The A Bomb
August 3rd, 201210:48 pm
Wait, when are the Olympics?
I am unsure what kind of future Schafer has anyway. He is capable of taking he walks, but his swing is way too long and he strikes out all the time.
August 3rd, 201210:49 pm
Mark – with you again…
Olympics bore me to tears normally.
August 3rd, 201210:50 pm
I think I heard Billy W was coaching 13 – 15 year olds. Maybe his own kids were on the team.
I could see Billy W being a great HS baseball coach if he wants it. He might stay home till his ids are grown. And that is a good thing.
There is too much knowledge and leadership for it not to be shared.
Is that 9 of 10 we’ve won?
Good night to those who remain…
August 3rd, 201210:51 pm
just switch around till you find the shot putter phil, and pick on him about how fat he is, you’ll have fun
August 3rd, 201210:52 pm
I am unsure what kind of future Schafer has anyway. He is capable of taking he walks, but his swing is way too long and he strikes out all the time.
@Tomahawk — Correct, Schafer never seemed like a kid mature enough to be disciplined both on and off the field. He wants to be a 25 HR guy but does not have the ability to hit for big power.
Glad he is not a Brave. Not our problem anymore.
August 3rd, 201210:53 pm
Can’t stand those players who wear their hats sideways — Schafer, Fernando Rodney etc…..
Yeah me too really on some of it. We talked the other day about it being better back in the day when thethe US, Soviets and East Germans would go at it. Liked it better too when the college guys played.
August 3rd, 201210:55 pm
all those Soviet women F&Ters who had to shave their faces too………..
August 3rd, 201210:56 pm
Well unfortunately, based on some of his off the field decisions, maturity hasn’t been one of his greatest traits. Sure it probably carries over to his playing too
August 3rd, 201210:57 pm
Braves two games back. Striking distance.
‘Course Nats have six straight against the Fish and Stros. So Braves may not pick up much ground for awhile.
Mark Bowman @mlbbowman
Encouraging outing for @PeterMoylan w/ Gwinnett tonight: 3 hits (2 infield singles) and 1 run in 1 IP for Gwinnett. Fastball 90-92 mph
August 3rd, 201210:58 pm
Man, I am craving me some pizza. Been a while. Steve’s, here I come!
August 3rd, 201210:59 pm
Love watching the swimming and beach volleyball
Venice Jim: GREAT NEWS!!! 90-92!?!?!? WOW!!!
doesn’t sound all THAT encouraging to me
They sure did Nolie. I don’t remember none of them looking like their tennis players do now days!
Anybody remember Letterman doing the Wimbledon Play of the Day back a few years and it’d be Kournakova just walking out there on the court or bending over to get a ball…
August 3rd, 201211:02 pm
Prado looked better tonight after some rest. Guy plays so hard and is so hard on himself he gets rundown I think
August 3rd, 201211:03 pm
Usually when it’s a shoulder, you say it’s over. I am really happy for Moylan. Literally, what a shot in the arm for this ball club for September if he can make it all the way back.
It’s been almost a decade since a lot of good things have happened for this ballclub in August. Getting Simmons, Hanson, and Moylan back healthy and productive will be HUGE!!!
August 3rd, 201211:06 pm
just not all that big a moylan fan, too spotty against lefties to get my all that excited
Brave New World
August 3rd, 201211:08 pm
Only 2 back. Still a lot of baseball to go, but the Braves are in a great position. GO BRAVES!
I’m with you on 2 of the 3. Sorry, but I don’t think we’ll ever see the Hanson of pre-shoulder problems last year. Funky motion done caught up with him.
August 3rd, 201211:10 pm
Now, if JJ could just get with the program for this season, for crissakes!!!
I do NOT want to see this loser on the roster in 2013. Those of you touting that Tigers trade a couple of years ago need to rethink that pose. The Braves did NOT make out significantly better, and thanks to JJ’s woosie-ness, we had to trade a valued young arm to replace his sorry self.
He’s a punk. Don’t wanna see him in our uni next year. Period.
