beyound. There’s just that one question. Is the hitting enough? Remember, Dodgers, San Francisco, and the Nats are in the way.
August 10th, 20122:41 am
hate all you want but uggs is hitting ,257 with risp.
macc is hitting ,181.
uga -brave – Good talking….. I’m happy the Braves are playing good, and time will only tell. Nothing would make me more happier than to see the Braves in the Postseason. Peace my friends, and “Go!!!!!Braves!!!!!”

Braves would host Pirates in wild-card “play-in”
I’d rather face them in a one gamer than the Cardinals.
I wouldn’t underestimate the Pirates. They’ve played well against the Braves for the past few seasons now.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
