TOBFI didn’t realize that BMac had stolen as many bases as he had for his career. 21! And he’s never been caught more than he’s stolen. Nice.
HECK yeah! He knows how to steal ‘em…
Ah…Love winning the series against them Fillies! Uggla had a great game—that’s very good to see. Stinky day of tomorrow, but then none for a long time (who gives only 2 friggin’ days off in August to a Southern team? Schedule must be made by a Northerner… )
Anyone hear the O’Malley family is interested in buying the Padres? With the Dodgers spending like they have Billions, they could really have a rivalry with the O’Malley Padres who do have a Billion.
Hudson proves again the braves don’t have a #1 starter in their rotation. This is the second time this season he has blown a lead of 4 or more runs. Hanson has done the same thing this season. So if braves somehow get into the playoffs with one of the wildcard spots, who do they start in the one game playoff? It’s hard to win in the playoffs without one dominant starter, and unfortunately Hudson and Hanson are nowhere close to being dominant.
And I am just naturally a cheap sumbeach! I usually try to sit somewhere along the rail in the second deck down one of the foul lines, but in SF, my seats are $50 each and STILL in the nose bleed seats!
Mike in FL – Damn, they must of had the money in their checking account. I just heard it late this afternoon and they get approval from the other owners and work out price and payment.
It takes my bank 4 days to pay a check. We must be in slightly different financial circles.
I bet Crawford hasn’t hit leadoff a dozen times in the last three years. And again, wouldn’t he be another reason NOT to give huge money to a late-20’s OF who’s game relies so much on speed?
bourn is a hr hitter now not a base stealer didnt you know?
I know his OPS is around .770, which is not worth $20 million.
So, if the Braves lose all the games to the good teams and win all the games against the bad teams, then they will go 35-16 over the final games with a final record of 99-63.
If the Braves break even against the good teams (8-8) and play .667 ball against the bad teams (23-12), they’ll end with 95-67 record.
Barring a rash of injuries, I think it’s reasonable to think the Braves win more than 90 games this year.
“Caseyatthebat, August 8th, 2012, 10:20 pm … “Does anyone know what kind of money it will take to keep Bourne [sic]?”
It will end up costing more money and years than Bourn will be worth. The Braves will have the cash to re-sign him, but will choose to allocate resources in a way that yields a better cost/benefit ratio.
If the dufus who drove in run #3 for the disAstros had been running, instead of watching to see if his ball would be caught, disAstros would have tied it.
We oughtta go after the Astro’s Justin Maxwell to play CF for us next year. (I didn’t get any traction with this idea earlier, but thought I’d throw it out to the cocktail crowd, LOL).
the unearned run in the 7th costs the Astros the game (though I’m sure they would have found some other way to lose). Harrell pitches tomorrow but the offense probably won’t back him and the Braves will fall to 4.5 back
David O’Brien @ajcbraves
Ross got the base from Philly groundscrew; it’s going on display “I’m going to have it in my house so everybody knows I at least got one. “
Man oh man tonight was really a huge win for many reason. I have to say it would have been great to win 6-1 and I am sure everyone would have been very happy with that outcome. But in a way the fact that the Phillies score 5 runs in the B5 to tie the game up and then for the Braves to come back in top of 7 and score 4 runs. Make this win even more big most teams would have go and on lose the game after giving up 5 runs to tie the game. And his is Dan Uggla is really start to play much better hopefully he can keep this up. Also Congrats to David Ross on getting his first ever SB. Tonight was a good night because the Cards are about to lose which would put them 4 games out. So Yes it would be great to take over first place in the east and you but in order to do that we got to keep winning series which we did tonight .Now Looking at the upcoming series with the Mets. The word “rhubarb” just came up in vocabulary with my Korean students – I explained about the vegetable, found pictures, then pointed out the baseball usage – could not remember the origin, so I had to look it up:
Legendary Brooklyn Dodgers broadcaster Red Barber first used rhubarb on-air to describe a baseball altercation in 1943.
He said he heard it from reporter Garry Shumacher, who picked it up from another reporter, Tom Meany, who learned it from an unnamed Brooklyn bartender.
The anonymous bartender used it to describe an incident in his establishment when a Brooklyn fan shot a Giants fan.
And that’s how rhubarb became baseball slang for a fight or argument.
On if thought about grabbing the bag and holding it up:
“I actually thought about it, I really did. But it was still a tight game and I’ve got to keep my professionalism. But I was really excited. I was really happy. I don’t get to run too much. Sometimes in the eighth hole with the pitcher behind you…I hate it when they put the red light on me because I’m really fast.”
On if knew all that easy would have stolen more:
“You know it’s funny, Mac’s got a ton in his career and I’m just jealous. I need to catch him a little bit. He’s got like five or six a year. I have one in my career. I told Mike B when I came in after the game, I’m coming for him.”

Nationals have Dodgers (3), DBacks (3), Giants (3), Braves(6), Cardinals (7) on the tough side.
Their weak games …
Phillies (9)
Marlins (5)
Cubs (4)
Mets(6)
Brewers (4)
disAstros (1)
If the Nats lose all the games against the good teams and win all the games against the poor teams, they would be 97-65.
If they split against the good teams (11-11) and play .667 versus the bad teams (19-10) they would be 98-64.
Nats are going to have to under-perform or Braves are going to have to over-achieve to flip the standings. But, both teams should make the playoffs.