August 3rd, 201211:12 pm
Hanson has still been pretty effective in most games til this came up the last few, but prooly never what we once hoped for. but that ain’t uncommon at all in baseball
nolie: he’s a bullpen arm that we did not have to trade for. If he is even within the ballpark of effective in September, every inning that he can pitch will be precious to us.
Damn, and I’m the one whose glass is always half empty!?
August 3rd, 201211:13 pm
We did get a few yrs out of JJ, but his usefulness is over for this team.
We gave up an aging Edgar Renteria for him, a salary they wanted to move anyway, so for the time they got usefulness our of JJ from 08 to 11, Braves did not do bad.
I don’t know if he can do it anymore. Too bad for JJ, he flamed out young.
of course we made out well, and we gave up nothing. the fact that he struggles now does not diminish what he did B4.
Oh lighten up MiaBch. Jurrjens a good kid and a good pitcher who’s suffering a (probably chronic) injury. Gave us 50 wins for about $9 mil. Compare that to Greinke or Halladay and the numbers work out pretty good.
August 3rd, 201211:15 pm
Hanson is a decent pitcher from April until mid July, but he breaks down after the All-Star game.
Can this trend be reversed????? If so he is a solid mid rotation pitcher who can win you 15, 16 games and pitch 200 IP, and that is good.
Braves-’stros comming up on sportscenter.
August 3rd, 201211:16 pm
just don’t trust roogys, nothing negative about it, they are usually more heartache than anything else.
it is always such a temptation to leave them in to skip over that one lefty to the next righty hitter and kablooee
August 3rd, 201211:18 pm
nolie, I’m with you on Moylan. Walk rate was rising year after year too… but who knows, maybe the rehab will be a fresh start and he’ll revert to his old (2007) self.
Hmm — that is good value Mike in FL — Great value for what pitchers are getting paid this day in time.
I have a gut hunch that when Grienke gets signed that the team that wins that prize will regret it.
He has had one great yr in MLB, in 09,. An off yr in 10, good yrs in 08 and 11 and was having one good first half.
I am not sold on him, and Braves were smart not to give the farm up for him. We would not afford him anyway.
Looking forward to seeing what Malhlm does down the stretch run.
y’all take care guys
August 3rd, 201211:20 pm
Just saw Uggla’s “double”. While I wish that could be a slump-buster, I just don’t feel that optimistic. He is totally lost in the ozone.
Paul Janish was an EXCELLENT pickup. That was a nifty pick he made in the highlight!
August 3rd, 201211:21 pm
I wouldn’t invest my $125 mil in him, Disgusted. Not sure what I’m gonna do with that money instead, though.
August 3rd, 201211:22 pm
“‘Course Nats have six straight against the Fish and Stros. So Braves may not pick up much ground for awhile”
Maybe so, but as long as the Braves play their game who cares, as long as we play great all that is all we can ask for. This season has gone so much better than I expected, its been a pleasant surprise.
I was not sure this team would hold .500, and am proudly wrong. Predicted between 79 and 82 W. That was off base for sure.
I’ll say it again
Every year there are severalTtalked Up Over-Rated Deadline Guys and this year was the biggest crop of those I remember.
I will say this though about Grienke. You seen his wife? She was more worth Delgado than he was.
August 3rd, 201211:24 pm
Pizza Time!!! G’night folks!!!
August 3rd, 201211:25 pm
Well, $125 mil in the bank is better than a shaky investment anyday.
I don’t think he will get that — I see him more in the 5 yr low 100 mmm range. That is still not a fit for us.
He is good, has great stuff but is not that great. He is not as good as CC or even Hammels in my book. He’s a notch below those guys. Not a big notch below but enough to where 5 yrs at 125 is fool.
August 3rd, 201211:26 pm
Disgusted: me too. I saw this team as 5-10 games under .500. September looms and the bats have to have their big-boy pants on if they are to overtake the gNats and make a deep run.
August 3rd, 201211:28 pm
Hey, I would not give 5 yrs and 100 plus mil for Hamilton. And that would be on an unlimited payroll of I play fantasy GM.
Its getting overblown, not every All-Star should get 20 plus mil — getting out of hand.
I don’t see any Willie Mays or Mike Schmidt available.
August 3rd, 201211:31 pm
MiaBach — I think its safe to assume that this team will be a hundred percent healthier than last Sept’s team.
