and what we really need is an Ace.
So, who were you hoping for?
August 4th, 20128:53 pm
those 3 runs = his run total in his last 3 starts (22 and 2/3) vs Fish/Pirates/Cardinals
That is really frustrating to tie the game and hold for exactly one pitch.
The A Bomb
The ONLY concern I have about Maholm is that he’s been on nothing but second-division teams for the duration…..He’ll be facing REAL pressure for the first time.
Braves didnt read scouting report, there is only one Astro who can go yard and he did yard work twice tonight
Kris, you’re right….maholm ain’t Carlton.
He’ll do hopefully though.
August 4th, 20128:54 pm
Maxwell is the next Giancarlo Stanton
Maxwell indeed waited on ‘that pitch,’ he is Smart.
well we all knew that he was not gonna keep pitching one run outings….
Pressure?? he pitched for a team that scored 2 runs a game for him…. every pitch was a pressure pitch
Very good Capt. Mudd
August 4th, 20128:55 pm
What ace were we gonna get?
Time to tie the game again. In the large scheme of things, Maholm did pitch quite well. He just made two awful mistakes.
At least LaRoche can’t tie the game leading off the next inning…
Uggla’s gonna kill us.
Uggla is hopeless
Uggla … we’re done.
well at least we are getting into their pen
August 4th, 20128:56 pm
And LaRoche homers…
This bum is 1-8 with a 6.05.
Kris- I didn’t like giving up a power arm even though injured. In a perfect world without corporate media ownership we could’ve used Viz for Josh Johnson.
Me and my big fat mouth…
IAM GETTING MORE AND MORE FED UP OF ADAM LAROCHE
7IP – 3R, I’ll take that just about every start from all five starters. Especially with the offense the Braves have this year.
It’s water under the bridge at this point, but it bugs me to hear fans talk about Maholm as if he is going to be a real difference maker.
kris — I think that most of know that he is a journeyman average pitcher but what we liked about it is that they did not give up Delgado, Minor or Teheran.
Now, maybe Vizcaino does come back and be a keeper, but that TJ is still a serious injury to come back from though it is often done.
Comming back from TJ is noting to take for granted. In the minds of many we did not give up alot.
Not to mention that we do have PM for one more yr.
We were not going to retain either Dempster or Grienke, they would be rentals.
Overall not a bad game for Malolm, but those 2 HRS killed him.
August 4th, 20128:57 pm
if he pitches a quality start most every outing we will do ok
He went 7 innings, gave up 3 runs, and leaves still giving us a chance to win. Not great but better than some pick-ups the Braves have made in the past.
August 4th, 20128:58 pm
ya know, I just had a feeling all day that things would be worse than we expected tonight….
Hinske will hit a ton of homers in Japan next season.
This bum is 1-8 with a 6.05.
Actually, for the Braves, that’s the same as he being a Cy Young caliber pitcher.
@Pace…..thanks, but I’m just tryin’ to “keep pace!”
August 4th, 20128:59 pm
Venice Jim – I was hoping we could get Grienke or Josh Johnson, but truth be told I would have been very happy if we had just gone with Medlen as a starter and picked up a solid middle reliever.
I think worst case scenario Medlen is equal to Maholm, but he represents a whole lot more upside. Maholm is 30 with an 88 MPH fastball…I think its fairly safe to say that he is what he isn’t this point in his career.
Bourn needs some more rest
If our guys did better with men on base Maholm would be leaving with a lead.
We did get 7 out of him, not bad at all. Too many LOB.
This is reason why you don’t give Bourn a 14 Mil a year contract. Not much he can do
August 4th, 20129:00 pm
he is what he isn’t?
Maholm in ATL debut: 7 IP, 6 H, 3R, 2 BB, 8 K, threw 57 strikes in 84 pitches
9 Baserunners tonite – 2 runs. Bats are the problem tonite – not pitching.
August 4th, 20129:01 pm
Bourn deserves to be Booed. The BUMB needs to step it up and get going again.
No 15 plus million for you now Mike.
August 4th, 20129:02 pm
I agree….LOB is gonna kill us
I’m sorry guys, but this one is destined for the L column
Cue the Spanish cussing.
This time we did not even have a chance 1-2-3 inning.
And a guy with a 1-8 record and a 6+ ERA dominates us in the 7th inning….
so unless i’m missing someone, no starter traded before the deadline will win his debut
Release Maholm and prado.
August 4th, 20129:03 pm
Kris – but getting Greinke for 2 months for 3 prospects? (and I will not mention how many runs he gave up yesterday)…
This would be a BAD loss
August 4th, 20129:04 pm
Bourn is overated. What he is is a singles hitter. Uggla is more important than Bourn for the same dollar because Uggla’s hits make impact in a game. He has the presence of hitting a homerun but with Bourn all you are hoping for is a pathetic single and if there are 2 outs in the inning then there is no point in watching Bourn as he doesn’t have the impact bat to do anything but hit singles
Nobody should ever pop up a 3-1 pitch in foul territory.
