Offense is to blame tonight, but I am having trouble getting over Maholm’s glaring mistakes to Justin Maxwell. He hit some bombs to left field and accounted for all three of the Astros’ runs.
Note to Maholm: Paul, normally giving up only 3 runs is considered a good start in MLB. But when you pitch for the Braves expect little run support. You see the Braves offense is puny. In fact the Braves offense has the unique ability to make the pitchers of the worse MLB teams all look like Sandy Koufax. So my advice to you is to not give up more than 1 run per game.
Embarrassing….losing to the worst team in baseball. The announcers even made fun of them. Well…who’s laughing now. Just plain awful effort against an awful team that has won 1 game vs a team with a winning record in a month.
To top it off Washington just tied their game. So we will lose a game in the standings because of this. I am pissed off! Terrible!!
Johnson against RHP this year: .289 BA, .354 OBP. Who cares if it’s all singles? Get on base and get the runner into scoring position. Last year: .312 BA, .361 OBP. Career: .267, .325. All of that is still better than Francisco.
Hello everyone! The good thing is Maholm pitched great, and bad thing is Braves bats went cold against a crappy pitcher. No hat tipping tonight, because the bats are to blame, but all in all not too bad. At least it was close. Get ready for Bitchell ……..All, I’ll talk later, and Peace my freinds, and Go!!!!!Braves!!!!!”
When is the last time the Braves had a walk off home run? Don’t know why but I had a feeling this game was cooked after that guy I have never heard of hit his 2nd home run. I saw on sportscenter that the A’s have had like 13 walk offs. Talk about exciting.
Well, that game really sucked. So much a good first impression. Really disappointing that our offense could not muster more than 2 runs from Dan Uggla.
All of Francisco’s offense comes against RHP. But yeah, Johnson’s splits against RHP are a little better. Still, Francisco was the right choice there, to some extent.
Everybody with a TV saw that LaRoche never touched home ( with 5th run) but nobody on the Marlins saw it. All they had to do was appeal and they’re out of the inning. Every MLB team should have someone watching a monitor for a case like this.
The starter tonight, Harrell had a 3.03 ERA since July 1 IIRC…. was expecting a good performance from him, so not too surprised that we “only” got 2 runs.
Yes, I checked, and I’ll take an .850 OPS vs a .700 one any time. You really don’t see an advantage to having a slugger up with a runner on, down by a run? Where a double, triple or homer ties (or wins) the game?
Whine away, guys. Fredi didn’t lose this. Good Houston pitching did. Come to grips with it.. or don’t. Whatever.
Thanks, nolie. My faith is restored. Now, how in the world can we ever win tomorrow? After all, the sky is falling, not to mention the hits from those mighty Astros bats…

The problem is not really about having more heart or a little less. Is just that the Braves, against this kind of teams, appear as heartless as one can be.

September is gonna be ugly with this sad-sack lineup. Tonight was unforgiveable.
I’ve been uneasy all day, because both the radio and tv guys have been hammering home just how bad the ’stros are. I know the players aren’t hearing it in the clubhouse, but I still hate poking fun at ‘em (guess it has something to do with bad karma)…
Maholm on the two pitches over the middle to Maxwell: “Yeah, obviously the two home runs were probably the only two mistakes I really made. The first one, a fastball ran back over [the plate], and the second one was a hanging curveball. And he did a good job of obviously hitting them a long way.”
I really don’t see us getting ahead of the Nats. Look how great we’ve been playing and still 3 games back… We come out with a piss poor effort of 4 hits vs the Astros and lose, while the Nats come from behind in a exciting victory to gain a game.
Moholm pitched well in his debut, 7 innings only allowing 3 runs should be good enough to beat the Astros any night.
CTB – and I apologized for thinking you were serious even when you pretended you were not – are you serious with the nonsensical comments about effort, and your homophobic comment about Miami?
Uggla on whether he feels like he’s making any progress, at least has driven in some runs in past week:
“Yeah. All I can do is keep going up there and battling, keep fighting, keep grinding. Because once it clicks… I’ve been feeling good, feeling a lot better the last week, two weeks. It’s still not quite right yet, but when I get hot I can get as hot as anybody. So it’s a click away. All I can do is keep grinding.”
Lighten up people, look on the bright side you could be a Red Sox fan 180M payroll and they blow another 9th inning lead to the only team lowlier than the Astros ,the Twins. Sox and their 180m payroll 2 games under .500 and in last place.
Apparently somebody posted DOBs article about how bad they are in the Astros locker room. When I was reading it earlier I was thinking “wow what have they done to the “StatMan”! He flat lowered the boom on them! But, I must admit they put it to good use.
I’ll be happy with a win of the series. I’d love it if we would sweep them all but lets be real … if we win many more series than we don’t then we will take care of business.

What, are the Astros not allowed to win once in a while?
Yeah, but in their own division only.
Ha!

“LOL… I try to be calm (at least on here)…. I vent to my walls/TV, then calm down and think rationally for the blog”
Works for me too!

MiaBchBraves, I’m not. Just unfunny humor, something like that.
VJ, appology accepted. Just being frivolous about the game.