And some of these guys have gotten better — Heyward is one guy who took last yrs experience and took it by the horns and improved. Freddie Freeman is getting better.
We are seeing signs of the good Johnny Venters again. Lots of good karma around here.
And how FF comes up with a WAR of less than 2.0 gives less credibilty of that theoretical hyperboble. We KNOW that Freddie Freeman is a regular starting every day 1B who is getting better, & he is young.
August 3rd, 201211:37 pm
Hinske got a hit!! Let’s all celebrate. Might not happen again real soon.
Coach (2012 Fredi's Beisbol Fandango)
Seven innings from Huddy tonight. Just what the doctor ordered as our bullpen is getting taxed. This is my favorite part of the season, the stretch run. Where the numbers favor those who are winning and wok against losing teams.
August 3rd, 201211:38 pm
Amen to all your points. If Simmons, Hanson, and Moylan can come back from their injuries and contribute and JJ can pull the string out and be a plus-contributor for this ballclub, I would be totally stoked!
I think this ballclub deserves as much. Ask me after tomorrow’s game and I will definitely tell you how this team’s mojo is going.
August 3rd, 201211:40 pm
Coach: and that’s where Fredi has to get strong. He needs to allow starters to go at least seven, as opposed to the 5-6 crap he did last year that destroyed the bullpen. That is why IMO Moylan’s comeback is so key; any innings he can pitch in relief in September will be an absolute blessing for this ballclub.
And I mean A-NY-THING!!!
August 3rd, 201211:43 pm
Moylan has been sort of a forgotten man but when he is right he is a big assett.
I am just really hoping that Hanson’s back strain is minor. Hey, let the Hanson nay sayers say what they want, we need him. Even if he is not the proverbial ACE, so what he is not Randy Johnson or Tom Seaver, we need him.
And we need him beyond this yr.
The winning streak is wreaking havoc with blog numbers…
August 3rd, 201211:46 pm
@Monty — Hey, I am glad Hinke has gotten a couple hits as of late, I said it all along that we are going to need his experience and power at some point.
Eric has had a disappointing yr this time but he has helped us in the past and yes, I shall give the old “We Need Him.” He is major league and a veteran who is battle and playoff tested.
He is going to help win a couple of big games down the stretch. A vet I like on my team this time of yr.
August 3rd, 201211:49 pm
Angels lose in 10, despite the stellar Greinke effort…
August 3rd, 201211:50 pm
anybody else think this could turn in to something real good? Team looks solid and that collapse had to wake some guys up. Something is there and I like seeing it.
August 3rd, 201211:54 pm
Venice, and that’s sad. Just shows how unhappy lots of people are. If you’re unhappy, you like to talk about negative things. Braves losing is negative. Sounds stupid, but it to me is a sign of people’s character even through a blog.
August 4th, 201212:06 am
We have a little swagger right now but we have played lately a bad Phillies team about to trade off guys, a sorry Marlins and Astros team that hardly has a recognizable player.
I’m with you now. I want the Braves to do something special but we have big questions that have to be answered. Uggla is going to have to hit better, Simmons, after he gets going again, is going to have to come back the way he was prior to his injury and the other guys are going to have to be consistent the rest of the way,
Then the starting pitching is going to have to perform and really we have only 1 guy you can bet on. Sheets-I love the guy and his performance but its still early for him in my mind but …Minor is throwing better but still not a mainstay…Maholm – haven’t seen enough but I know he is a nibbler and thats scary to me in big games…Hanson is real questionable right now.
Hey, I’m hoping for the best but these are some of my concerns/questions
August 4th, 201212:16 am
I am with you CTB, this has been something real good.
If we just win the WC game and get to the Division series and lose I am cool with that (for the expectations I had).
If we go further well, of course that is great but personally I do not expect that. I do think its been a very good yr and if we are beating the bad teams well, that is what good teams are supposed to do. Lots of good has happened this yr.
We were supposed to be a 4th place team and its not just angry Braves fans who felt that way. So how can I complain.
August 4th, 201212:21 am
CTB – apologize right now, or I will have to expose you…
Tell me on time I have been negative about the Braves losing, unlike…I don’t know…maybe you?
