IN one of those wins, they had a 4-1 lead in the 7th. You mean those Nats? They are good! But, we will see if they handle the pressure down the stretch when Strasburg isn’t going every 5th day, and the other young guys hit the wall. I am not counting on that, but if we can keep pressure on them, who knows? Keep playing well Bravos and beating the teams we are supposed to beat.

take 3/4 against the Pads, beating the teams you’re suppose to beat. And then go on the road and split with the Giants by matching good pitching against good pitching. And that’s how you turn 2 four game series into 5-3 success
Aw c’mon Jeff, the Nats TV announcers have already given them the rings and trophy, and are preparing Harper’s plaque for his HOF induction. You’ve got to get with the program – LOL
The Braves now lead the NL in walks, with 389 and are 3rd in the league with a .328 team OBP. Since July 3rd (32 games), the Braves have an excellent .343 OBP, with a whole lot of walks (139).
That’s how the Braves are scoring 5 runs a game over the last month, while only slugging just over .400 as a team.
The Braves have been successful on 35 of their last 39 stolen base attempts, dating back to June 9th. They are 3rd in the NL in SB sucess rate (79.5%). 75% is the number stat folks tend to say is a good benchmark.
The Braves have won 12 of 15, winning 8 of those by 5 or more runs. That means less of Craig Kimbrel lately. While it is a little disappointing not having the pleasure of watching young Mr. K pitch a lot, he is going to be a lot fresher down the stretch, and into the postseason.
Brian Is there a stat that shows how often we score from 1B compared to other teams.
Yes…the Braves have scored from first base on a double 32 times, which is tied for the league lead. They have done it a lot lately. It would take a little more work to find out how many times they’ve scored from first on a triple, compared to other teams. Heyward scored from first on a single the other day, so you can go ahead and add that to the total.
Last year, Craig Kimbrel had the second-most games (18) all-time in which he pitched an inning or less, allowed no baserunners, and struck out two or more.
This year, Kimbrel already has 17 such games. The all-time record is 21, set by a juiced-up Eric Gagne in 2003.
The Braves have scored 5 times from first base on a triple. Add that to the doubles and singles, and you get 38 times a Brave has scurried home from first base. They have scored 36 times from first on homers, but that’s not all that interesting.
The Braves have scored 5 times from first base on a triple. Add that to the doubles and singles, and you get 38 times a Brave has scurried home from first base.
Pretty sure this makes the Braves 3rd in the league behind San Diego (42) and St. Louis (40). They have scored from first in triples 11 and 13 times, respectively.
If you only are concerned about motoring around from first on doubles (or singles), the Braves lead the NL in that, with 33.
The Rangers and Josh Hamilton will hold off on contract negotiations until the end of the season, sources tell Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.
I could totally see the Dodgers offering Hamilton something like six years and 150 million to play LF for them. A middle of the order of Hanley Ramirez, Hamilton, Kemp, and Ethier would be something.
Braves also lead the league in “bases taken” on plays such as fly balls, passed balls, wild pitches, etc. And they’re next to last in “outs on bases,” meaning they don’t make many mistakes on the basepaths.
In general, a very good base-running team. Also a very good defensive team. Are we sure these are the Atlanta Braves?
Since interleague play ended (June 26th), the Braves have only lost two series: one to Washington, one to San Francisco. They have won eight series, including five in a row, over that span, and tied two (one to Washington, one to the Cubs).
I still think the Dodgers have more than a passing interest in Cliff Lee.
He’s owed $87.5 million over the next three seasons and the Phillies aren’t giving him away. I don’t see it. I suppose if the Dodgers were willing to include Zach Lee and Allen Webster, the Phillies would be open to that. However I can’t see the Dodgers taking on that contract AND giving away their top two pitching prospects.
