I just got to the game….can someone tell me what/how/when happened for the Braves to be down by 3? Looked at box score but wondering if there are “details” that could be added
I wouldn’t be too upset with the result of the game tonight thus far if we we’re playing the Phillies of the past few years, but let’s be honest this is their AAA team Lehigh Valley, with the exception of Rollins, Utley, and Howard.
I don’t know PO, I watched him play also and saw a lot of poor throws too so I’m not all that thrilled with thinking of him at third regularly . his rep all along has been a weak arm and I agree it is below average
…….This is still a top notch roster who received a poignant scathing from the Philadelphia fourth estate for their ponderous play last night–this team response doesn’t surprise me {I just sat down to it}….especially with Hamels on the hill. The Phils are capable as you should well know.
What does surprise me is we come out and accept things by forgetting—oh my, see how slow Mac; my God……anyway seems we have forgotten how to get on base thus far–like we’re in a daze–that is surprising because we are currently surging……except for you know who—and I’m not getting into the dynamics of Mr. Uggly tonight.
nolie- I think his arm is adequate for third. I don’t think the Braves brass, during the offseason , would have touted him their shortstop this year if they felt his arm was too weak.
I think most of his bad throws in April and May were just inaccutate or rushed throws.
And Washington comes right back and ties it up at 2-2. Other teams score and Washington comes right back and scores. That’s something that we really struggle with. A 3-0 deficit to Washington is nothing for them.
imo, this game isn’t as frustrating as Saturday’s loss. Losing to Hamels/Ryan Howard isn’t nearly as bad as losing to whoever that was that shutdown the offense and whoever that was who hit those homers against Maholm
Minor really settled down – didn’t have great command tonight, had some defensive help, but settled down and held the Phillies scoreless through the last six innings – good performance, now if Hamels could implode – the Braves might score!
You are right but its almost a pride thing. To hit it off the wall and just get to first he’d catch so much crap from the other guys. Kinda like getting hosed on a line single to right.
And tomorrow, the best offense in baseball will be facing another Cy Young pitcher: Kyle “Piece of Crap” Kendrick. A guy known as someone who shuts down the Braves 9 out of 10 times.
Hate these games….most nights a 3 run pitching performance they talk about quality starts but there is a difference when it’s all 1st inning damage. Our boys sure seem to lock up in these type of ball games.
Hamels is pitching like he’s trying to earn that new contract tonight. As much as I hate to type this, “sometimes you just gotta tip your cap to the other guy”.
Line on Minor: 7 innings, 3 earned runs, seven hits (one homer), two BB, Five Ks. 103 pitches (63 strikes) 5th quality start in past 6 sts…only exception was the rain delay his last time out
didnt we get uggla to balance out the lineup against tough lefties…. i mean are we paying him 13 million/year to only hit(strikeout) against the easy, less talented pitchers
Minor pitched good but I’m disappointed he put them behind the 8 ball so early in the game, especially the Howard at-bat …. he had been hitting horribly against lefties but Minor attacked him with the same pitches one to many times and Howard adjusted and planted the ball in the outfield seats.

Nolie– last year he (Bourjos) flashed some speed and a bit of pop but still had a less than acceptable ability to get on base for a speed guy.
Bourjos OBP last year was .327. Michael Bourn, who will cost considerably more, has a career OBP of .337.
