Shut down, door-slammin’ work by the ‘pen. 4 2/3 innings, 1 hit, 1 walk, 6 Ks. Love it. And great to see Uggla becoming dangerous again.
Worried about Huddy though. Will watch for the quotes tonight, see what he’s got to say. We need him healthy and tuned in down the stretch.

Hudson proves again the braves don’t have a #1 starter in their rotation. This is the second time this season he has blown a lead of 4 or more runs. Hanson has done the same thing this season. So if braves somehow get into the playoffs with one of the wildcard spots, who do they start in the one game playoff? It’s hard to win in the playoffs without one dominant starter, and unfortunately Hudson and Hanson are nowhere close to being dominant.

Miscounted on the Padres … 7 games
So, if the Braves lose all the games to the good teams and win all the games against the bad teams, then they will go 35-16 over the final games with a final record of 99-63.
If the Braves break even against the good teams (8-8) and play .667 ball against the bad teams (23-12), they’ll end with 95-67 record.
Barring a rash of injuries, I think it’s reasonable to think the Braves win more than 90 games this year.
92 would be my low water mark.

If the Nats lose all the games against the good teams and win all the games against the poor teams, they would be 97-65.
If they split against the good teams (11-11) and play .667 versus the bad teams (19-10) they would be 98-64.
Nats are going to have to under-perform or Braves are going to have to over-achieve to flip the standings. But, both teams should make the playoffs.

Man oh man tonight was really a huge win for many reason. I have to say it would have been great to win 6-1 and I am sure everyone would have been very happy with that outcome. But in a way the fact that the Phillies score 5 runs in the B5 to tie the game up and then for the Braves to come back in top of 7 and score 4 runs. Make this win even more big most teams would have go and on lose the game after giving up 5 runs to tie the game. And his is Dan Uggla is really start to play much better hopefully he can keep this up. Also Congrats to David Ross on getting his first ever SB. Tonight was a good night because the Cards are about to lose which would put them 4 games out. So Yes it would be great to take over first place in the east and you but in order to do that we got to keep winning series which we did tonight .Now Looking at the upcoming series with the Mets. I really think that we can sweep the Mets but if we end up taking 2 out 3 from them that would not be bad either. Just keep on winning Braves

The word “rhubarb” just came up in vocabulary with my Korean students – I explained about the vegetable, found pictures, then pointed out the baseball usage – could not remember the origin, so I had to look it up:
Legendary Brooklyn Dodgers broadcaster Red Barber first used rhubarb on-air to describe a baseball altercation in 1943.
He said he heard it from reporter Garry Shumacher, who picked it up from another reporter, Tom Meany, who learned it from an unnamed Brooklyn bartender.
The anonymous bartender used it to describe an incident in his establishment when a Brooklyn fan shot a Giants fan.
And that’s how rhubarb became baseball slang for a fight or argument.
