Carroll,

You mentioned “Happy” as a good name. That’s what we named a black lab mix dog we found running in the middle of our street. We called him that cause he remained happy and sweet even though he was riddled with fleas.

Happy would also be my affect as a Braves fan right now. :)

Go BRAVES!

Nothing worse, I think, than doing play-by-play and color for a sad-sack group of losers. I am watching the game down here on the Marlins’ Fox feed. I am bored to tears with their senseless yammering, but the MLB radio does not synch with the game action, so…

The Marlins must be less than thrilled with Eovaldi (the pitcher they gave up Hanley Ramierez for) tonight. Of course the Marlins are paying Eovaldi $15M a year less than Hanley, so it doesn’t hurt that bad.

Now the comedy part. During the rain delay, they show “Inside the Marlins: Marlins Park”, with many interviews of players that have since been traded. I think I will do a drinking game. Every time I see a Marlins player during this show that’s been traded, I will do a shot of Jack…

Re: Nolie

I highly doubt it. They will almost always try to get in a game….even sometimes after 2-hour rain delays…

It would have to be a significant storm or weather pattern that would delay them for a few hours before they usually call it. Haven’t looked at the radar or forecast but..

My wife is distantly related to Nate Eovaldi. Her maternal grandfather is an Eovaldi and verified the connection through some geneology research. He even emailed Nate when he was with the Dodgers. Wife’s family was looking forward to this game. But luckily she is still rooting for the Braves tonight!

brian – mute point and all but if the home team is winning you only need to get through 4 1/2 innings (since the bottom of the inning wouldn’t mean anything). I assume thats why they were trying to get through the 4th (minors fault for that darn walk :) )

Not even 10 minutes. Wow…

Pace

August 2nd, 2012
9:10 pm

Poor Mike Minor – only 55 pitches, ERA stuck at 5.01 till his next start – could’ve gotten another win and pitched well into the late innings.

Break was only a little more than 30 min though right? Why can’t he pitch?

phil

August 2nd, 2012
9:13 pm

You would think a guy like Minor could stay warm under the stadium with 10-15 pitches every 10-15 minutes if a look at a radar showed a delay would be relatively brief….that probably requires too much creative thought for most organizations, however. And i mean a situation like this where a guy is so close to a win. Let him get his 5, yank him….

Oh well. No biggie i guess. Maybe Martinez won’t blow this….

brian

August 2nd, 2012
9:14 pm

I don’t see why they couldn’t have had Minor pitch 10-15 pitches game simulation down below every 15-20 minutes or so to keep him warm so he could go through 5

9:14 pm

Pace

Phil & Brian – that was my point too – I could look at the radar and see the delay would be less than 45 minutes – gonna need those bullpen innings later – could’ve let Minor go again.

Can’t let them have to stay loose in the tunnel.

Gotta give em a days off because they’re tired

Really?????????????

Nah, I really agree with pulling Minor. Not worth risking an injury to return to this game. Plus, they had no way of knowing how long the delay would last so you don’t want one of your starters running his pitch count up in the tunnel.

Just my opinion though.

Now the resting and missing games for position players is over the top in a pennant race.

Again, just my opinion
