About the Braves:
Batting: Brian McCann is hitting .310 (9-for-29) against the Phillies this season, including six home runs in seven games, to go along with 16 RBIs. Chipper Jones went 2-for-4 with a double Sunday vs. the Astros to make him 41-for-114 (.360) since June 19, with 14 doubles, five home runs and 23 RBIs in 32 games. Freddie Freeman is 12-for-28 (.429) with two doubles and five RBIs in his past seven games.
Pitching: After giving up only one earned run in 18 innings in his first three starts with the Braves, Sheets gave up four runs (three earned) in a 4-2 loss his last time out against the Marlins. All four of his earned runs allowed have come in the first inning. Sheets limited the Phillies to one earned run in six innings of a 6-1 win at Turner Field on July 27. The Braves bullpen allowed only one earned run in 30 1/3 innings in 10 games on their last homestand.
Miscellaneous: The Braves have won six in a row against the Phillies, including a series sweep July 6-8 at Citizens Bank Park. The Braves finished their recent homestand 8-2, including a three-game sweep of the Phillies July 27-29.
About the Phillies:
Batting: Ryan Howard, who is hitting .203 in 23 games since coming off the DL (Achilles tendon), hit a walk-off RBI single Sunday vs. Arizona. After getting only four hits in their previous 27 at-bats with runners in scoring position, the Phillies went 5-for-11 with RISP in Sunday’s 5-4 win. Jimmy Rollins is 0-for-13 after hitting three home runs in two games Tuesday and Wednesday. The Phillies have hit 23 home runs in 21 games since the All-Star break. Domonic Brown is hitting .278 in six games since his July 31st call-up from Triple-A.
Pitching: Worley won his last start 3-2 against the Nationals after allowing only two unearned runs in seven innings. The Phillies have won three of his past four starts, the only exception being a six-run six-inning outing against the Giants on July 20. He faced the Braves July 8, took a no-decision in a 4-3 loss to Jair Jurrjens after allowing three runs in six innings, including a Dan Uggla home run.
Miscellaneous: Shane Victorino (Dodgers), Hunter Pence (Giants) and Joe Blanton (Dodgers) have been traded since the Braves last saw the Phillies and swept them in a weekend series before the trade deadline. Catcher Carlos Ruiz went on the disabled list Saturday with plantar fasciitis in his left foot. The Phillies are 23-30 at Citizens Bank Park this season but sold out their 257th straight regular season game on Sunday.

You said it Amber Girl! Oh, Amber, I’m so embarrased & I hope you can forgive me, ’cause yesterday I stepped away, & I didn;t get to catch the early post quick enough when you 1st mentioned of whiskey’s passing, when you were upset, & it was bad on my part not to get back w/ you sooner. My time on the computer is limited, I’m not at home, our home computer is down for the time being. But if you’re hurt , angry, or both, I deserve it. I read the posts later, & saw jharbor try’n to let me know whiskey passed. I feel like a moron Amber, sorry, (I know can’t be adequate)

Where are all the braves fans at their games. They are not showing up as empty seats. Atl as a sports city sucks. I am sure you will give us the weather and traffic and the economy as excuses. Meanwhile the phillies get out of the basement and I am sure they will cause the Braves some pain as they did the Nats and Dbacks by taking 2 of 3 the last 2 series. Please continue to think the phillies are done for the year and they may be the reason you do not make the playoffs. But no one will show up anyway in ATL.

Overconfidence can be a team’s downfall. Here’s to hoping the Braves feel the same as some of their fans.

Phillies coming off back to back inspired series after getting swept by the Braves. Took 2-3 from the Nats and DBacks. I’m not expecting to see the same punchless offence we saw two weekends ago (or the same Hamels) so I hope the pitching and bats are up to the task. With the Nats playing 4 against the Astros, and an almost guaranteed half game in the standings on Thursday for them, the Braves will need a good showing.

Hope the Bravos bats show up. Check the last 6 games (those against inferior pitching) and even though they are scoring 5-6 runs they are NOT hitting the ball. Nine hits or less, usually 6 hits to score 5 runs. Bourn needs some off time. He has played almost every inning of every game but 2.

@southgabrave I agree. As long as we win who cares? Tonite-Heyward goes Mambo and Francisco goes Yikkety. Braves win.

If you take out the head to head games, since the All-Star break, the Phillies are 12-7 and the Braves are 13-7.
DB didn’t mention that Utley is hitting .333 with 3 HR in his last 10 games.
Could be interesting….

Jack, for update on Simmons, here’s what Chris Vivlamore wrote the other day:

Kat, it’s not a bad place to cover a game, but i haven’t had to deal with the masses. Don’t like the way Citizens Bank Park plays though!