August 4th, 20129:05 pm
I’m an oldie (still mad about the Bret Butler trade) so I learned patience a while back. That being said, giving up ever other pitch then jumping back on the wagon is giving me whip-lash
August 4th, 20129:06 pm
I see the criticism of Bourn. He has value, but he would bring more to the Braves if he made fewer outs. He could really stand to be more patient and take more walks. That and he strikes out entirely too much. Those are my only criticisms of Bourn.
much of it is facetious lance, some are serious that way others mock them
If the score holds, the Astros will get their third win since July 1st.
THIRD win since July 1st.
THIRD win in more than a month.
I’m about to freakout here!!!
August 4th, 20129:07 pm
Veer, what if I told you Bourn has more extra-base hits than Uggla this year?
Lance – that’s what makes this blog so much fun – whiplash – and at least 75 budding GM’s
August 4th, 20129:08 pm
The big bats are due up next inning….might end up a walkoff in the bottom of the 9th,but we are not losing tonight.
hey they gotta beat somebody sometimes
I don’t think we should keep Bourn at the money is is going to want. We are going ot need to get someone with his kind of speed, though.
August 4th, 20129:09 pm
The Astros’ bullpen is solid but hittable. No lights-out guys down there. The Braves can still come back if Cory holds ‘em here.
“This would be a BAD loss”
beat Hamels, Blanton, Halladay, Buehrle, Nolasco. Lose to Lucas Harrell and an Astros team that has won but 3 games since June 28. Yeah, it wouldn’t be something to feel good about that’s for sure. Well, they got 6 outs to try and make sure that doesn’t happen.
Is what he isn’t…..exactly! Lol
Yea 7 innings 3 runs against the worst team in baseball is a decent outing – I’m not saying he sucks or is a terrible pitcher. The point is, why trade for something we already have plenty of in house? In a best of 5 divisional series who are your top 3? Today I would say Hudson….then does it even matter? You have arguably 4 starters who are completely average and another one (sheets) that is no guarantee to even be around.
Before everyone jumps down my throat, just realize that all I’m trying to say is that Maholm doesn’t do anything for our team. Everyone is praising Wren like he pulled off some major deal, when all he really did was further solidify our pitching mediocrity.
Gwinnett Gearrin in tonight. Short leash.
August 4th, 20129:10 pm
Jaded, I will take Uggla over Bourn in RBI situations and Homerun situations.
more interested in OBP than speed
August 4th, 20129:11 pm
Get him outta here.
Darn–he just bought Marwin Gardens too
August 4th, 20129:12 pm
Gearrin’s in and we’re only down 1? Get DURBIN, VENTERS in please…
True dat on the OBP…..how about both
looks like a blowout coming up. thats ok, let them get it out of their systems b4 tomorrows game
Sorry for repeating, but…
THIRD win since July 1st!!
And only their 11th win on the road!!!
They have 10 road Wins!!!
I’ve had about enough of gearrin and his goofy grin.
It’s the stros! Make some pitches!!
Gearrin’s sinker can’t fail him now.
Gearrin is probably a bit fatigued.
Where is Venters??????????
BAD managing by FG…
August 4th, 20129:13 pm
thats the problem with roogys like Gearrin and Moylan
Venters hasn’t even warmed up the past few games that I’ve noticed – is he just not available?
What’s with pitching the back end of the ‘pen chasing 1?
Never mind — it’s Gonzalez.
August 4th, 20129:14 pm
August 4th, 20129:15 pm
Venters is either still hurt or in Fredi’s doghouse. Avilan seems to be the second lefty behind EOF right now.
Avilan coming in? I don’t understand it, but Fredi must have more confidence in him than EOF or Venters?
Luis Avilan coming in.
Blowout in 3… 2… 0… 1…
August 4th, 20129:16 pm
Avilan over Venters?? Is Venters hurt??
August 4th, 20129:17 pm
I have been wondering about Venters, too
Good call, JC…
Exhale big…that was too close
aqlright, here we come!!!!
August 4th, 20129:18 pm
safe to say if they get to that point, the Braves hitters should (should ….) have an advantage over a Houston closer who will probably be a bit rusty in that department
Safety squeeze score Reyes – 6-4…
August 4th, 20129:19 pm
Here’s hoping they do…
To be precise, a safety squeeze bunt and run for the Marlins…
August 4th, 20129:20 pm
Solano squeezes home Reyes….
MIAMI 6 WASHINGTON 4 TOP 7
