Of course, it would be morally wrong to quit on the 501st post on the blog. Which makes you think about how the Braves playing so well is destroying blog hits for DOB without the countless posts by those who revel in the Braves’ miseries when those occur…we’d probably be at 250 tonight if it wasn’t for Uggla-related posts…(not saying those are unwarranted, btw)…

Loves me some Chipper! He truly has an amazing eye and patience! His positive attitude and actions greatly uplift his team mates, and opponents seem pretty impressed by him too. Glad I got to see this future Hall-of-Famer play – especially since he still does give it his all! Kudos Chipper!

If Chipper does indeed retire after this season, no one should worry, He should be a definite first ballot Hall of Famer in 2018, and as a Atlanta Brave his entire career!!! I know myself and the rest of you would love to see him come back next season and go for some more records & milestones… such as (500 HR’s & 3,000 Hits), 1,700 RBI’s, another Silver Slugger, and a 1st Gold Glove in which he has deserved for at least 3 of his seasons, he was robbed and it ticks me off… but that’s another story! Have fun with your retirement and all of the hunting CJ10…!

Hello everyone! Do I have a curosity on Mars? No, just the science quacks……Braves will still have to hit better against the Phillies, and the Phillies wont lay down, so it should be an interesting series. Braves can’t go hit like they did playing the Astros against the Phillies, or they will get spanked. I hope for a good series? and Peace my friends, and “Go!!!!!Braves!!!!!”

Strasburg at 127.1 innings. Speculation, they’ll shut him down at 160. Look for a tweaked toe, finger, hamstring, etc., on his 8/28 @Miami start. Possibly, another away game. Mets 9/12? He’s been averaging 6 innings a start…That’d get through all the ATL. series.

In a tight race with the Braves, do the Nats shut down their ace, knowing that they could compromise their lead? Or do the Nats let Strasburg pitch, knowing that they could put too much strain on his arm? Maybe the Nats just strictly limit Strasburg’s pitch count?

The Braves pitching staff is doing work. They have now allowed 3 or fewer earned runs in 13 consecutive games. That’s tied for the franchise’s fifth-longest streak of allowing 3 ER or less in the live ball era:

16 games: 8/28/93 – 9/14/93
15 games: 9/19/92 – 10/3/92
15 games: 4/27/54 – 5/14/54
14 games: 5/9/43 – 5/28/43
13 games: 7/23/12 – 8/5/12
13 games: 9/19/45 – 4/21/46
13 games: 8/6/40 – 8/16/40

Who would have thought this pitching staff would have done that?

Attended my first minor league baseball game Thursday in Montgomery.

Zeke Spruill was not too sharp and he got shelled. 86-87 on the fastball. A couple of untimely walks and a couple of bombs…one was a Grand Slam off the bat of Mikie Mahtook. Everything Montgomery hit was hit hard. It was not pretty.

Got to see Joey T hit a moon shot, though, and Evan Gattis looked comfortable in left field…not like I would have imagined a converted catcher would.

(nolie will love this): George Will wrote what could be an historic article a few days ago, not on baseball, but on the future of Football in the United States. Football is currently at the highest point in popularity that it will ever be and will soon start to slowly erode as a watchable and playable sport. The reason is the expanding knowledge that repeated hits to the head causes permanent brain damage and many other bad things that are killing and ruining the lives of more and more people that played the sport. I won’t go into all the detail, but this is something we will be hearing more and more about as the NFL’s retired veterans will sue the league for many wrongs, and as parents learn of the dangers of the constant hitting each other that the players endure, they will not let their kids even play in kiddie leagues and that feeling will slowly spread. It won’t happen overnight or maybe in the foreseeable future, but football as we know is going away unless major changes are instituted including ones that will change the very fabric of the game. It’s a very sad story due to the way former players are treated or not treated for their many problems.
