I am unsure what kind of future Schafer has anyway. He is capable of taking he walks, but his swing is way too long and he strikes out all the time.
@Tomahawk — Correct, Schafer never seemed like a kid mature enough to be disciplined both on and off the field. He wants to be a 25 HR guy but does not have the ability to hit for big power.
Yeah me too really on some of it. We talked the other day about it being better back in the day when thethe US, Soviets and East Germans would go at it. Liked it better too when the college guys played.
Well unfortunately, based on some of his off the field decisions, maturity hasn’t been one of his greatest traits. Sure it probably carries over to his playing too

They sure did Nolie. I don’t remember none of them looking like their tennis players do now days!
Anybody remember Letterman doing the Wimbledon Play of the Day back a few years and it’d be Kournakova just walking out there on the court or bending over to get a ball…
Usually when it’s a shoulder, you say it’s over. I am really happy for Moylan. Literally, what a shot in the arm for this ball club for September if he can make it all the way back.
It’s been almost a decade since a lot of good things have happened for this ballclub in August. Getting Simmons, Hanson, and Moylan back healthy and productive will be HUGE!!!
I’m with you on 2 of the 3. Sorry, but I don’t think we’ll ever see the Hanson of pre-shoulder problems last year. Funky motion done caught up with him.
Now, if JJ could just get with the program for this season, for crissakes!!!
I do NOT want to see this loser on the roster in 2013. Those of you touting that Tigers trade a couple of years ago need to rethink that pose. The Braves did NOT make out significantly better, and thanks to JJ’s woosie-ness, we had to trade a valued young arm to replace his sorry self.
He’s a punk. Don’t wanna see him in our uni next year. Period.
Hanson has still been pretty effective in most games til this came up the last few, but prooly never what we once hoped for. but that ain’t uncommon at all in baseball
nolie: he’s a bullpen arm that we did not have to trade for. If he is even within the ballpark of effective in September, every inning that he can pitch will be precious to us.
Damn, and I’m the one whose glass is always half empty!?
We did get a few yrs out of JJ, but his usefulness is over for this team.
We gave up an aging Edgar Renteria for him, a salary they wanted to move anyway, so for the time they got usefulness our of JJ from 08 to 11, Braves did not do bad.
I don’t know if he can do it anymore. Too bad for JJ, he flamed out young.
Oh lighten up MiaBch. Jurrjens a good kid and a good pitcher who’s suffering a (probably chronic) injury. Gave us 50 wins for about $9 mil. Compare that to Greinke or Halladay and the numbers work out pretty good.
just don’t trust roogys, nothing negative about it, they are usually more heartache than anything else.
it is always such a temptation to leave them in to skip over that one lefty to the next righty hitter and kablooee
nolie, I’m with you on Moylan. Walk rate was rising year after year too… but who knows, maybe the rehab will be a fresh start and he’ll revert to his old (2007) self.
“‘Course Nats have six straight against the Fish and Stros. So Braves may not pick up much ground for awhile”
Maybe so, but as long as the Braves play their game who cares, as long as we play great all that is all we can ask for. This season has gone so much better than I expected, its been a pleasant surprise.
I was not sure this team would hold .500, and am proudly wrong. Predicted between 79 and 82 W. That was off base for sure.
Well, $125 mil in the bank is better than a shaky investment anyday.
I don’t think he will get that — I see him more in the 5 yr low 100 mmm range. That is still not a fit for us.
He is good, has great stuff but is not that great. He is not as good as CC or even Hammels in my book. He’s a notch below those guys. Not a big notch below but enough to where 5 yrs at 125 is fool.
Disgusted: me too. I saw this team as 5-10 games under .500. September looms and the bats have to have their big-boy pants on if they are to overtake the gNats and make a deep run.
MiaBach — I think its safe to assume that this team will be a hundred percent healthier than last Sept’s team.
And some of these guys have gotten better — Heyward is one guy who took last yrs experience and took it by the horns and improved. Freddie Freeman is getting better.
We are seeing signs of the good Johnny Venters again. Lots of good karma around here.
And how FF comes up with a WAR of less than 2.0 gives less credibilty of that theoretical hyperboble. We KNOW that Freddie Freeman is a regular starting every day 1B who is getting better, & he is young.
Seven innings from Huddy tonight. Just what the doctor ordered as our bullpen is getting taxed. This is my favorite part of the season, the stretch run. Where the numbers favor those who are winning and wok against losing teams.
Amen to all your points. If Simmons, Hanson, and Moylan can come back from their injuries and contribute and JJ can pull the string out and be a plus-contributor for this ballclub, I would be totally stoked!
I think this ballclub deserves as much. Ask me after tomorrow’s game and I will definitely tell you how this team’s mojo is going.
Coach: and that’s where Fredi has to get strong. He needs to allow starters to go at least seven, as opposed to the 5-6 crap he did last year that destroyed the bullpen. That is why IMO Moylan’s comeback is so key; any innings he can pitch in relief in September will be an absolute blessing for this ballclub.
Moylan has been sort of a forgotten man but when he is right he is a big assett.
I am just really hoping that Hanson’s back strain is minor. Hey, let the Hanson nay sayers say what they want, we need him. Even if he is not the proverbial ACE, so what he is not Randy Johnson or Tom Seaver, we need him.
@Monty — Hey, I am glad Hinke has gotten a couple hits as of late, I said it all along that we are going to need his experience and power at some point.
Eric has had a disappointing yr this time but he has helped us in the past and yes, I shall give the old “We Need Him.” He is major league and a veteran who is battle and playoff tested.
He is going to help win a couple of big games down the stretch. A vet I like on my team this time of yr.
anybody else think this could turn in to something real good? Team looks solid and that collapse had to wake some guys up. Something is there and I like seeing it.
Venice, and that’s sad. Just shows how unhappy lots of people are. If you’re unhappy, you like to talk about negative things. Braves losing is negative. Sounds stupid, but it to me is a sign of people’s character even through a blog.
We have a little swagger right now but we have played lately a bad Phillies team about to trade off guys, a sorry Marlins and Astros team that hardly has a recognizable player.
I’m with you now. I want the Braves to do something special but we have big questions that have to be answered. Uggla is going to have to hit better, Simmons, after he gets going again, is going to have to come back the way he was prior to his injury and the other guys are going to have to be consistent the rest of the way,
Then the starting pitching is going to have to perform and really we have only 1 guy you can bet on. Sheets-I love the guy and his performance but its still early for him in my mind but …Minor is throwing better but still not a mainstay…Maholm – haven’t seen enough but I know he is a nibbler and thats scary to me in big games…Hanson is real questionable right now.
Hey, I’m hoping for the best but these are some of my concerns/questions
I am with you CTB, this has been something real good.
If we just win the WC game and get to the Division series and lose I am cool with that (for the expectations I had).
If we go further well, of course that is great but personally I do not expect that. I do think its been a very good yr and if we are beating the bad teams well, that is what good teams are supposed to do. Lots of good has happened this yr.

And, I do think that he was offended by what I said about Greinke, even though I had forgotten when I posted that how he was banging the drum to give prospects away for a rental…
I am really sorry for going off there – sometimes it’s good to do it here just to practice typing while being annoyed, and forcing an effort to see how horribly I type when my fingers are hitting the keys more quickly than my gin-soaked brain can determine which keys I should be hitting…

I think I heard Billy W was coaching 13 – 15 year olds. Maybe his own kids were on the team.
I could see Billy W being a great HS baseball coach if he wants it. He might stay home till his ids are grown. And that is a good thing.
There is too much knowledge and leadership for it not to be shared.