August 4th, 201212:23 am
The unhappiest person on the blog calling me unhappy? What a joke you are…
Mr NEGATIVE himself… I laugh in your general direction…
August 4th, 201212:26 am
Come on – pretend you’re just joking, like you always do when you say something ludicrous…
August 4th, 201212:27 am
August 3rd, 2012
If our chubby assed catcher would hit a baseball like he hits the Pizza Hut and KFC’s, we’d be a much better team!
August 4th, 201212:28 am
Oh, yes, that was positive…
August 4th, 201212:29 am
again the damn fireworks make me miss the blog time…
I think CTB was just generalizing about people, not you in particular. Maybe, I’m wrong.
August 4th, 201212:30 am
Wait, here’s a guy who never complains…
August 3rd, 2012
Shouldn’t Hudson be getting these Astros hitters out with like 4 pitches an inning? Man we need a real pitcher …
Bobby H – no, he hates me – not that there’s anything wrong with that…
August 4th, 201212:32 am
Sorry, VJ, I’ll butt out.
August 4th, 201212:35 am
Bobby H- no, it’s okay. It’s just that he seems to like attacking people who tweak negative posters, and has said, that pointing out how stupid the horribly negative people are is worse than being a terribly negative person (albeit not exactly in those words, but that is the gist of his theory)…
August 4th, 201212:36 am
There might be those who theorize that he does this because when he gets frustrated he can be extremely negative, but who am I to theorize in such a manner…
August 4th, 201212:37 am
And the last thing I want to do is make fun of a Braves fan after a good win… unless provoked…
August 4th, 201212:38 am
But, knowing what a big heart he has, he is probably giving me an excuse to pad my stats, for which I offer a big Thank You!!!
August 4th, 201212:39 am
In fact, I am clearly just having fun with my dear friend, as I am sure he was having fun with me…
August 4th, 201212:44 am
After reading a little further back, I think CTB was complaining about the people that are always complaining – not being here when the Braves win.
At least he was resourceful enough to find something to complain about.
Sorry…not really trying to pad…
August 4th, 201212:49 am
Bobby – sorry, I am just used to his chronic complaining about me over the last couple of years for be wing too positive – but, perhaps you are right…
August 4th, 201212:50 am
Pad, man, pad. Didn’t you tell me you have to work some ungodly schedule pretty soon?
And, I do think that he was offended by what I said about Greinke, even though I had forgotten when I posted that how he was banging the drum to give prospects away for a rental…
August 4th, 201212:52 am
Yeah, I was against any rentals.
August 4th, 201212:56 am
I am really sorry for going off there – sometimes it’s good to do it here just to practice typing while being annoyed, and forcing an effort to see how horribly I type when my fingers are hitting the keys more quickly than my gin-soaked brain can determine which keys I should be hitting…
August 4th, 201212:57 am
And, with that…
My annoying stat-padding fingers…
August 4th, 201212:58 am
Will disappear to prepare for my 2 hour workday tomorrow…
(in preparation for my 11 hour workday on Monday)…
August 4th, 201212:59 am
And 21 out of 27 posts is very weak anyway…
But 24 …
August 4th, 20121:00 am
out of 30…
is a good way to quit…
Gee, for a gin-soaked brain, the man types pretty well.
August 4th, 20121:08 am
did DOB finally go all cameon crowe and check out to go on the road with the replacements?
August 4th, 20121:10 am
hard to believe some of you guys dont like the olympics.
August 4th, 20121:22 am
Braves win and i am here. Some people say i am negative but even after a win i am here.
August 4th, 20121:31 am
You’re the man, Veer. This should have you in the running for poster of the week!
August 4th, 20121:33 am
Hello everyone! Win…..Win ……Win…… I love it! Time to call the Australian up. Moylan Ausralian for Beer…….
August 4th, 20121:34 am
Peter Moylan is the Braves call up for August, and Bull – Pen relief.
August 4th, 20121:40 am
nolie – Can I have that Baseball For Dummies book? little humor.
August 4th, 20122:06 am

My book ward, MINIE MINE!!!
I need it too much, getcher own
August 4th, 20122:07 am