The Dodgers definitely have the money to go in whatever direction they please
Just a quick sense of reality – Dodgers have 135 million committed to the 2013 roster, already. Adding Lee jumps them up to 160 and we haven’t discussed AJ Ellis’ first year arb. number and ya know, the other 12 players on the roster. If they want to add Lee or Hamilton or Greinke – they are going into the luxury tax. And maybe they can structure a Hamilton or Greinke contract so that it’s backloaded, as they do have lots of money coming off of the books after next season.
Freeman since thumb injury: .318/.416/.497/.913 noticed this… during that time his K/BB ratio is one. 23 BB, 23 K. Very stark difference from the beginning of the season when it was declared his swing rate was going to kill him this year. He did have 27Ks to 5 walks and was leading the majors at that point.
Not thinking Medlen, Venters, O’Flaherty, or Minor go.
I was just pointing out what assets we have that, I think, Wren would be open to dealing away for the right player or prospect. I don’t think Medlen or Minor go. I would be surprised if EOF wasn’t traded. Prime sell high candidate.
Dodgers have 135 million committed to the 2013 roster,
Sheeeesh. I haven’t paid attention to them for a bit. That payroll ballooned! Eh, they can afford it. They get rid of James Loney and put a real first baseman in that line up and they’ll be a hard team to stop.
He’s [Lee's] owed $87.5 million over the next three seasons and the Phillies aren’t giving him away. I don’t see it. I suppose if the Dodgers were willing to include Zach Lee and Allen Webster, the Phillies would be open to that. However I can’t see the Dodgers taking on that contract AND giving away their top two pitching prospects.
I think the Dodgers are the Yankees-West now. Budget isn’t an enormous constraint.
The Phillies need to unload budget, and Lee is a candidate to go, in that he’s more marketable than those Phillies’ position players that are under big contracts and have injury histories. And pitching is always a premium, and Lee, despite an off year, is still a very talented vet pitcher.
The Phils may be willing to eat a portion of Lee’s contract to get more budget room. And they may be willing to take something less than the Dodgers two key pitching prospects to open up their budget.
Their 2013 payroll is $135 but that drops to $74 mil in 2014. They could acquire someone like Lee backload the deal since Lily will be gone after 2013. Just one example
The Phils may be willing to eat a portion of Lee’s contract to get more budget room. And they may be willing to take something less than the Dodgers two key pitching prospects to open up their budget.
So, Amaro is going to trade Lee(the guy he and ownership signed) and eat some of his dollars AND not receive the Dodgers top prospects in return.
I don’t know, man. Halladay is a free agent after 2013, Utley is as well. They have payroll flexibility coming.
I’m guessing the Angels will throw scads of money at Greinke to stay in Anaheim. Plus, playing in Anaheim (Orange County south of Los Angeles) is a world apart From L.A. Orange County’s a better fit for Greinke, I think.

Yes…both big reasons why they have been successful this year.

Although they did just dump 40million+ on Yasel Puig and he’s probably their future LF.

Not thinking Medlen, Venters, O’Flaherty, or Minor go.
Hanson… to fill what need? I think a case can be made either way for Hanson staying or going.
Delgado. Quite possibly. Wren was willing to send Delgado to the Cubs’ in the ill-fated (and ill-advised) Dempster deal.

Uggla for the month of August: .346/.414/.500/914
Freeman since thumb injury: .318/.416/.497/.913 noticed this… during that time his K/BB ratio is one. 23 BB, 23 K. Very stark difference from the beginning of the season when it was declared his swing rate was going to kill him this year. He did have 27Ks to 5 walks and was leading the majors at that point.

I was just pointing out what assets we have that, I think, Wren would be open to dealing away for the right player or prospect. I don’t think Medlen or Minor go. I would be surprised if EOF wasn’t traded. Prime sell high candidate.

Sheeeesh. I haven’t paid attention to them for a bit. That payroll ballooned! Eh, they can afford it. They get rid of James Loney and put a real first baseman in that line up and they’ll be a hard team to stop.
